“No need to be polite,” Mo Lan smiled.
In truth, they could have entrusted Ansel to the servants for care, but they didn’t feel at ease. It was better to take care of him themselves.

She was ticulous, and with her taking care of the child, Jian Yufei felt reassured.
Jian Yufei went to check on Ansel first, personally washing his face and wiping his body before leaving the room to look for Ruan Tianling.
Ruan Tianling was in the bathroom freshening up, and Jian Yufei pushed the bathroom door but didn’t open it.
Strange, he usually didn’t even close the door when showering, so why had he locked it today?
Inside, the sound of running water echoed; Jian Yufei assud he was showering and took out her pajamas to change into first.
Ruan Tianling knew she had co in.
He was standing at the sink, one hand braced against the counter, and the other struggling to use a towel to wipe his body.
He had just changed his bandages, the strong sll of dicine lingering on him. He had to clean his body thoroughly before spraying on cologne.
He rarely used cologne, but now he had to use it every day.
Until his wounds healed, it was necessary.
After putting on his pajamas, Ruan Tianling steadied his breathing and adjusted his expression to look less pale before stepping out of the bathroom.
Jian Yufei saw him erge and casually asked with a smile, “Why did you lock the door? I found it odd.”
Ruan Tianling walked to the edge of the bed and sat down, lazily lying back. “I was using the toilet before taking a shower. I locked the door to stop you from barging in. That would’ve been awkward.”
Jian Yufei chuckled lightly and didn’t say much.
They had been married for years—honestly, even if she did see sothing, it wouldn’t matter.
After he finished showering, she went in to take hers.
When she ca out, she found that Ruan Tianling was already lying on his side asleep.
He had his back turned to her, sothing that rarely happened.
This only happened in the past when he didn’t love her—he would sleep with his back to her then.
Jian Yufei’s mood sank slightly. She thought she was being overly sensitive.
She had been aning to ask him if he had taken his dication, but she didn’t want to disturb his rest, so she let it go.
She gently lay down beside him, leaning against his back. The heavy scent of cologne on him made her frown slightly.
He was even wearing cologne to bed?
Today, Ruan Tianling seed strange in every way. Jian Yufei reached out to turn off the bedside lamp, lying flat, but she couldn’t fall asleep.
After a while, Ruan Tianling shifted positions, lying flat as well.
Jian Yufei stared at the side of his face, her clear eyes shimring in the darkness.
What was he hiding from her?
It wasn’t that she was being overly suspicious—it was simply that the feeling he gave her wasn’t right.
Jian Yufei watched him for a long ti, eventually succumbing to sleep.
At that mont, however, Ruan Tianling opened his eyes.
He let out a breath, relieved that she hadn’t noticed his injuries.
The shot he had taken nearly cost him his life. He had spent three days in the hospital and, despite the doctors’ strong advice, hurried back to avoid worrying her or raising suspicion.
But his injuries were severe, and it would likely take a long ti to heal.
Ruan Tianling gingerly lifted his hand to press against his chest, enduring the searing pain from his wound, clenching his teeth to prevent any sound from escaping.

After the long journey back and forcing himself through the day, his wound was increasingly torturing him.
By the middle of the night, the pain had escalated to the point where he struggled to breathe.
Still, he forced himself to bear it, hoping the tornt would pass. But it only grew worse until his mind beca blurry and disoriented.
Jian Yufei heard his faint groans and groggily opened her eyes.
Realizing sothing was wrong with Ruan Tianling, she quickly turned on the bedside lamp.
