The chamber quaked violently as dust and debris rained down from the stone ceiling. The red eyes in the shifting painting glowed brighter, and the once serene artwork transford into a dark, swirling vortex. A chilling howl echoed through the room, reverberating off the stone walls.
"Form up!" Rook commanded, his voice cutting through the chaos. The team imdiately took defensive positions, weapons aid at the painting.
The vortex expanded, and a figure began to erge—a tall, cloaked being with elongated limbs and a face obscured by shadows. Its presence exuded an oppressive aura, as if the air itself had turned to ice.
"That's the keeper?" Bulwark muttered, gripping his heavy weapon. "Looks like a nightmare."
The creature stepped forward, its claw-like hands gripping the edges of the painting's fra as if pulling itself into reality. The whispers from the walls coalesced into a single voice, deep and guttural.
"You have trespassed into the sanctuary of the forsaken," it bellowed. "Prove your worth, or be consud."
"We don't have ti for gas," Rook growled, raising his rifle. "If it moves, we take it down."
"Wait!" Viper interjected, stepping forward cautiously. She held the journal she had found, flipping through the pages. "This is a trial. It's not about brute force."
The keeper tilted its head, its movents unnervingly fluid. "The warrior speaks wisely," it said. "Your test begins now."
With a wave of its clawed hand, the room shifted. The team found themselves separated, each in a different part of the chamber. The once-cozy space was now a maze of stone corridors and archways, lit by flickering torches.
Rook's voice ca through the comms, static-laced but clear enough to hear. "Stay sharp and report in. This is so kind of mind ga. Find a way back to each other."
Viper found herself in a smaller room with a stone pedestal. On it rested a single dagger with runes etched into the blade. The whispers returned, speaking directly to her. "To proceed, you must choose: blood or sacrifice."
She hesitated, scanning the room for traps. "Sacrifice?" she muttered under her breath. "What does that an?"
anwhile, Bulwark was faced with a collapsing corridor. Massive stone blocks fell around him, forcing him to use his strength to hold up a crumbling archway. "A little help here!" he barked into the comms.
Shadow, in another part of the maze, was confronted by a spectral figure resembling soone from her past—a person she had failed to save. The apparition spoke in haunting tones, questioning her resolve and her purpose. Enjoy new stories from My Virtual Library Empire
Ghost's challenge was more abstract. He found himself in complete darkness, relying solely on sound and instinct to navigate. Every step felt like a leap of faith.
Back in the main chamber, Rook stood alone, facing the keeper directly. It lood over him, its hollow voice echoing. "You lead, yet you bear the heaviest burden. Will you carry it further, or falter under its weight?"
"I don't falter," Rook said coldly, gripping his rifle tighter.
The keeper extended a hand toward him. "Show ."
The trial had begun, and failure was not an option.
