"Jessie," the brown-haired girl said, only giving her na.

"Are you college students?" Jack drove slowly, constantly watching the road.

Jessie nodded. "We're from New xico Highlands University, just finished our final exams. What about you?"

"I'm from LA," Jack replied truthfully.

Jessie looked surprised. "Wow, big city people, why are you in a backwater like ours?"

"I'm about to change jobs, and I have a two-week vacation, so I thought I'd co out and see the world. To be honest, I've hardly ever been to any other cities before."

Jessie seed a little envious. "I also want to go on a road trip alone, so free and easy."

"You'll have the chance, but you'd better bring a gun. It's a bit dangerous for a pretty girl to travel alone."

Jack gave her advice while subtly praising her. The slightly awkward atmosphere between them disappeared. Through Jessie's introduction, Jack also learned the nas of her companions.

The redhead was nad Francine, and her boyfriend was Evan, the bespectacled man. The curly-haired man in the yellow shirt was nad Scott, and his girlfriend was nad Carly. They were all Jessie's best friends.

"We're here."

The dilapidated gas station finally ca into view. The dirty old man at the entrance was still sitting in his recliner, grinning at them with his few remaining teeth.

The two got out of the car together. Jessie's eyes lit up when she spotted a shabby public phone. She rushed over, picked up the receiver, and then put it down in disappointnt.

"Sir, this phone is broken. Is there another phone I can borrow?"

The dirty old man shook his head, and after a long while, he answered in a heavy Southern accent, "This is the only phone around here."

Jack, standing to the side, didn't speak, his eyes scanning the surroundings. This dilapidated tin shack made him very uncomfortable. The last ti he felt this way was in the old zoo where the serial killer hid.

Finally, his gaze fell on a row of dried at strips hanging on a wooden shelf on the side of the house, and his eyes suddenly turned cold.

"Sir, do you live here alone?" Jack asked.

The filthy old man continued to shake his head, seemingly struggling even to speak: "My children co to see occasionally and bring so food."

"Like that dried at?" Jack pointed to the wooden shelf.

Jessie, standing beside him, looked at him with so confusion, not understanding why he was still chatting with this old man.

"Yes, there are many wild deer here, and my children are very good at dealing with them," the filthy old man said indistinctly.

Jack narrowed his eyes slightly, his body tensing up.

"Then tell , do the wild deer here have tattoos?"

"You bastard, too many questions."

The filthy old man suddenly struggled to stand up from the recliner and stumbled into the doorway behind him.

"What's going on?" Jessie hadn't even figured out what was happening when Jack grabbed her and pulled her behind him.

"Die!" The filthy old man, trembling, reappeared in the doorway, carrying a worn-out double-barreled shotgun.

Bang!

Jack had already drawn his FK 7.5mm pistol from under his arm and fired a shot right between the man's eyebrows.

"Ah!" With Jessie's scream, the filthy old man's body slumped against the door.

"What happened? Why did he want to kill us? Why do you have a gun?" Jessie was terrified and almost hysterical, trying to break free from Jack's grip on her left hand.

"Shut up. It's because only humans have tattoos."

Jack activated his senses, his head buzzing from her scream, and quickly snapped at her to stop.

Although the wooden fra was more than ten ters away, a rose was clearly tattooed on one of the dried at pieces. Although it was sowhat blurred due to the sun exposure, Jack's current 26 points of ntal strength provided enough senses to make the design clear.

"You... you an that's human flesh?"

Jack pulled her over the old man's body and into the tin shack. A faint stench of decay emanated from inside, and a very old-looking freezer stood by the window.

With a snap, the freezer lid, which was already slightly ajar, was opened. "You can confirm it with your own eyes."

"Ugh!" After Jack released her arm, Jessie covered her mouth and ran out of the shack. The freezer was full of dismbered human limbs.

"Don't leave behind!"

Seeing Jack walk out of the shack, carrying that pistol, and head towards the back of the shack, Jessie scread and hurriedly followed. The next second, she was stunned by the scene before her.

Circling the dilapidated trailer obstructing their view, a massive crater appeared before them, piled high with the wreckage of various vehicles: minibuses, vans, pickup trucks, and mostly sedans and SUVs — nearly a hundred in total.

So of the wreckage was rusted from sun and rain, but many more clearly showed they had been towed into the crater no more than a year or two ago.

"My God, could all of these be…?" Jessie covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face.

"I'm afraid so. I'm more worried about your companions now." Jack's face was grim. He had no recollection of cannibalistic horror stories, and the scale was terrifying.

[A/n: F*cker didn't watch Wrong turn series, or forgot.]

Jessie snapped out of her daze. "You an the one who laid the wire might be…"

She quickly wiped her tears and walked towards the Firebird parked by the roadside. "We have to go back and save them right away."

"Calm down, we need to think of sothing first." Jack pulled her back.

"Even if I throw everything out, this car can barely fit four people."

He jumped onto the dilapidated trailer and checked it out. Luckily, the keys were still in the ignition.

"Listen to , we don't know how many people and weapons the other side has. I only have one gun; I can't protect all of you, understand?"

Jack gestured for Jessie to get on the trailer first. "We'll drive this car to pick them up."

"What about your car? Why don't we drive it together?" Jessie asked, puzzled.

Jack was a little worried. Right now, he desperately wished his Firebird was bulletproof.

His gaze fell on a large, dirty tarpaulin on the trailer, and an idea ca to him.

Jack waved to the girl. "Help drag this tarpaulin down."

He drove the Firebird behind the ditch, facing backwards next to a broken-down car on the edge, covered it with the tarpaulin, and then looked at it from a distance. The effect was acceptable; at first glance, there wasn't much difference.

"My car is hidden here. If the tow truck runs into trouble, we just need to get back here."

Helping with rescues is fine, but Jack really couldn't bear to see his beloved car get shot.

"Thank you, really." Jack drove the tow truck, and Jessie in the passenger seat seed much calr, sincerely thanking him.
