Bang!

A brilliant orange-yellow energy beam tore through the darkness and blasted apart the figure standing ahead of them, whose eyes were completely black and whose clothes were tattered beyond recognition.

Or rather, it no longer looked human.

It looked more like a starving corpse that hadn't eaten in ages.

"Shit, what the hell is that?"

Inside the pitch-black tunnel, Skye poked her head out from behind Roscoe while holding a glow stick. Raising it slightly, she finally got a clear look at the dried corpse lying on the ground with its head blown apart, and nearly jumped in fright.

"They were probably people who accidentally wandered in here from sowhere else and had their minds controlled."

"Judging from the clothes, they were most likely holess people."

Roscoe could roughly determine the dead person's identity from the clothing alone.

They had already encountered several attacks like this along the way.

Though not many.

For ordinary people, wandering into this place only led to one outco. Having their consciousness controlled wasn't even the worst part—once removed from the area's influence, they could theoretically recover.

But these people's physical conditions were already too terrible.

They had long since beco little more than walking corpses.

Before long, they would end up as nothing more than the white skeletons they had encountered earlier.

But after saying that, Roscoe suddenly realized she had overlooked a problem.

She turned toward Jean.

"This place is too large, Jean. Even with the spectral scan coordinates, it'll take a long ti to search every marked location that might be our destination."

"Exactly. Based on the recorded patterns, it'll probably take several days." Jean nodded.

This mission had always involved a search operation.

Boss had said their destination was sowhere inside this place, but the exact location was unknown.

They would have to search for it themselves.

Originally, Jean and Roscoe should have split up to speed up the process.

But since they had no idea what exactly awaited them at the destination, they had brought Skye—the Inhuman—with them in hopes that she might resonate with sothing and lead them there.

At the mont, though, that possibility seed rather low.

"If that won't work, should we send Skye back first and let the two of us continue searching?"

"No. I think there may be a faster thod."

Roscoe fell into thought before finally looking toward Skye with a faint smile curling at the corner of her lips.

Skye looked completely confused and pointed at herself as if asking why everyone was staring at her.

"Jean, open the case. Let Skye hold the Obelisk."

Jean didn't hesitate.

He directly opened the tal case, revealing an irregularly shaped tallic object inside.

It wasn't large.

One hand was enough to hold it.

Although Skye didn't fully understand what was happening, she obediently picked up the Obelisk from the case.

Before coming here, she had already learned what it was.

Supposedly, it was the key capable of awakening the powers hidden within her body—the so-called Terrigen Crystal. Ordinary people who touched it would imdiately be petrified and die.

Only people like her, those possessing Inhuman genes, could hold it safely.

"Wait here. I'm going to find a friend."

Roscoe nodded, and her figure instantly vanished from where she stood.

"Uh… what's Roscoe going to do?"

"She found a way for us to locate the destination more quickly." Jean imdiately understood Roscoe's idea and explained it to Skye. "These people had their minds controlled by this underground city and beca guards protecting the place."

"The entire purpose of this place is to awaken Inhumans."

"So as long as you're holding the Terrigen Crystal, you should be recognized by the guards."

Skye imdiately understood.

Very soon, Roscoe returned while dragging along one of the people controlled by the underground city.

The figure looked little different from a dried corpse and was highly aggressive, but no matter how violently it struggled, it was completely unable to break free from Roscoe's grip.

But when Skye finally gathered her courage and walked up to the dried corpse with the Obelisk in one hand and a glow stick in the other, the struggling corpse instantly went still.

Its pitch-black eyes stared directly at Skye.

"Take there." Skye spoke to the corpse in a commanding tone.

Roscoe released her grip and stepped aside. The corpse imdiately turned around and began walking deeper into the tunnel.

"Pretty simple, isn't it?" Roscoe shrugged at Jean.

Then she followed after it, with Skye close behind.

With the guard leading the way, the three of them quickly arrived at another tunnel. But after reaching the center, the dried corpse suddenly stopped moving altogether.

"Why did it stop?"

Holding up the glow stick, Skye looked around in confusion. Had the corpse brought them to a dead end?

"No. I think we're here, Skye."

Roscoe patted Skye on the shoulder and pointed toward the end of the tunnel. Skye imdiately understood and walked forward while the two followed behind her.

Soon, they stopped before an enormous wall.

With a harsh, heavy grinding sound, the wall before them activated and slowly rotated open, revealing two passageways. Light spilled out from the stone chamber within.

"Go in."

The three of them stepped inside.

What ca into view was a circular stone chamber that wasn't particularly large. At the center stood an ancient waist-high stone pedestal illuminated by a pillar of light.

There was a groove carved into the top of the pedestal.

"Skye," Roscoe said as she looked at her.

Skye swallowed nervously, nodded, and walked forward. The mont she approached the pedestal, the tallic Obelisk in her hand began glowing with a crimson light from within.

Then it resonated with the stone pillar.

Accompanied by a strange sound, the Obelisk left Skye's hand and floated toward the pedestal before slowly fitting itself perfectly into the groove.

Not only that, but the open stone wall behind them suddenly began closing rapidly.

Roscoe and Jean exchanged a quick glance.

With only a look from Roscoe, Jean instantly understood. He stomped his foot against the ground and vanished from the chamber without hesitation.

Only Roscoe remained behind.

"Roscoe!" Hearing the movent behind her, Skye turned around, her expression becoming even more uneasy.

But Roscoe gave her a firm and encouraging look.

"Don't worry, Skye. I'll stay here with you."

"Thanks."

With Roscoe's reassurance, Skye finally relaxed a little. She turned back toward the stone pillar, which had also begun rotating.

Under the watch of both won, the Obelisk embedded in the pedestal slowly cracked open, revealing a crystal inside.

The crystal grew and blood outward into a radiating cluster. Sharp crystalline facets spread in every direction, resembling a tallic blue lotus flower. The center shone brightest, gradually dimming toward the outer edges.

The mont it fully blood, an invisible wave of energy suddenly swept through the chamber.

The impact alone forced Skye backward several steps.

Roscoe, however, remained completely unmoving. At the sa ti, the magical runes woven into the surface of her red coat lit up with brilliant golden light.

They blocked the incoming shockwave.

Roscoe narrowed her eyes slightly. She could clearly sense that the wave contained countless microscopic particles imbued with a strange invisible power.

They rapidly rged into the body.

According to Matthew, any ordinary person touched by these particles would imdiately be petrified.

Of course, Roscoe wasn't included in that category.

Mainly because her physique—or rather, her level of life itself—was already far too high. Even if those particles entered her body, not only would they fail to alter her genes, they would instead be shredded apart by her own genetic structure.
