"Ah I'm sorry Serena," Shauna winced, patting her side comfortingly, "You'll find what you wanna do, don't worry!" she assured her.
'Will I?' Serena couldn't help but think She'd tried to many things. Rhyhorn racing, gardening, part ti work, art, soccer, she'd even tried her hand at becoming a nurse. But, nothing had ever sparked a desire for her to pursue.
And now even being a sky trainer had flopped too.
A sha too since she could have used their family Fletchling. And even worse, it was centing more to her mother, that she was 'destined' to beco a Rhyhorn racer.
She'd ever transferred the ownership of their family Rhyhorn to her. Without asking her opinion on it either.
She wasn't even a registered trainer…..technically.
She'd passed the exam for it ages ago, she'd just never actually pursued the route of a proper trainer, or even picked a starter pokemon yet.
'Here I am, eighteen and still no idea what I want to do with my life.' Serena bit back a sigh, eyeing her friend in front of her. She was the oldest of her friend group, a whole two years ahead of Shauna, Trevor and Tierno.
…Well not counting Calem who was a couple months older than her and would be turning nineteen soon.
"Hopefully," she forced a smile on her face for Shauna, "Actually, you texted while I was at that school you said you had found out what you wanted to do right, when you left on your journey?"
Shauna, Tierno and Trevor had got their starter pokemon together a year ago. And planned on leaving on a journey together. They'd basically hung back an entire year…because of well, her and Calem.
Trying to convince her to go with them, and help with Calem. Her hand went to her skirt pocket, fingering one of the shrunken pokeballs within it.
Another pokemon forcibly transferred to her without her consent. Khangaskhan. Calem's pokemon.
Originally at least.
…Well, it was technically his parents pokemon on paper, but they'd bought it for him as a child, and he'd went on to win a tournant with it even. Back then, he'd seed so cool and strong.
His na was on everyone's lips. A child prodigy people called him. Claid he was a champion in the making.
Only, not even a couple weeks later he basically abandoned Khangaskhan and retreated to his bedroom and refused to co out.
All because so paparazzi had accidentally gave him a fright when calling out to him from behind and trying to ask him so questions. Ever since then, he'd given up pokemon training, given up leaving his room and dedicated his life to being a NEET.
…It had been over eight years now since that day.
"Oh yeah, totally!" Shauna broke her from those morose thoughts and bounced on her feet excitedly, "See, when I went to Lumiose with my parents a few days ago, there was one of those showc-"
She never got to finish as a massive, piercing shriek thundered through the air, and a giant shadow blotted out the sun from above.
As one, the four of them looked up on instinct just in ti to see an absolutely gargantuan bird pokemon fly over them. Absolutely massive, with beautiful feathers of cream and brown, and a majestic mane of blonde and pink flowing in the wind behind it.
"Holy crap!" Tierno exclaid, jumping to his feet, gaping at the massive pokemon flying off and disappearing beyond the buildings.
"What…what the heck was that?!" Serena couldn't help but ask herself, that pokemon was absolutely titanic! And those wings! They were longer than her rhyhorn!
"I…think that was a Pidgeot!" Trevor uttered in awe, "Fascinating, I had no idea they could even get that big. This is my first ti seeing one too! Oh if only it was flying slower I could have taken a picture!"
"Pidgeot?" Shauna cocked her head to the side.
"The fully evolved form of Pidgey and Pidgeotto," Trevor whirled to her excitedly, eyes glinting with his fascination. It was his dream after all, to photograph all types of pokemon throughout the world, "They're super rare. While Pidgey and Pidgeotto are super common, few will ever evolve into a Pidgeot. It's said only the most talented trainers will be able to raise a Pidgey to a Pidgeot."
Huh, was that so?
Serena's blue eyes road to the empty air where the giant bird had flown past, "There was sobody on its back too, I think I saw a saddle as well." she mused.
Shauna clapped her hands together before pumping her fist, "Do you think that ans they're here for the tournant?" she wondered.
"Most likely," Tierno turned back to them and nodded sagely, crossing his arms, "There's a decent prize money for the winner, but the real prize is that Professor Sycamore will let the winner pick any of the starter pokemon he has."
"Then it looks like the tournant will be really exciting huh?" Serena looked back at them, "I wonder if that trainer will use that huge Pidgeot in the tournant?"
"I hope not!" Tierno grimaced, "I'm in the tournant rember. I've got a Pikachu, but…I don't think type advantage is gonna help much with a Pidgeot that big."
Shauna gave him a shit eating smirk, "Better luck next ti Tiernie!" she mock consoled him, patting his shoulder.
"Hey, don't count out just yet!" he complained, "My Wartortle has totally mastered all my moves and knows Ice Beam!" he shot finger guns her way and gave both girls a roguish wink.
"Good luck with that." Serena laughed, turning away and looking to the cafe across the street, "Let's go get sothing to eat, and maybe a coffee, we've got so ti left before the tournant starts anyway."
