“Roar~”
Four or five bone-chilling cries echoed through the air. As the sound rang out, a flock of birds suddenly took off, flapping wildly in the night sky. The temperature in the jungle seed to drop instantly, as danger pressed in from all sides.
“Boars! Those are wild boars. There are several of them!”
The program inspectors, hearing the distant howls, turned pale as sheets. Poisonous insects and snakes surrounded them, and now wild boars were closing in from behind. This felt like a death trap.
Thud! Thud!
The heavy thudding of sothing massive running echoed through the forest. The ground trembled.
“Captain, what do we do?!”
One of the team mbers frantically looked at Wu Mingyu and the others. Wu Mingyu glanced back at the river and around the area. His face darkened considerably.
He was torn. So close to catching Wang Yun, within arm’s reach! But now, out of nowhere, several wild boars had appeared.
After hesitating for three or four seconds, and catching a glimpse of the fast-approaching figures, Wu Mingyu clenched his teeth and made the call, “Retreat! Fall back! Notify the other captains not to co this way, and prepare the drones to spray repellant.”
Wu Mingyu shouted the orders as the entire team began retreating along their original path. There was no ti to pursue Wang Yun anymore—things had beco too dangerous. Their lives were now at risk.
“Ah! My leg is caught! Damn snakes!”
“Get off! I’ll spray them to death!”
“Hurry up, the wild boars are coming! They’re way too fast!”
“Oh my god, what even is this?!”
The team was in total disarray. Even the toughest of them felt a deep sense of dread as they watched the chaos unfold. They had weapons, sure, but no weapon was going to help much against wild beasts. Even with a real gun in hand, hitting sothing as fast as a wild boar was nearly impossible.
In their panic, everyone threw out whatever repellant or powder they had. Anything they could use to fend off the danger. So even ended up accidentally throwing the stuff onto their teammates’ faces and bodies.
The air was now thick with the sll of realgar and insect repellent. It was hard to tell whether the team mbers’ faces were flushed red from panic or because they could barely breathe in the dense cloud of powder.
Several team mbers had their protective suits ripped open, and so were starting to limp, clearly injured. But there was no stopping now. If they stopped, they’d be done for.
All the viewers watching the live broadcast of the show’s observation studio were getting tense. The cara was in total chaos, with screams and frantic shouts filling the air. Amidst the confusion, soone in the chat sent a ssage that instantly heightened the tension in the room.
“Those aren’t wild boars, they’re wild monkeys!”
“Look, they’re wild monkeys!”
As that ssage got spamd over and over, the excitent in the broadcast room soared even higher. anwhile, in the jungle, so of the program inspectors finally saw it too.
“Roar!”
It was like wild beasts falling from the sky. They moved incredibly fast, letting out terrifying cries as they swung through the air. Their eyes glowed red, round and bulging—like two bouncing red lanterns in the dark.
One, two… six of them.
A total of six wild monkeys appeared behind the program inspectors. The tremors the team had felt earlier weren’t from wild boars, but from these monkeys yanking on the tree branches, shaking the trunks and leaves. In the pitch-black forest, the frantic movent had created the illusion that the ground was shaking.
“They’re monkeys! Captain, they’re monkeys!”
“Oh my god, it’s wild monkeys! Run! Their claws and teeth are razor-sharp. They can easily tear a grown man apart!”
The program inspectors started shouting.
Wild monkeys were far more dangerous than wild boars. While boars used their size and strength to ram into things, monkeys attacked from the air with their sharp claws and teeth. And they were fast—much faster than boars. Swinging from tree to tree, their speed and precision made them a formidable threat. Even three adults wouldn’t stand a chance against a single wild monkey.
Their nature? Mischievous, vicious, and deadly.
“Watch above you! Throw the powder upwards! Use your ropes, swing them around!” Wu Yaoming shouted.
Each program inspector was carrying climbing ropes. In this situation, the ropes beca their best defense. They swung the ropes as they ran, trying to keep the wild creatures from getting too close.
“Ahhh!”
*Rip!*
“Xiao Wang! Use your knife! Hold on!”
But just as they tried to defend themselves, one of the inspectors at the back of the group had his hat snatched by one of the wild monkeys. With a powerful yank, the 180-pound inspector was pulled backward and slamd into the ground.
The monkey clung to a branch with one hand, while the other hand grabbed the inspector’s collar, letting out shrill cries. Its face twisted into a ferocious snarl as it continued dragging him backward.
Xiao Wang flailed his arms desperately as the wild monkey dragged him away. His movents were slow, but the venomous snakes around him began lunging forward. Terrified, Xiao Wang scread at the top of his lungs.
One of his teammates imdiately rushed over. He grabbed Xiao Wang by the legs and swang his rope at the wild monkey.
Smack!
The rope struck the wild monkey hard, and it let go of Xiao Wang with a shriek. His teammate quickly pulled him back and, wearing gloves, hurriedly brushed the poisonous creatures off of him.
But the wild monkey wasn’t ready to give up. It bared its sharp claws and lunged at the four people in front of it.
“Watch out!”
Rip!
“Ahhh, my arm!”
The wild monkey swiped at one of the inspectors, tearing through his protective suit and leaving deep scratches on his arm. Blood poured from the fresh wound, exposed to the air.
“You all need to go! I’ll handle this!”
Wu Yaoming, who had been at the back, saw what was happening. He grabbed a chemical sprayer nearby and yanked the hose off. Twisting the cap off the tank, he tipped it like a can of gasoline, dousing the wild monkey in the strong-slling liquid.
The chemical splashed all over the wild monkey. The pungent fus made it scream in pain. It scrambled away, screeching as it fled.
“Captain!”
The program inspectors looked at Wu Yaoming’s bold move, but there was no ti to thank him as he gave them a firm shove.
“What are you standing there for? Move! Do you want to lose your arm? The monkey’s claws are venomous!”
At Wu Yaoming’s shout, the injured inspector’s face went pale, and he took off running without a second thought. Right now, getting out of there was their only priority.
They had dical personnel with them, but the dics had little fighting strength. During the chaos, they had sprinted ahead, leaving the rest behind. To get treated, the injured inspector would have to catch up with them.
Rustle rustle.
The venomous snakes were still chasing behind them, along with the red-eyed toads and wild monkeys. Their eyes glinted with nace as they relentlessly pursued the group, like sheepdogs herding their flock. The shrill cries, the pounding footsteps, and the anguished wails echoed through the jungle, growing fainter and fainter as the chase carried on…
