Alice Turner stood at the doorway, not intending to move aside. Benjamin Shaw was stunned, unsure of what to do. Just as the two of them were stuck in a standoff at the door, her phone suddenly rang in her pocket.
Hearing the phone ring in her pocket, Alice’s first reaction was that Thomas Fisher had called. She didn’t want to answer the call in front of Benjamin Shaw.
She thought if she didn’t answer, the person on the other end would hang up first, but she was overthinking. The phone in her pocket kept ringing, completely ignoring the situation she was currently facing.
She was anxious, and after a good while, she reluctantly pulled out the phone from her pocket. As soon as she took it out, she quickly held it up in front of her.
Charlotte Shaw!
Seeing that it was a call from Charlotte Shaw, Alice’s heart imdiately relaxed. Without hesitation, she answered the call.
"Alice! What are you doing? Why did it take you so long to answer my call?" As soon as the call connected, Charlotte’s voice ca through from the other side.
Alice instinctively glanced at Benjamin standing in front of her, noticing his gaze was lost toward the kitchen. Retracting her gaze, she asked, "Did you need sothing by calling ?"
She didn’t answer the question posed by the person on the other line, instead, she asked the person. She trusted her judgnt, believing Charlotte must have a reason for calling.
If her judgnt wasn’t wrong, then Charlotte must have heard sothing from their mother.
"Actually, it’s nothing much. I just heard from mom that you and Benjamin were having so issues." Charlotte wasn’t one to beat around the bush. She always spoke her mind, and because of this, Alice got along well with her.
Upon hearing this, Alice knowingly raised an eyebrow, "Are you worried that I’ll do sothing silly out of despair?"
She was purely joking with this remark. Doing sothing silly out of despair was sothing she’d probably never do. She wasn’t soone to dwell on things, and such notions had no place in her life.
"That’s not what I’m worried about at all."
Charlotte knew Alice better than Benjamin did. Her call wasn’t out of concern for that; she was worried that in a mont of anger, Alice might divorce her brother.
Listening to Alice joke on the other end of the call eased so of Charlotte’s initial worries. However, she couldn’t fully relax, knowing that her brother had acted excessively.
Alice knew that Charlotte wasn’t worried about that, and she understood what Charlotte was truly concerned about. Yet, she couldn’t directly tell the person on the other end that she was indeed doing what Charlotte feared.
If she ntioned it now, it would only complicate the divorce situation further.
"So there’s really no need for you to call specifically. I’m doing just fine, and your worries are unnecessary." She knew full well whether the worrying was unnecessary, but she couldn’t be truthful at this mont.
"Hearing you say that puts my mind at ease."
Charlotte didn’t know the actual situation. Listening to Alice calmly speak, all her prior worries vanished. Little did she know that Alice was playing along.
Although she couldn’t see the person on the other end, Alice could feel that Charlotte had put her worries to rest. This was exactly what Alice hoped for, and her own heart eased, "Sis! You should’ve been at ease a long ti ago."
