The man’s palm was cold but firm like a vice, nearly shattering her wrist.
"You say I don’t love you, even after I proposed to you in front of the whole world?"
If I didn’t love her, would I have stayed faithful for six years? If I didn’t love her, how could I forgive so easily? If I didn’t love her, why would my heart ache like this?
He clutched her wrist, roaring in anger, "Don’t you have a heart? Can’t you feel it?!"
She could no longer contain herself. She threw her head back and indignantly yelled, "The only reason is that we look alike! It’s not you love, it’s her! I’m just a substitute, a puppet! You... you’ve never loved ."
Uttering these final words felt like her heart was being torn apart.
"I’ve been a fool, an idiot, who thought she was so lucky to have t the best man in the world... but look at the reality..." Tears uncontrollably stread down her face, her voice filled with such heartbreaking injustice, "You’re just in love with my appearance, all because my face resembles hers! In your heart, it’s not you love, it’s her!"
What the hell was she talking about?
Kris Cooper was completely puzzled.
"What are you talking about?"
"Quit playing dumb!" She indignantly lifted her face, forcefully shook off his arm, her small fists clenched like a little animal with its fur bristling. "You’re a liar, a jerk! Go find your ONLYONE, and leave alone!"
After saying that, she turned and ran towards the backyard.
ONLYONE?!
Kris Cooper’s brow twitched.
Had she... seen the words on the back of that photograph? No wonder she was talking about substitutes and puppets. No wonder she’s been acting so strange since that day... He’d even called her foolish! He was the real idiot for not realizing she might misunderstand!
"Vera!"
Ignoring him, she continued to run towards the backyard.
Right now, all she wanted was to find a place to cry her heart out, to vent all her grievances and frustrations.
"Vera!" Kris Cooper chased after her. "Stop! Let explain! Vera... AH..."
His foot slipped on a puddle on the stone pavent. He stumbled, flew forward, and landed hard on the grassland.
Hearing the man’s cry of pain, Vera instinctively stopped and ran back.
Kris Cooper had been about to push himself up, but seeing her run back, he lay back down on the grassland.
Forgetting her anger and grievances, she rushed over and supported his arm.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"
Looking at her concerned eyes, Kris Cooper spoke softly, "Weren’t you ignoring ?"
"You..."
Seeing the laughter lines in his eyes, she suddenly realized she’d been tricked. She let go of him and turned to leave.
He wouldn’t give her the chance. He reached out and grabbed her arm. Vera couldn’t dodge in ti and fell into his embrace; the man seized the opportunity to wrap his arms around her waist.
She struggled angrily. "You big liar, let go!"
"No way!" He held her tightly, his large hand pressing her restless head against his chest. "You can forget about ever letting go in this lifeti!"
"What right do you have? I haven’t sold myself to you! Let go..."
"Just because you love !"
"I don’t!"
"You do!"
"No, I don’t! I absolutely don’t!"
"Then why were you jealous just now?"
"I..." She faltered, then a pang of heartache swiftly followed. "That’s right, I do love you. So what?"
But if I’m not the one he wants, what’s the point of this love?!
"Then stay with ."
"But you don’t love !"
Pushing her struggling head back against his chest, Kris Cooper enveloped her completely in his arms.
"You fool. I’ve loved you for six years. How could I not love you?"
