"Sophie Smith." Asher Land’s voice was sowhat weary, hoarse.
"Hmm?" Sophie Smith looked up seriously at him, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing..." Asher Land didn’t know how to tell her, bringing Irene Morton back to the Land Family now was actually sothing he didn’t want to do, but if he left Irene to fend for herself outside, he sohow felt it wasn’t right.
"Rest assured, there won’t be anything between Irene and . As long as I help her kick the addiction and get back what she deserves from the Morton Clan Group, I’ll send her back to Europe." Asher Land spoke to her word by word.
What did he just say? Addiction recovery?
"What’s happened to her? When did she get involved with drugs?" Sophie Smith was extrely incredulous.
"Just tonight." Asher Land paused for a long mont before speaking, "I don’t know how much she took, whether she’s already addicted, but... I want to make sure she’s absolutely safe."
Sophie Smith lowered her eyes, a hint of pain in them.
To be honest, if not for Irene Morton tonight, she might have endured those inhumane tortures as well.
Asher Land stepped forward, walking towards the maid’s room.
"What are you going to do?" Sophie Smith briskly walked to him, blocking his path.
"Summon a few maids to take care of her. She’s filthy now and needs a bath first."
"No need." Sophie Smith pushed him away from the maid’s room door, "They’re all asleep now; I’ll take care of Irene myself, don’t wake them up."
"But Sophie..."
"There’s no but." She slightly curved her lips at him, then walked into Irene Morton’s room. Asher Land was about to enter, but she closed the door, leaving him out in the cold.
Irene Morton heard footsteps approaching her bedside, but it wasn’t Asher Land.
Imdiately, she felt a bit disappointed inside.
"Irene, take a bath first, I’ll help you." Sophie Smith said and reached out to help Irene off the bed.
"Sister Sophie, please leave, I don’t want to trouble you." Irene Morton’s voice quietly reached her ears.
"But, it was Asher Land who asked to take care of you; if you send away, he’ll have sothing to say about it later."
"What?" Irene Morton suddenly sat up from the bed and grabbed Sophie Smith’s hand, "You an taking care of was Brother Asher’s idea? He still cares about ?"
Sophie Smith didn’t respond directly, only nodding.
Though Irene Morton’s consciousness was gradually blurring, hearing Asher Land’s na always made her snap to attention.
With a slight smile at the corner of her lips, she got out of bed, staggering sowhat towards the bathroom. Sophie Smith hurriedly supported her.
Irene Morton took off her clothes and lay in the bathtub, as Sophie Smith looked at the large and small bruises on her body, she couldn’t help but sigh.
"I can do it myself." Despite both being won, Irene Morton seed sowhat wary of Sophie Smith’s help.
Sophie Smith didn’t insist, just stood aside, watching her wash. What she needed to do now was to keep a close eye on her, preventing any accidents or foolish actions.
Irene Morton closed her eyes, striving to calm the unease inside her.
She felt dry-mouthed, her breathing beca faster, her hand tightly pinched her thigh, drawing blood unnoticed.
