Just as Sabrina was about to release her Pokémon to intervene, she froze.
It's not the critical mont yet. Now is not the best ti to rescue Lugia, she thought, her eyes narrowing as she withdrew her hand from her belt.
The Undersea Chaos
"Not good! Lugia has ignored her injuries and charged out of the Seafoam Caverns. This is trouble!" High Priest Shamiao cried out, sensing the shift in the legendary's aura.
"Go, Pidgeot!"
Shamiao summoned his mount and took to the air in a desperate hurry. Lance and Lorelei followed suit imdiately, their expressions grim.
"Wait, what exactly is happening?" Lt. Surge asked, looking bewildered.
"Lugia has broken through to the surface," Feng Che explained, grabbing Surge's arm. "She's being cornered by the League. We're skipping the tunnels. Teleport!"
With a flash of violet light, the two vanished from the grotto.
The Battle Above the Waves
At sea, the gargantuan silver bird was already being besieged. She was encircled by the four Ancient Orbs: Fire, Earth, Gale, and Sea.
The Fire Orb roared, unleashing a Flathrower that turned the clouds above into a burning scarlet tapestry. Lugia beat her wings, summoning massive waterspouts that collided with the fire, filling the air with blinding white steam.
Lugia burst through the mist, her maw opening to fire a devastating Aeroblast. The concussive air cannon slamd into the Fire Orb's trajectory, causing a massive explosion. The shockwave sent Lugia spiraling, but she corrected herself with a heavy flap of her wings. The Orbs then dispersed, taking positions at the four cardinal directions to coordinate a relentless pincer attack.
The Sabotage Plan
Feng Che and Surge reappeared on a jagged reef at the edge of the archipelago. Monts later, Sabrina materialized beside them.
"Feng Che, Surge, you finally made it out," Sabrina said, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. Continuous teleportation was clearly taking a toll on her stamina; she pulled out a Psychic Restoration Potion crafted by Feng Che and downed it in one go.
"Sorry, the cavern was a maze. We couldn't find a trace of her for the longest ti," Surge apologized, rubbing his head.
It seems Lugia modified Surge's mory of eting Lance and the others too, Feng Che noted silently.
"Lugia charged out like she was possessed," Sabrina continued. "The Heart of the Sea in Damalanchi's hand is a fatal lure for her. But I've found the weakness of this setup: we must destroy the Control Pillars."
"The League has four Heavenly King-level specialists—White, Black, Dark, and Shadow—stationed on the four main islands. Each pillar controls one Orb. If we break the pillars, the Orbs lose power, and Lugia can shatter the Duosion barrier."
She quickly laid out the map:
Blue Rock Island: Controls the Gale Orb.
Yellow Rock Island: Controls the Earth Orb. Guarded by Special Investigator White.
Red Rock Island: Controls the Fire Orb.
Silver Rock Island: Controls the Sea Orb. This is where Damalanchi is stationed with the bulk of the League's forces.
"I'll take Yellow Rock Island," Sabrina commanded. "Surge, go to Blue Rock Island and use your Electric types to shatter the Gale Pillar. Feng Che, you take Red Rock Island and the Fire Pillar. Destroy them as fast as you can, then rendezvous at Silver Rock Island."
Surge scrambled into his stealth jet, while Sabrina and Feng Che teleported to their respective targets.
The Red Rock Infiltration
Feng Che, aided by wtwo's power, reappeared halfway up the cliffs of Red Rock Island.
"Intruder!"
League personnel spotted the figure in the black cloak and smiling mask. They didn't hesitate, opening fire with machine guns and rocket launchers.
Feng Che didn't flinch. A wave of violet psychic energy swept across the slope. Bullets and rockets froze in mid-air, suspended in a stasis field as if ti itself had stopped. Feng Che walked calmly past the floating munitions. Once he passed, the "ti" resud; bullets collided with each other in mid-air, exploding harmlessly.
"Curse it! Launch the Arbok Missiles from the gunships!" the commanding officer roared. "No psychic can stop a full-scale missile strike!"
Ard helicopters dived from the clouds. But before they could fire, the violet energy gripped the gunships themselves. The missiles still locked in their external racks were detonated instantly.
BOOM!
The lead helicopter was torn in half. The pilot ejected, a white parachute blooming in the sky. Shrapnel from the explosion tore through the rotors of the trailing ships, sending them spiraling into the ocean in plus of smoke and fire.
"Incredible... a single psychic destroyed a squadron?" the officer whispered, his hands shaking.
"That's enough. Send in the Pokémon units," a weary voice said.
A man stepped out of the shadows, flanked by several Dark-type Pokémon. He wore a rumpled suit, a cigarette dangling from his lips, and a perpetually tired expression.
"Intruder, I am Black. An Elite Specialist of the League," the man said, blowing a smoke ring. "I won't allow you to touch the Fire Pillar."
"Then we settle it with Pokémon," Feng Che replied. "Go! Sirfetch'd, Alolan Ninetales, and Togekiss!"
(Feng Che's Togeketic had evolved into Togekiss back at the Gardenia estate using a top-grade Shiny Stone, pushing its aptitude to the Azure tier.)
"One Heavenly King and two Quasi-Heavenly Kings?" Black sneered, taking a final drag of his cigarette. "Hmph. Let show you the true power of a League Specialist."
