Now reading: Chapter 416: The Strongest Soulless from Requiem Of A Failed Hero, a Fantasy novel by RighteousFilth.

Raith looked at him and made a small smug laugh.

’What the hell is wrong with this guy...’

He respected Reeves and all. In fact, with these few minutes if eting him, the kind of aura that shrouded him. Raith thought it to be nothing but aweso.

But what was this annoying cockiness thus guy was exhibiting.

’He wants to test ...? Disgusting, really disgusting’

Raith downturned his mouth at the brute soulless.

He had been going through hell with Thard - Harl, his skill had increased by leap and bounds in his fight with the dreadsoul.

He could say that now more than ever before, he had a grasp of martial art and had even figured out his own fighting style and how to go about it.

So, no doubt, Raith was a hundred percent sure he could win against the soulless without having to even use any power of his [soul force]

And it was not cockiness... it was pure confidence. If one took his experience from battles and matched it together with the newly developed sense of combat... it wasn’t out of place for him to feel like that.

Raith sighed and folded his arm while looking at the soulless with a smug smile on his face.

"Are you going to accept or what?"

The brute soulless had a manly voice, that sort of matched the kind of face he wore but his tone ca out with a sharp degree of rudeness.

This one was not going to accept Raith the way others did and Raith had no issues with it.

"Fine. I should teach you a lesson or two..."

Raith said as he slowly stepped forward a little.

Hans frowned and quickly bowed behind Raith.

"I’m very sorry great one. Please if you let talk to him, I will–

But Raith interrupted him mid-sentence.

"No, don’t worry Hans. I’ll set him straight"

Hans gulped as he beheld Raith. The entire atmosphere around him had changed, his face was stern and cold, it made Hans tremble involuntarily.

The soulless reagent had no choice but to step back and gulp.

While the other soulless who had also just co did the sa.

"Ho ho ho, a duel between Reeves and the new guy"

The free spirited soulless jubilated as he gave space happily to see what was about to go down.

Reeves stood freely, or so it seems but Raith could tell. He narrowed his eyes as he observed the composer motionless stance of the young man.

Even though he seed to be standing freely, every position of his body was poised such that acting wouldn’t be too far... too far is a long word to use... perhaps instantaneous.

If he ran towards the guy first thing as the battle started, he would have been making a huge mistake and going head on into the guy’s trap. Of course, Raith would have never done that.

He had gained too much of a battle experience for him to make such loose decision. And like it or not, he was slowly becoming intelligent battlewise.

The two stayed a few monts in silence. Then Reeves clicked his tongue angrily and spoke.

"It seems you are no fluke after all..."

He also like Raith must have been acutely observing his opponent and the fact that he isn’t rushing in just like Raith wasn’t, proved that he was a battle-hardened warriror.

A man that had seen bloodshed, perhaps scaled through it.

But the wait had to stop one way or the other.

The place was shrouded in a deafening silence, the wind blew cautiously, unwillingly bent to the heaviness that waned between the two steeled warriors.

Both by the glance of it, were formidable beings that could make drench the wipe out a thousand soldiers with a terrifying steel in their hands... perhaps with bare hands.

Silence reigned between them for a few seconds more and at once, both of them disappeared, the ground beneath cracking and shattering into a series of shambles as both forces collided with each other less than a second later.

The entire atmosphere reverberated with a trendous force, the air seized and the floor shook.

Raith grinned like a madman.

While a horrific expression overwheld Reeves face. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

In the last millisecond before reaching Raith, he had brought out his sword and swung it at him. Only because he thought Raith was going to do the sa thing.

Not only did Raith block his attack with bare hands, but his fist seed to have cracked his sword.

"This sword was forged by an unbreakable tal... so how?"

He thought out subconsciously.

Raith grinned and clenched his second hand.

"Well, your blacksmith did a whack job!"

Raith’s fist hurtled through the air toward Reeves’ face. Reeves barely managed to jerk his head to the side, the blow just grazing his cheek as he stumbled back.

