"She's in Kaito's — no, our room."

Miko caught herself mid-sentence and corrected the phrasing.

If Mobius hadn't shown up, she wouldn't have needed to put it that way. But now that she had — and had gone straight for Kaito's room, of all places — a change of wording felt very much in order.

"Huh?"

Lumine blinked, then quickly looked in the direction Miko was already looking.

Sure enough — the door to Kaito's room was open. It had been closed before.

She went straight to Kaito's room...

Lumine had only ever heard secondhand that Mobius had a certain... fixation where Kaito was concerned. Seeing it for herself now, she finally understood that the stories hadn't been exaggerations at all.

"Co on — let's go have a look." Miko's voice cut through Lumine's thoughts.

"Right."

The response ca out on reflex. Lumine hurried to follow.

Wait — is Kaito actually in there?

The thought surfaced out of nowhere as they walked. Of course, she wouldn't know until she got there — but either way, she just wanted to see him as soon as possible.

"And just what do you think you're doing? Looking for sothing to steal?"

Miko's voice rang out from just ahead. She had already reached the doorway and was standing there peering into the room, though whatever she was looking at wasn't yet visible to Lumine.

Lumine imdiately rose onto her tiptoes, straining to see past her.

She couldn't help it — Miko was blocking most of the view, and the only option was to stretch as much as she could to catch a glimpse of what was inside.

Perhaps sensing Lumine's efforts behind her, Miko stepped aside slightly.

What is she looking for?

With the way cleared, Lumine finally got a proper look at the room.

Kaito — who she'd half-expected to be in there — was nowhere to be found. Instead, Mobius was perched on the bed, thodically rifling through the small cabinet beside the headboard, searching for sothing.

Even now that the two of them were standing right there in the doorway, Mobius paid them no attention whatsoever. She kept right on going through the cabinet until she had turned every last corner of it inside out.

"This guy still has nothing. Would it kill him to own a few more things?"

While Lumine was still puzzling over the situation, Mobius suddenly murmured to herself, her tone languid and unhurried.

Lumine found herself genuinely curious about what Mobius was getting at — she couldn't quite make sense of it.

"Mobius dear," Miko spoke up again, since her first remark had been completely ignored, "didn't you say you wanted to take you out and show you around? So what exactly are you doing in here?"

She couldn't do much else. Mobius had already made herself thoroughly at ho, and since she certainly wasn't going to win a fight with her, she had to work with what she had.

And besides — she really did want to know where Kaito was right now.

Had Mobius already gotten hold of him, or did he still not know she'd appeared?

If it was the latter, she genuinely felt like hitting soone.

Because Mobius had already turned up right in front of both her and Lumine — and if Kaito still didn't know, then everything he'd said yesterday was already falling apart before it had even started.

"Relax."

Mobius flopped straight back onto the bed, looking for all the world like she had absolutely no intention of going anywhere.

The motion gave both Lumine and Miko — still standing at the doorway — a small start.

What on earth was Mobius doing?

Watching her sprawled out on the bed like that, Miko was genuinely at a loss. She couldn't make heads or tails of what had gotten into her.

Is this because of Kaito?

...a bit unhinged, honestly.

The thought drifted through her mind unbidden. Kaito had ntioned before that Mobius had feelings for him — but she hadn't imagined it had already reached this point.

Better just keep talking to her...

"..."

Just as Miko was steeling herself to try again, Mobius suddenly let out a quiet sigh.

Then she continued: "And here he is, not the least bit reserved when it cos to spending ti with other won."

As she spoke, Mobius sat up and turned to face the doorway, looking at Miko and Lumine with an expression that was almost... contemplative.

For so reason Miko couldn't quite put her finger on, she had the distinct sense that Mobius had just beco dangerous in a way she hadn't been a mont ago — a far cry from the oddly casual, almost harmless air she'd given off just seconds before.

She was dangerous, of course — that had always been true. But until just now, the feeling hadn't quite been there. She'd seed almost too relaxed to feel threatening.

Now, clearly, sothing had shifted.

She doesn't know about what we did with Kaito, does she?

The thought crept into Miko's mind, and she found herself quietly on guard.

She couldn't help it. Between what Mobius had just said and the sudden change in her deanor, that was the only conclusion Miko could draw.

"That's Kaito's business — what are you going to do about it when you can't even change it?"

With Mobius's shift in mood so palpable, Miko made the deliberate choice to redirect the fire Kaito's way.

After all, whose fault was it really for going around turning everyone's heads every other day? If he'd just been a little more sensible about it, none of this would be happening.

And never mind the constant flirting — he'd gone and attracted this particular person. Miko was, very sincerely, a little bit furious with him.

"You're right."

With a small, unreadable smile, Mobius began moving toward the doorway — toward Miko and Lumine — and it wasn't clear whether she ant to leave or simply to close the distance between them.

Either way, Miko stepped aside at once.

If Mobius wanted to leave, she certainly wasn't going to stand in her way. Go wherever she liked — the sooner, the better.

"But what if I were to change the girls around him instead?"

She hadn't moved to leave the room at all. Mobius stopped right in front of Miko, her smile still perfectly in place.

Miko: !

Her heart gave a sharp lurch. She knew trouble when it arrived.

Honestly, this was exactly what she'd been afraid of — and here it was, right on schedule.

But even so, until Kaito showed up, she had to hold the line as long as she could.

"Change them? What do you an, change them? Convince them to say nice things about him?"

Miko knew perfectly well that wasn't what Mobius ant — but she also knew her job right now was to stall for as long as humanly possible.

"Of course not — that would be far too much trouble."

Mobius shook her head and followed Miko's line smoothly: "I have a faster way."

Lumine had been quietly listening to the back-and-forth between Miko and Mobius this whole ti, and the conclusion arrived in her mind with grim certainty.

Mobius still hadn't spelled it out plainly — but anyone with half a brain could hear exactly what she was getting at.

"Oh? Faster how? Do tell, Mobius dear~"

Miko had adopted a look of perfectly perford curiosity, as though she genuinely wanted to hear all about this supposedly faster thod.

Miko really is sothing...

Lumine glanced over at her with a flicker of genuine admiration for the composure.

If their positions were reversed, she was fairly certain she would not be holding up nearly as well.

She didn't look panicked right now either — but performing that level of studied calm the way Miko was doing it? No. That was out of her reach.

"Since you're so curious — I suppose I'll tell you both."
