"No need," he said.
"Just a mont, sit tight!" she said, then turned and walked towards a waiter. After a mont, she returned with a cup of hot milk from the waiter, handed it to him, and said, "Here, drinking hot milk is better than lukewarm water."
He smiled, took the milk, and started drinking. The warm milk indeed made him feel much more comfortable, and the stabbing pain gradually disappeared. "Hot milk is indeed more effective," he said.
"You, don’t push yourself so much just to accommodate in the future," she said. Especially when she thought about how earlier, even though he was unwell, he had excused himself to the restroom to avoid her gaze, her heart suddenly felt a sharp pain. If she hadn’t noticed, would he have just leaned against the wall, bearing it alone until the pain subsided or until he could endure it, before coming back to her and pretending nothing was wrong?
"Okay," he replied tenderly, finishing the entire cup of milk, and his complexion finally regained so color.
"Then let’s go. You shouldn’t drive later, just take a cab back," Alice Conley said.
"It’s not as serious as you think. I know my own body, I’m fine now. I’ll drive you back," he said, then added after a mont, "Don’t worry, I’ll drive slower."
Dorian Howards drove Alice Conley to the entrance of her residential complex. Just as she was about to get out of the car, he suddenly held her hand and said, "I’m serious about the marriage thing. I hope you’ll consider it seriously. It’s not just a whim. I’ve thought about the problems and obstacles we might face, but trust , I will handle all of it."
He paused, his lips carrying a hint of bitterness, "Alice, we’ve already wasted too much ti between us. Do we really need to waste more? Do we really have to wait until the children are grown and we’re old before we can be together again?"
The three years of separation, plus this year of reunion, it’s already been four years. Do they have to miss each other again and again every four years?
After a long while, he slowly let go of her hand, watched her get out of the car, and walked into the complex until her figure completely disappeared from his sight. Only then did he take back his gaze and let out a long sigh.
Earlier, he didn’t even dare to imdiately ask her for an answer, fearing she would give a negative response. And such an answer would be unbearable for him.
She said she loved him, so if possible, he hoped her love for him was enough, enough for her to not want to refuse his proposal for marriage.
"Alice, just how... much do you love ?" he murmured to himself, but no one answered him.
