Now reading: Chapter 75: Banquet from Fated To The Four Notorious Alpha Brothers, a Fantasy novel by BlessingDWrites.

This is a fucking banquet, not a party! The fuck!! And the guests seated before us are not our age mates. They aren’t.

I expected to see senators’ children, mayors’ children, ministers’, and alphas’ children—not the senators themselves. Not the Alphas, but their sons.

Ruby drew closer to . "Are we seeing the sa thing?" she whispered.

I gulped. "Should we leave?" I turned to her.

"I think we may have made a mistake coming here," she murmured.

"Let’s leave before they notice us," I suggested. She agreed, and we turned to go, but as we made to leave, a server rushed over.

"Misses, I’ll take you to your table. May I see your invites?" He requested, stopping us.

"Our invites?" Ruby mumbled.

"There’s no... no need..." I started to say, but Ruby showed him our invites.

"Okay, I’ll take you to your table; this way, please," he smiled and began to lead us.

I expected him to take us to a table closer to the door, but he took us to a well-positioned, prominent table.

What the heck!

Ruby and I sat at the rectangular table, facing the other guests who were sitting opposite us. One was a younger man, not too young—he should be in his early thirties; the other was older.

Oh goodness.

"Let help you." The server opened the wine bottle and filled our glasses. "Let know if you need anything," he said, turning to leave, but Ruby stopped him.

"Yes, miss?" The server ca closer.

"Caron—where is he? Is he here?"

"Oh, no, miss, Mr. Caron is on his way; he’ll be here soon. I’ll notify him that you asked for him when he arrives."

"Alright, thank you."

Moon Goddess—this is so uncomfortable and awkward. I’m trying not to make eye contact with the people seated opposite us; I don’t want to speak to anyone tonight. I just want to finish and leave.

Ruby took her wine and leaned closer to . "What sort of party is this?"

"I don’t know," I whispered, shrugging. Why would he call this a party if all the guests are dressed so formally, and they’re not smiling either? So are conversing, so are drinking, and so are on their phones, but no one seems to be having fun.

Did he lie to us on purpose? Why would he call this a party?

"I’m nervous—touch my skin, I’ve got goosebumps. I’m cold," she whimpered.

"I’m not just nervous; I’m also very uncomfortable and want to leave. We should have left."

"Let’s just stay for two hours, and then we’ll leave, okay?"

"Ok."

"This older man is staring at ; he has been looking at since we got here. Is he expecting to greet him? Do you know who he is?"

"I don’t know them. I don’t recognize any of these faces."

"I’m sure if you look harder, you’ll be able to recognize so of them."

"No, these are prominent n. I doubt I’d..." I stopped speaking when a man holding a champagne glass approached and stood behind .

"Aren’t you Ara?" He asked from behind, and I turned slightly to look at him.

"Who...?" I raised my brows, staring at him.

He smirked. "I was at the Notorious Four’s house that night; I was among the n who attended the eting near the ranch," he explained.

"Oh," I said, lost for words. What should I say to him?

"I didn’t know you’d be attending alone."

Alone? What is he saying? I ca here with my friend.

"I’m with her," Ruby said instantly.

"No," he chuckled, "that’s not what I ant." He glanced at his wristwatch. "Parker and Gavin are supposed to be here. They’re both running late. It’s unusual."

"What?" Ruby and I exclaid at the sa ti, shocked by his words.

"It seems you attended this event without having full knowledge of it," he said.

"I..." I hesitated, unsure of what to say.

"Speak to you later then." He raised his champagne glass, turned, and returned to his table.

"My goodness! This is trouble." Ruby held my arm.

"It is," I swallowed. "It is trouble."

"Let’s go. Forget Caron, let’s leave," she suggested, but I shook my head.

"He has already seen us; he’ll tell them. It’s of no use."

"I don’t want to run into them. They might bla for bringing you here when you’re unwell."

"Leaving won’t stop them from blaming you, Ruby, you know that."

"But... but... we could deny it."

I laughed. "Are you serious? Have you forgotten who they are? They’re good at pressuring others—you’d tell the truth before you know it."

"But... but..." She lowered her head.

"Oh, look, Caron is here," I said as soon as I noticed him.

"Where?" She looked up.

"He’s heading to the stage," I gestured. Ruby turned her attention to the stage, as did the others.

When he got to the stage, he cleared his throat and took the microphone. "Good evening, ladies... Oh wait, are there ladies here tonight?" He looked around.

His question made people laugh.

"Oh, there are ladies here; there are six in total. This is the first ti we’re having won at our event," he announced.

"Ok..."

His words made people laugh again.

This is getting strange.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlen. I hope you’re enjoying your evening. I was supposed to be here an hour ago, but you know how it goes. Although I’m only the president’s son, many of you here see and speak to like I’m the president himself, and because of that, I attend etings, conferences, and events ant for the president. It’s not my fault; it’s yours. Please stop doing this to ." His words sparked another round of laughter from the audience, but Ruby and I didn’t laugh. We didn’t find it funny.

We were the only ones who didn’t understand the joke. How could we? We’re both uncomfortable. I can hardly breathe. I’m starting to sweat.

"Okay, uh..." He cleared his throat and glanced at his watch. "This event is officially open; I hope everyone has fun. Or not."

His words caused another round of laughter. After he dropped the microphone, the servers ca forward with dishes and began to neatly arrange them on our tables.

Caron began to greet the guests starting from the first table. When he got to our table, sothing strange happened.
