Asher Land suddenly stood up, grabbed the suit jacket off the coat rack, and rushed outside.
"Brother Asher, where are you going so late?" Irene Morton shouted loudly behind him.
But the only answer she got was the sound of the sports car engine starting.
In the blink of an eye, the sports car disappeared from the Land Family villa.

Sophie Smith curled up on the sofa, her eyes blankly staring at the corner of the living room, her mind a complete blank.
"The truth is that I belonged to your dad over ten years ago, Little Jas is his biological son, understand? So don’t think too highly of yourself, your mom is dead, you’re an outsider to this house."
"I’ve been enduring humiliation and bearing burdens by your dad’s side, naless and faceless. Four years ago, the house was going to be demolished, Golden Era gave several million in relocation compensation. I asked for a million, but that woman wouldn’t agree. Your dad wanted to divorce her, and she couldn’t take it, so she jumped off a building and committed suicide, it’s that simple."
Charlotte Harrison’s words were like a nightmare, lingering in her mind. Why, why be so cruel?
She clutched her head, crying out in pain.
"Mom, I miss you so much, miss you so, so much..."
Being alone is when loneliness hits the hardest, she never even hopes to get anyone’s companionship, after all, she’s just an abandoned child, that’s all.
The panic deep inside spread, until it reached every corner of her body.
Suddenly, three urgent knocks on the door rang out, startling Sophie. It’s the middle of the night, around three or four, who would be knocking?
The more she thought, the more terrified she felt. She struggled into a corner, trembling.
"Sophie, it’s alright, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, ..." She kept praying in her heart, but the knocking continued without pause.
Was it human or ghost? Sophie was frightened out of her wits, she tiptoed to the door barefoot.
Knocking and doorbell ringing alternated, driving Sophie to the brink of insanity, her heart hamred in her throat.
Fine, if she dies, she dies. She didn’t care anymore. She hesitated, opening the door, but when she saw who was standing there, she froze.
"Wh-what are you doing here so late?"
"I heard you don’t want to see ?" He smirked with a sowhat playful smile, his handso face showing a hint of fatigue.
"So what?" She asked calmly.
"So I wanted you to see right away."
His thoughts, his emotions, she never understood.
Asher Land’s star-like eyes swept over her, her eyes were red as if she had just cried, her face was deathly pale, her lips bloodless, wearing nothing but a thin nightgown, and her tiny figure seed to shiver in the gradually cold weather.
How did she end up like this?
Sophie felt uneasy under his piercing gaze, avoiding his eyes like an escape, walking toward the room.
Asher Land followed closely behind.
The master bedroom’s quilt was pristine, untouched, looked like she hadn’t slept.
"Is it because I’m not with you that you have insomnia?" He smirked triumphantly, that must be it, definitely!
"I’ve been sleeping on the sofa this whole ti."
"..."
She lay quietly on the bed, eyes closed, feeling instantly much more at ease.
Asher Land lay down beside her.
"Are you angry with today?" He whispered softly in her ear, holding her slender waist.
"No."
"You’re lying."