Quick as a viper, Raith pressed forward. He unleashed a barrage of strikes - jab, cross, hook - all in the spree of seconds - his concrete-like knuckles slamming brutally into Reeves’ forearms and ribs as Reeves desperately tried to shield himself.

The brute soulless countered with an upward diagonal slash - that Raith sidestepped, feeling the breeze as the blade narrowly missed carving through his jugular.

Seizing the split-second opening, Raith launched a spinning heel kick, his shin crunching sickeningly against the side of Reeves’ knee.

Howling in pain, Reeves crumpled to the ground. He gritted his teeth and looked up at Raith who pounced and rained down hamr fists on the vulnerable soulless.

Perhaps, Reeves sowhere in his mind thought that Raith was naturally going to yield at that point. Even he did not expect this white-haired man to go to such lengths.

Blood sprayed as Reeves’ face beca an oozing, swollen mass under Raith’s assault. Raith battered the soulless man in a skillful sequence of punches connecting from different angles and each hit squeezing out a sickening sound.

The sight of how Raith beat up the soulless made a bitter taste appear in the mouth of his comrades. They watched with a conflicted expression on their faces – even more so because a wicked grin was plastered on Raith’s face as he continued to puml this young man.

As if he enjoyed it. No, he undoubtedly enjoyed it.

They reminded him of days where he would go killing spree, dying and resurrecting, dying again and resurrecting.

In pure survival instinct, Reeves swept his sword in a wide horizontal arc, forcing Raith to bound backward.

Reeves clambered shakily to his feet, wheezing through pulverized ribs, arm hanging limp and useless.

That was when Raith realized how much of a damage he had done to the young man.

"Oh crap! Did I do that?"

Raith was honestly shocked, he gasped with his hands over his mouth, eyes staring shakily at Reeves.

Reeves in a bloodied state frowned so darkly and gritted his teeth. He had to admit, this young man here was stronger than him by leaps and bounds. Although he didn’t use aura and arts that are known only to the soulless.

...no, there was no excuse.

If this was a real fight, it was the sa he wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to use his arts and died by Raith’s hand. Besides he was sure, Raith also probably didn’t use his arts.

’Crap crap crap, I totally forgot my strength has increased a lot. Damn I thought I was holding back’

[You do a very bad job at holding back...]

’Yea thanks Sage, that is not helping at all.’

Raith looked around him. The whole surrounding was silent, tense... everybody was staring with strange expressions. Fear mixed with respect on their faces.

Raith didn’t know how to approach the situation and just turned back to Reeves.

"See... I’m really sorry. I held back a lot, I didn’t know you’d still be broken like this..."

Reeves struggled to shake his head. What happened in a few seconds surprised Raith.

The soulless’ broken bones began to rearrange itself. His wounds began to lt away into the air and in a couple of seconds, he was as good as when he had walked into the stronghold.

Raith raised a brow.

Imdiately Hans approached him, shouting:

"You are wonderful! I knew it! I knew I was never wrong about the great lord. Reeves is the second best warrior among the soulless and you manage to beat him without even trying! Isn’t it amazing people?!"

Imdiately Hans pitched the thought to them, they all began to mutter to each other. The expression on their faces lightened up as they began to talk about it.

"Wheew"

He sighed as the heaviness in the atmosphere disappeared. Then he belatedly looked at Hans.

"Wait second strongest? I thought this dude was the strongest around here?"

Hans froze. Then shook his head rigorously.

"No way..."

Raith chuckled annoyingly.

"In fact, at a point I even thought you were the strongest."

"No no, I am the strongest because I am the regent but in terms of combat power, they are really way prominent than I am."

Raith gritted his teeth.

’I swear this guy is fucking with .’

He swallowed his bitterness and decided to ask.

"So who is the strongest?"

"Oh... he’s been standing behind you the entire ti..."

At that mont, Raith’s eyes shot wide open.
