Phoebe Walker’s words seed sincere, as if she was trying to turn over a new leaf, but did Maxwell Peary believe her?
He sat there and glanced at her.
"MC doesn’t need you."
So what if she had worked here for many years?
His MC Group didn’t lack employees; as soon as a job advertisent was posted, countless people applied.
Phoebe Walker stood there, her eyes slightly red. Whenever she thought of Liam Walker lying in that hospital bed, she felt she could swallow any pride.
"Maxwell, you know my capabilities. I really need this job. Even if I made mistakes in the past, I’ve already paid the price. Can’t you just let off the hook?"
Phoebe Walker was genuinely submissive this ti, her words laced with a plea.
But how could Maxwell Peary possibly agree?
"You can leave now."
With that, he picked up a docunt and resud his work.
Ti seed to freeze. His words were like a judgnt from Hades, decreeing the end of all hope. No one could escape their fate or alter the future.
"Maxwell..."
Phoebe Walker remained standing there, hoping to salvage the situation.
But Maxwell Peary gave her no such opportunity, glancing at her, his face devoid of expression.
"Do you want to call security to escort you out? I’ll give you thirty seconds to think about it."
Phoebe Walker choked. Seeing Maxwell Peary glance at his watch, her heart pounded in her chest.
Maxwell Peary... He was definitely not the type to make idle threats. Since he’d said it, he would absolutely call security in thirty seconds.
Phoebe Walker stood rooted to the spot, so anxious she almost stomped her foot. After hesitating for more than ten seconds, she chose to leave.
"Maxwell, I hope you can give another chance."
With those words, she turned and left.
Maxwell Peary’s tightly furrowed brows relaxed. He irritably walked over to the window and opened it, and the air instantly felt much fresher.
Phoebe Walker left the CEO’s office dejectedly. The mont she stepped out, however, she imdiately composed herself. Even if she’d been rebuffed, she couldn’t let anyone see it.
She smoothed her hair, gathered her spirits, and put on her usual smile.
Passing the Secretary Departnt, she smiled and glanced at everyone who was furtively sizing her up.
"Sophia Moore, your position isn’t necessarily stable, you know."
Phoebe Walker then shot Sophia Moore a disdainful look. So what if you’re back? The Walker Family is mine.
"If I’m focusing on my work, why wouldn’t my position be secure?"
Sophia Moore didn’t believe such talk. Her goal was to beco the Special Assistant; Head Secretary had never been her ultimate ambition.
Phoebe Walker sneered. She’ll only understand when she loses; anything she says now is just empty posturing.
"Phoebe, it’s been a long ti. How about dinner tonight? My treat," Sophia Moore said with a smile, her expression clearly daring Phoebe to accept.
Phoebe Walker wasn’t exactly foolish, but she was susceptible to this kind of taunt. The mont soone provoked her, she’d rise to the bait.
"What’s there to be afraid of? Fine, I’ll go. But forget about you treating; I doubt you can afford it."
Even if she was currently unemployed, the vast Walker Family fortune was still there. She had plenty of money.
In her eyes, Sophia Moore was still that sa poor, shabby girl. So what if she dressed decently now? The inherent cheapness in her very bones couldn’t be erased.
"Who pays isn’t important. What’s important is that we should catch up properly and also have a good chat about what might happen next," Sophia Moore retorted. Her professional suit outlined her fabulous figure, and her exquisite makeup gave her an air of aloofness, as if she looked down on everything and everyone.
