Charlotte's question was obvious where it ca from. It wasn't just that she saw it with her own eyes, how they tried to kill them, how they killed Rafael and Hans, but she heard whispers about the revenge Jas did, and moreover, she saw Vallen too, just shooting people. And in her mind… a gun, a pistol, is worth more than knowledge, and of course, these are things that she saw all her life.
To be feared, to be respected, you need to show who you are, what you are capable of doing, and for her it was a pistol, sothing that can take a life. That is the weapon of the mafia, weapons of the family, that is how you reach the top.
But from Jas's point of view, it wasn't. A man who pretended to be a mafia boss from the beginning, who never killed nobody nor knew how to shoot a gun, and here he stood, thought the criminal underworld like a prince who is ready to claim his throne, and he wanted the sa for her.
In Jas's mind, Charlotte has the potential to beco a greatness, the queen of it all, but she needs to understand. She needs to know that knowledge is more powerful than weapons will ever be.
"Yeah, I did it, and if I would get busted in that police station, then everything would have ended… in that mont I was mindless, without knowledge, just a bull that couldn't stop because of the anger." He tapped her forehead again. "Manipulation, controlling, blackmailing, intimidation, threats all of it are more dangerous, more fearful, more influential than this gun." He sighed as he slowly stood up with the help of Hector, then handed the gun back to him. "You can use your words as bullets, to hurt those who deserve it. You can build a whole empire without even pulling the trigger. Be a genius, Charlotte, soone who doesn't need a gun to dominate… be sobody who can do it with words. I'm sure you've experienced enough to know what it ans. You know, don't idolize , nor Lucian. Don't think this is right, the obvious step, no, because once you pull the trigger, you won't stop pulling it, the darkness will attach. But you don't even think about it right now, just listen and learn in silence, and ask questions so later you know what to do." He finished as he petted her head, ssing her whole hair up.
But a question ca quickly from her. "So… if I use words… what do I do to those who want to hurt ?" She asked back as Jas started going into the living room, but stopped and looked back.
"Words turn into orders, Charlotte and orders turn into actions." He faintly smiled. "But today's lesson is over. Go find Bella and get your stuff and settle in." Jas said as he slowly turned back, went to the living room… and left Hector speechless.
What he said to Charlotte, what he explained to her, was his life, at least the beginning of it a ti when he killed nobody himself and only used words to order others to do the job. Yes, there were killings done, but never by his hands. He never pulled the trigger, and no one died by his own hands, only in his na… at least in the past.
"Uhm… wasn't it too much?" Hector asked as he sat down next to Jas, mind blown, like he thought the security changes and the helicopter would be the highest point of the day, but now it was all taken by Jas as he explained sothing terrible to Charlotte, to a child.
"Maybe, but at least she got answers." He glanced at Hector. "If she wants to know it, then let her know about it, and it is obvious we can't hide it, and also it's better that she knows it."
Well, it made so sense to Hector. There was a big difference between Charlotte and another child like Amanda. Charlotte knew about everything, who they were, that they killed people. She experienced it with her own eyes. She saw abuse, beatings, people murdered in front of her, and learned along the way… so letting her know about it was, well, really a way to spoon-feed her all of it, like teaching her the basics.
Still, it was just too sudden, like out of nowhere, lecturing Charlotte about the power of words rather than the gun, when both of them knew she didn't really understand it, which also ant she would ask more about it… but that was the aning of it for Jas, to make her ask questions rather than letting all of it sink in at once.
In that way, she could deal with trauma and emotions, let herself ask questions, because one thing was sure. She is Lucian's blood, and that motherfucker was crazy from childhood, which ant Charlotte would have no problem with any of it… at least that's what Jas was hoping for.
"But today I want peace. I thought I would have enough power, but I am off the ds, so I need to regain all the power. So now let sleep, and at night we can talk about plans, and tomorrow we can visit them."
"I'm good with it." Hector said and to be true he noticed the pain on Jas's face from the mont they landed.
Not just that, but Hector knew that Jas didn't choke out his pain with the doctors for a reason… to feel the pain, to never forget that mont, to bear the wound of guilt every single day and feel it.
Hector understood, quietly, that this was Jas's way of keeping himself tethered to reality, to the weight of everything he had done and survived. It wasn't weakness, it wasn't self-punishnt in the usual sense, it was discipline, a constant reminder of the cost of power, of choices, of survival.
A bit of masochistic behavior, but with purpose… at least the pain would serve as a reminder to stay ruthless, that motherfucker.
