Jane Sampson clearly rembered what Jas Chip had said to them on the way to Cloud Province.
Jas Chip said he had scouted the location in advance by driving there and that the villagers gave him the impression of being simple and passionate.
However, the reality was far from it.
Jane Sampson listened to the laughter of a group of n outside the window, her nostrils filled with the sll of smoke seeping in from outside the window and the scent of blood coming from ahead. Her head throbbed in waves, and her heart ached just the sa.
"Coco, Coco, don’t sleep," Jane Sampson whispered, reaching into her pocket and discreetly dialing the ergency number on her mobile phone. She listened to the dial tone, not daring to speak loudly.
She could only try to lower her voice as much as possible for help, fearful that the people outside would overhear and beco enraged.
Jane Sampson didn’t know whether her call for help would be of any use, but she had to try.
Fortunately, it seed that the person on the other end of the line had already realized the severity of the situation.
The call was transferred from a female police officer to a man whose voice sounded to be in his forties or fifties.
"Hello, I am the County Police Chief. If you are unable to speak, please give a ’hmm’ or a silent negative response," said the man on the phone with a calm and forceful voice. "Are you in imdiate danger?"
Jane Sampson glanced at Coco Edwards, who still hadn’t woken up, and gave a low hum in response.
"Are you at Peak Village?"
Jane Sampson continued to hum softly and then pretended to try and wake Coco Edwards, continually calling her to wake up.
As Jane spoke, the voices of the n outside the car also ca through into the phone.
"I understand, lady. Please don’t be afraid. We will notify the nearest guard team to rush over and rescue you," the person on the other end of the line said without hanging up. He turned to the policewoman beside him and said, "Don’t hang up. Talk softly to the lady on the phone to keep their spirits stable."
The police station had been aware of the situation in Peak Village since the early morning. The road at the village entrance was blocked, and it had not been cleared yet. Up until a few minutes ago, they had not received any other reports until the call about a fight in front of the hotel.
They couldn’t get in touch with the Village Chief of Peak Village, and according to the person in charge at the hotel, they had gone to the Village Chief’s ho to find him but no one was there.
Hearing the voices on the phone, Jane Sampson felt as if she finally reconnected with a glimr of hope.
So good.
Jane Sampson didn’t speak anymore. The people outside the car had not heard Jane’s voice for a long ti.
Jane didn’t know how long she had been waiting, dizzy and feeling nauseous, until finally, she heard gunshots.
The young n who had been playing cards outside the car imdiately jumped up.
"Damn! Weren’t those police officers blocked outside the village? How did they get in?"
"The police have guns!"
"What’s there to be afraid of? Even if the police have guns, they won’t dare to fire at us. Have you been working mindlessly outside the region for years? Haven’t you seen the news? The police simply don’t dare to shoot at us villagers!"
Jane Sampson listened to these conversations with continuous cold laughter in her heart.
The police might not dare to fire live rounds at these villagers, but the police had plenty of ways to subdue this group of people without using guns.
After a while, a rush of footsteps approached, and just a few seconds later, the n outside threw their cigarette butts to the ground level, cursing, "Damn! It’s the defenders! Run for it! I’ve heard these soldiers all carry live ammunition in their hands!"
