Inside the vehicle on the way there, Skye felt both excited and uneasy.
After all, she had been told that she needed to co into contact with sothing left behind by an alien civilization in order to awaken the so-called recessive genes within her body and obtain superpowers.
If this had been the Skye from a month ago, she definitely wouldn't have believed it.
But after experiencing the Temple of Eternal Night incident and visiting the island base, where she had witnessed the terrifying daily training of Warbands numbering over a thousand soldiers—
She believed it now.
Matthew had told her that this awakening was extrely important for her.
He hadn't hidden the truth about the Inhumans from her, nor had he concealed the uncertainty surrounding the abilities gained after coming into contact with the Terrigen Crystal.
The strength of the ability was one thing.
What Skye feared most was physical mutation.
Turning into so ugly monster was her greatest fear.
Fortunately, Matthew had assured her that she would not beco so hideous creature. Instead, she would obtain an extrely powerful ability.
As for the choice, he left it entirely to Skye.
If she was unwilling, she could completely skip the awakening process and instead follow Natasha's route—undergoing compatibility matching with the serum before injection and training afterward.
After thinking it over repeatedly and going through intense internal struggle—
Skye still chose awakening.
Under normal circumstances, she was no different from an ordinary girl. She had strong curiosity, the courage to explore, and she could feel fear.
But more importantly, deep within her, she possessed a decisiveness that ordinary people lacked.
So she chose to co.
"Where are we going?"
"We need to go to a specific location, Skye. The item is located directly beneath this city, inside a temple," Roscoe sat in the front passenger seat wearing the standard uniform of the Raven Warband: a red trench coat over a shirt and leather pants, paired with Martin boots.
At her waist were two firearms.
One was an RSh-12 assault revolver.
The other was a Colt M1911 pistol.
She wore black tactical leather gloves on both hands, and her golden ponytail gave her a heroic appearance.
"Sir, we conducted terrain scans of the city using military satellites. We discovered a large number of vertical ventilation shafts close to the surface. Spectral scans indicate there's a massive underground city below us." the driver reported loudly from the driver's seat, ignoring the beautiful scenery along both sides of the city streets.
"The old theater we're heading to contains one of those shafts. After receiving orders from headquarters, we arrived in advance and used plasma drilling equipnt to open the passage."
"An underground city?"
"Yes, it's massive, absolutely no smaller than the city we are currently in. We can confirm there are many tunnels below, and the layout is extrely complex." The driver continued, "But our orders were clear—we weren't allowed to enter."
"We've detected very strange magnetic fields within the underground city."
"If we enter, unexpected situations may occur. And from the tunnel entrance we've been guarding, we can hear many strange sounds. We suspect there are other lifeforms inside."
"That's why we're here." Jean, the large soldier sitting beside Skye, cracked his neck. A tal case rested beside him, and his expression carried obvious excitent.
To him, exploring a city left behind by an alien civilization sounded incredibly interesting.
"That's right, sir."
Jean was excited, and the driver was equally enthusiastic.
Joking aside, being able to transport soldiers from the Astartes and Raven Warbands was a matter of imnse pride.
He himself was already a highly trained elite soldier, yet simply sitting beside Roscoe made him feel pressure unlike anything he had ever experienced before.
If they weren't allies, he suspected he would already have felt the urge to run away.
The only regret was that he wouldn't be able to personally witness the extraordinary abilities of the two warbands' soldiers.
"Okay~" Skye beca even more nervous, but fortunately, with Roscoe and Jean present, she felt a slight sense of reassurance.
Very soon, they arrived at the old theater.
There were barely any people left around the old theater.
After mobilizing resources and manpower, the entire area had already been sealed off. Outsiders were forbidden from approaching.
Nurous soldiers guarded the periter as well.
After getting out of the vehicle, Roscoe and Jean calmly returned the salutes from the soldiers, who looked at them with admiration and excitent, before following the driver into the theater.
The interior layout of the theater was fairly ordinary and not particularly large.
But a massive hole had already been opened in the center of the stage.
Dozens of fully ard soldiers stood guard around it in full alert.
"Sir." The squad captain stepped forward to greet them. Roscoe nodded without wasting words.
"Continue guarding the area. Skye, we're going down."
After giving the order, Roscoe looked toward Jean.
Jean nodded.
At the mont, he wasn't wearing heavy armor. Instead, he wore a simple black trench coat, his outfit similar to the Raven Warband's attire, both bearing specially engraved magical runes.
They were designed for convenient use during daily missions.
From the very beginning, the Astartes and Raven Warband had been positioned differently.
The forr specialized in charging through battlefields clad in heavy armor.
Unfortunately, there currently weren't any wars significant enough to require the Astartes to deploy in full battle armor.
Jean picked up the tal case he had brought and leapt directly into the massive hole.
Soon afterward, a dull landing sound echoed up from below, suggesting the drop wasn't especially deep.
"Safe~"
"Our turn, Skye." Roscoe wrapped an arm around Skye's waist and jumped down as well under the gaze of all the surrounding soldiers.
"Huh… Captain, didn't our earlier asurents show the vertical drop was over twelve ters?" one soldier couldn't help muttering to the captain in amazent.
Jumping down from that height without any equipnt—
So this was what the legendary Astartes and Raven Warband were like?
"These are our highest-tier soldiers. Train hard in the future, and we may have the chance to join them too." The captain patted the young soldier's shoulder encouragingly.
anwhile, underground—
Roscoe held Skye by the waist, using Geppo (Moonwalk) to gently descend to the ground, mindful of her frail body.
What greeted them was a vast, empty underground corridor.
The space was dark and oppressive, the cold stone walls covered in layers of dusty, unfamiliar runes. Long tunnels twisted and intersected without end. The air was damp and stale, heavy with decay and a biting chill. Silence reigned so completely that only their breathing echoed through the darkness.
From ti to ti, snarls and footsteps of unknown origin echoed from sowhere deep within the tunnels.
Jean had already been waiting there, standing before a wall while studying the runes carved into it.
"Looks like there are quite a few new friends down here we haven't t yet." Roscoe released Skye's waist and noticed her expression looked a little pale, so she casually made a joke.
"Haha." What else could Skye say?
"Just like they reported, the magnetic field here is extrely unstable. It heavily interferes with our signals." Jean walked over while holding a palm-sized tablet.
The device had originally displayed their positioning map, but when Roscoe looked at it, the screen had gone completely black.
"It's not only interfering with signals. I'm afraid it's affecting our consciousness too."
Roscoe glanced around cautiously.
"Consciousness?" Skye raised a brow.
To her, everything still seed relatively normal aside from the atmosphere being terrifying.
"That's probably because you're an Inhuman. Let's move. We still have a long way to go before reaching our destination."
After speaking, Roscoe imdiately started walking forward.
Skye hurriedly followed after her, while Jean took up the rear.
