"Miss Smith, why don’t you go upstairs and check on Mr. Davis?" Amanda wasn’t blaming Sophie Smith; she had just been by Nolan Davis’s side for so long that naturally, seeing him get hurt by a woman left her with mixed feelings.
"Oh..." Sophie Smith responded softly and walked upstairs.
Amanda noticed her expression, akin to a child who had done sothing wrong.
In fact, upon careful consideration, it might not have been her fault that Mr. Davis got injured. Last night, he said he wanted to help her apply dicine and then asked everyone to leave.
Generally, applying dicine wasn’t a big deal, but Sophie’s injury was on her back. Mr. Davis probably had so inappropriate thoughts while helping her with the dicine, leading Sophie to defend herself and, consequently, injure him...
Amanda analyzed the situation rationally in her mind.
...
Sophie went upstairs and gently opened the door.
She peeked her head inside and saw Nolan Davis lying on his side with his back turned to her.
She knocked on the door twice, but there was still no response from inside.
"Mr. Davis..."
She called out a few more tis, but there was still no reaction.
To give an account to Amanda, she mustered her courage and went inside.
As she approached the bedside, he still seed unaware, and Sophie glanced down at him before leaning her head closer.
She wanted to check his wound, noticing the bright red blood seeping through the white gauze applied the night before. She thought, perhaps changing the dressing would be better.
"Mr. Davis, are you still asleep? Shall I help you change the dressing?"
There was no need to get a response from him; she simply brought the dicine box and sat by the bedside.
She reached out, carefully trying to remove the gauze from his head.
"Hiss..."
The person on the bed finally reacted.
Nolan Davis frowned, opened his eyes, and saw the woman sitting by the bed with a serious expression.
"Mr. Davis, you’re awake. I, Amanda asked to co up." She wasn’t even sure what she was explaining, "I’ll change your dressing first, and then you can get up for breakfast."
Nolan Davis sat up in bed, leaned against the headboard, and rubbed his throbbing temples.
It wasn’t so bad while sleeping, but as soon as he woke up, his head felt like it was going to explode.
"Does it hurt a lot?" Sophie asked, noticing his sowhat distorted expression.
"A little."
"What to do about it?"
What could be done?
Nolan Davis shook his head helplessly, "Don’t worry; the pain will pass soon. Consider this as the price I pay for last night’s transgression."
Sophie didn’t hesitate further and removed the gauze from his forehead, then replaced it with a new dressing.
"All done, Mr. Davis. The dressing is changed, and Amanda has prepared breakfast downstairs. Can you get up now?" she asked tentatively.
"I can."
"Oh, alright, I’ll wait for you downstairs." She was about to turn and leave when he called out to her.
"Little Sophie, could you help change my clothes?"
Change clothes?
"Mr. Davis, your wound is on your forehead, not your hands or feet, you..."
"As a favor to a sick man, will you help this once?"
He found himself quite enjoying her care.
"Umm, Mr. Davis, I’ll go down and get the maid to co and help..."
After saying this, Sophie quickly went downstairs, and shortly after, Amanda ca up.
"You can leave," Nolan Davis said to Amanda as soon as she entered.
