When Bai iyue and the rest arrived at the fourth floor, they heard the sound of crying. The three of them turned and saw an old woman along with a few residents crouching in front of an apartnt. The old woman was sobbing quite harshly while the rest of the residents simply comforted her with empty words.
"Madam Ye, think of it like this... At least she went without suffering."
"That's right, even though she is gone— that girl did a good thing. If I had her courage then, I would have done the sa thing. Bah, who wants to live in this rotten world?"
Bai iyue arched a brow and stepped towards the entrance of the apartnt where the people were crowding. As soon as the people saw her coming, they all stiffened and stepped back. One of the courageous n looked at Bai iyue warily and said to her, "We are not doing anything."
"Did I say that you were doing sothing?" Bai iyue asked with a tilt of her head.
The man choked when he heard her words and glared at her but not once did he refute her. Nor did the rest of the n. They didn't dare to do it. With soone like Bai iyue standing in front of them, they would be foolish to counter her words.
Bai iyue ignored the crowd of onlookers and turned to look at the entrance of the apartnt. Though Sunshine Deluxe was relatively expensive, there were a few apartnts that were open for those who could not buy the high-end apartnts.
This apartnt was one of the very few apartnts that didn't have any particular luxurious feeling. It was a simple apartnt with a bedroom and a small kitchen along with the rest of the daily necessities.
But that was not what attracted Bai iyue's attention. She raised her head and looked at the female corpse hanging by the roof. From the broken door, Bai iyue cancelled the idea of homicide completely, which left only one option —this woman had committed suicide.
And when Bai iyue bowed her head and took a peek at the face of the woman, her guess was more or less confird. The face of the woman was rotting; her eyes were popping out of their sockets and her tongue was dangling out of her mouth. Because the woman was not wearing any winter clothes and the heater of her apartnt had long been turned off, the woman's body was now swollen and really white.
"What happened?" she asked the old woman who was crying.
"Ming Ming —she… she was scared because of the sudden change in the world and —and —killed herself," the old woman sobbed. She handed Bai iyue the suicide note that she had taken out from Ye Ming's hand.
Bai iyue took it without saying anything and started reading the suicide letter. It was small and simple. This young woman who was called Ye Ming before her death was only sixteen years old and she couldn't summon the courage to live in this scary world. Thus, she killed herself.
When Bai iyue finished reading the suicide note, she crumpled it up and sighed. This young woman was certainly wrong. Not only did she have a lot of courage but if she had held on, then she could have even killed zombies.
After all, even killing oneself needed a lot of courage.
Bai iyue glanced at the corpse that had turned rotten without anyone caring about it and narrowed her eyes when she saw the maggots wriggling under the skin of the corpse.
She said to the old woman, "Make sure that you burn this corpse. Don't bury it; instead, burn it."
Though the young woman didn't turn into a zombie, the damage she would bring to the world would be just as bad. Bai iyue knew and had seen these maggots in her past life. In her past life, these mutated maggots caused a lot of trouble. The corpses that were infected by them were left unattended and soon there was a sudden explosion in the population of these maggots.
At first no one paid attention to these maggots but soon they realised how wrong they were!
Because these maggots were not just maggots—they were flesh-eating maggots!
However, when the old woman heard Bai iyue's words, she turned furious. This little girl was her granddaughter and she had finally found her after tossing around outside at her old age and yet this woman was telling her that she should burn the corpse of her granddaughter?
Bai iyue more or less understood the anger in the eyes of the old woman. She sighed and simply said, "If you want to live, you better take my advice."
After speaking, she turned around and walked away.
This was the kindness of her heart; if the old woman didn't want to believe her, then there was nothing that she could do. Since that woman was already hostile to her, no matter what she said, nothing would work.
Anyway, she had enough ways to trap these maggots and stop them from causing trouble for her and her family. And if she couldn't deal with them, then she could ask Lei Qian to do it for her.
That man couldn't clean up Bai Xue, but he could at least clean up these maggots. If not, she was going to kick the man out of her life. What was the point of keeping such a useless person by her side?
Behind her, the old woman glared at her hatefully. Though she returned to this apartnt just a few days ago after she lost her son and daughter-in-law in the zombie mob, she had heard a lot about Bai iyue.
Thus, what Bai iyue thought was kindness was nothing but a threat in the eyes of the old woman. She pursed her lips and then said to the people behind her, "Go and bring down the body of my granddaughter; I will bury her in the back of the building."
