"No... Alice... don’t!" At night, Mabel Quinn lay on the bed, her face almost twisting into a knot, her head shaking violently, as if trapped in a nightmare.
Kyle Kinston was awakened by Mabel Quinn’s sleep-talking, watching her pained expression and the randomly grabbing hands. "Mabel, wake up! Wake up!" He grasped her hand that was grabbing aimlessly in the air and shouted.
But she was still stuck in the dream, repeatedly shouting, "Alice... I’m sorry... I’m sorry, it’s my fault... don’t go over there, don’t go over there..."
Kyle Kinston’s brow furrowed. Was she dreaming about Alice Conley? Even in her dreams, she felt guilty toward Alice Conley?
"Mabel! Wake up!" he called softly.
"Ah!" Her eyes suddenly opened wide, staring into his eyes, even without focus.
He quickly turned on the light, and the room was flooded with illumination. It seed to make her slowly co to her senses, her gaze gradually gaining focus, "Kyle..." she murmured.
"Yes, it’s ," he said. "You had a nightmare just now?"
A nightmare? She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, and after a while, she opened her eyes again and said, "Yes, I had a nightmare. I’ll... I’ll go wash my face first."
As she spoke, she lifted the quilt, got out of bed, and hurried to the bathroom.
Once in the bathroom, Mabel Quinn looked at her pale face in the mirror. Just now, she dread of Alice Conley. Alice stood at the edge of a cliff, crying and asking her why she didn’t help more, why she let Alice’s family fall apart, and why she, the best friend, remained indifferent?
She was really afraid that Alice would fall off the cliff like this. But except for apologizing, she couldn’t say anything else.
She turned on the tap, warm water gushing out. But as she used that warm water to wash her face, more tears stread from her eyes.
