"Then I’ll reluctantly stop helping with this matter."
"That’s not what I ant." Joanna Lawrence pinched his cheek and smiled, "I’m not familiar with her; why would you bring her here?"
"Then let’s not talk about her." Ashton Heath really didn’t have a good impression of Wendy Arden, "Let’s eat."
He glanced at the untouched food on the table and gently pinched her nose, "Didn’t I tell you not to wait for ?"
"I’m not that hungry, so I waited for you to eat together. Eating alone is no fun."
The two of them spoke intimately as they leaned in close.
Joanna suddenly sensed a resentful gaze coming her way. Startled, she turned her head and saw Wendy Arden standing a few tables away in the corridor.
Wendy Arden’s eyes were red and swollen, with half of her face swollen as well. Her eyes, filled with tears, glared at Joanna with deep resentnt.
The mont their gazes t, the resentnt in Wendy’s eyes deepened even further, as if she were looking at a mortal enemy.
A flash of surprise crossed Joanna’s eyes.
Her surprise ca from the inexplicable hostility and resentnt Wendy harbored towards her.
Apart from their one encounter that night, Joanna and Wendy had not interacted since.
But why did the young girl’s gaze seem so terrifying?
It was as if Joanna had done sothing terribly unjust to her.
Like stealing sothing that Wendy cherished.
"What’s wrong?" Ashton noticed Joanna’s disturbed expression and followed her gaze, only to see Wendy standing in her original spot, glaring at Joanna with reddened eyes. His eyes narrowed, and his aura suddenly turned dangerous.
Upon encountering his warning-filled, dangerous gaze, Wendy seed frightened. She quickly averted her eyes, lowered her head, and walked away.
"Ashton Heath, did you help her just now?" Joanna withdrew her gaze and looked at the man beside her with so suspicion.
"Yes." Ashton Heather nodded, "Why?"
"Is Wendy... fine?"
"She’s fine. She just got slapped." Ashton didn’t know why she had brought up Wendy Arden again, but he still answered her question.
"Is that all?" Joanna furrowed her eyebrows.
"Yes, that’s all. Baby, what do you want to say?" Ashton hooked his lips, rubbed her head with his hand, and said, "Let’s stop going in circles, alright?"
"I thought that she had been... wronged sohow." Joanna thought of Wendy’s resentful gaze earlier, finding it inexplicable, "Just now, she looked at with such resentnt, as if I had done sothing terrible to her. I was wondering whether sothing had happened."
Even if Wendy had been slapped,
Joanna wasn’t the one who did it.
Joanna didn’t know why Wendy suddenly harbored hostility towards her.
But Ashton did.
Rebecca Kelloway served as a precedent.
So even though Wendy was still young, Ashton distanced himself imdiately upon realizing her intentions.
Today, if it weren’t for Joanna,
He would never help Wendy.
"Don’t mind her; she’s just an unimportant person." Ashton patted her head, picked up the knife and fork, cut a piece of steak, and fed it to her, "Aren’t you hungry? Let’s eat first."
Although Joanna found Wendy to be strange, she didn’t think too much of it.
As Ashton had said, Wendy was indeed an unimportant person.
