Evelyn Peary was in the living room, wailing heart-wrenchingly. She had just received a phone call from the family ho informing her that the Hastings Family had co to propose marriage. To make matters worse, the two people at the family ho had actually accepted the betrothal gifts.
At this point, the only person who could possibly rescue her was Maxwell Peary.
She was falling apart.
Hearing Evelyn Peary’s cry for help, Nia Mitchell frowned.
Rescue you?
If she doesn’t want to marry, then don’t. In this day and age, can’t one still make their own decisions about marriage?
Besides, if she couldn’t even manage her own marriage, why ask the CEO for help?
"Yes, you could talk to my brother and ask him to call off this marriage."
Nia Mitchell gave a wry smile. She knew she wasn’t the right person for this job. She doubted her ability to persuade the CEO to do anything, so it was best not to make promises she couldn’t keep.
"You should speak to your brother yourself."
After all, Evelyn Peary is his own sister.
"No, sister-in-law, please help speak to him."
It was rare for Evelyn Peary to act so coquettishly, and sure enough, Nia Mitchell found it hard to resist.
"Fine, I can help you ntion it, but I can’t guarantee whether it will succeed or not."
"Okay, thank you, sister-in-law!"
After ending the call, Nia Mitchell took a deep breath. I’ll talk to the CEO about this after work, she decided.
Ti flew. By the ti Mr. Mo left Maxwell Peary’s office, two hours had passed.
Phoebe Walker sat there sipping tea, having already made several trips to the restroom. After what felt like an eternity, she finally saw Mr. Mo erge from the CEO’s office.
Phoebe Walker took out a small mirror, touched up her makeup, stood up, straightened her clothes, and then walked into Maxwell Peary’s office.
Seeing her leave like that, everyone quietly rolled their eyes.
「CEO Office」
Maxwell Peary sat behind his desk, glancing up at Phoebe Walker who stood before him.
"What do you want?"
He kept it brief, clearly unwilling to waste words on her.
"Mr. Peary, what will it take for you to let go?"
Phoebe Walker looked up at him, her chest heaving, evidently furious.
"Let you go?"
Maxwell Peary put down his pen, shifted his position in the chair, and looked up at Phoebe Walker, his lips curling into a faint, unreadable smile.
"Yes! What on earth did I do to offend you? Why are you treating like this?"
Phoebe Walker knew Maxwell Peary was out of her league. She had only tried to associate herself with him during that birthday banquet, manufacturing a bit of scandal.
These past two days, she had also learned that her father had secretly bribed journalists to widely publicize the news that she was about to beco Mrs. Peary.
But if these incidents were the sole reason for Maxwell Peary’s harsh actions, his retaliation was far too severe.
"Phoebe Walker, do you actually think I would marry you?"
Maxwell Peary’s lips quirked as he took a sip of coffee from his desk.
Hearing his words, Phoebe Walker instinctively took a step back. The entire office plunged into a deathly silence; her own breathing seed to roar in her ears.
"I..."
For a mont, she was speechless, unsure how to defend herself.
Mrs. Peary. Those two words held such an irresistible allure. Surely, anyone in high society who knew of Maxwell Peary would covet that connection. She was no exception. She used to think she was qualified enough to occupy that position, but little did she know, in Maxwell Peary’s eyes, she was nothing.
"Mr. Peary, I know you won’t marry . Right now, I just want to return to work at MC. I hope that, considering my many years of service here, you’ll allow to co back."
