Now reading: Chapter 141: The Undersea Tower from Rogue Alpha's Sweet Trap, a Fantasy novel by macymori.

"Do you think you can bring us to the Night Sea in one go?" I asked Rion while he was drying my hair with a towel. It was the day we would go to the Undersea Tower, and the tower was located in the Night Sea on the western part of the continent.

Like the nights that had passed since we found out we were fated mates, I had been sleeping in his bedroom. We took a bath together early this morning to prepare for our little trip. He seed to have taken a liking to drying my hair whenever we bathed.

"I can’t just drop us in the Night Sea, but I can try getting us to the farthest side of the western part of the continent. From there, we can go to the Night Sea on foot."

I nodded, my eyes narrowing. I had never been to the western part of the continent, let alone the infamous Night Sea. It was said to be a sea as black as night even in the dayti and extrely dangerous for ordinary people because it was protected by ancient wards.

"You seem too calm even when you know the Night Sea is a very dangerous place," I told him while looking at his face in the mirror.

He was standing behind while I sat in front of the dressing table. He didn’t have a dressing table in the past, but when I started sleeping in his chamber, I requested one. He didn’t seem to mind my requests.

"I heard there are ancient wards protecting it. Do you have any idea how we can break into them?" I added.

Rion smirked at . "Just leave it to ."

***

My jaw dropped after what I witnessed.

How did Rion do that?

Yes, he didn’t bring up how to break through the wards of the Night Sea at all. I thought he had so smart trick up his sleeves, but I didn’t think it would be this easy.

In the western part of the continent, to get to the Night Sea, we had to enter a big and long cave. When we ca out of the cave, we found ourselves on a seashore. The sky was misty, and beyond us was an endless black sea. But we couldn’t even touch the sea because of the wards shielding it from anyone.

I thought it wouldn’t be easy to break the wards.

But Rion just cut his palm and let his shadows carry his blood to the wards, and they opened.

"Woah," Ares had the sa reaction as .

It seed Rion hadn’t told anyone about this. When he found my mouth agape, he smirked proudly.

"What’s happening? How did you do that?"

"That’s why you seed so cool about it! I thought you had so grand sche or sothing, but it turns out your blood is the answer to it?" Ares shook his head in disbelief.

"As you’ve heard, the clan I co from is one of the oldest werewolf clans. But most people don’t know that it’s one of the founding clans on the continent, and one of those who built the wards here in the Night Sea. I don’t know if there are others out there whose blood can open the wards, but I am one of them," Rion said.

I was once again amazed by his abilities. The more ti I spent with him as my mate and Alpha, the more things I discovered about him.

"Wow. You’re soooo cool, Alpha! I didn’t even know there are people who can break the wards here as easily as that," Ares said. "I figured the information must have been kept within the founding families."

I nodded. "That explains it."

"So you shouldn’t tell this to outsiders," Rion said playfully, putting his index finger on his lips.

Ares gave him a teasing bow. "Fret not. You’ll always have my loyalty, Alpha."

"Alright. Let’s not waste ti." Rion offered his hand to .

I took his hand, and he led toward the dark sea ahead. When his foot touched the water, floating stone steps appeared. Far beyond the steps was a small tower in the middle of the sea. It was the tower connected to the Undersea Tower, which would only appear once the wards opened to its visitors.

Once we got past the wards, they knitted closed.

The Night Sea, I realized, was colder than I expected. From what I’d read in books, I thought it would be as cold as winter, but it was colder than the usual winter in Levian lands. Thankfully, Rion had advised beforehand to wear a thick coat over my clothes.

When we reached the end of the stone steps, a double door stood before us. It opened automatically. I gasped at the darkness inside, but as soon as we stepped in, candles lit up in the corners. There wasn’t much inside, but the highlight was the staircase at the center of the tower.

The entrance of the staircase held a different kind of glow. Strange lights shifted and moved around it, proving the presence of strong wards. It was the only way to the Undersea Tower.

"I suppose the magic of your blood can’t be used here?" Ares asked.

"If he knew it was possible, we wouldn’t be bringing the keys here," I said.

"Yes. The wards in the Undersea Tower are different from the wards of the Night Sea. That’s why we need the keys."

"But how do we use the keys?"

Ares opened the big bag he had been carrying. It contained the four keys: the Bone Light, Millow Shade, Angel’s Harp, and Moon’s Bloom. The fifth was , the sixth was Rion, and the seventh was my lightning.

Rion held the Book of Keys in front of us. He stepped forward, closer to the staircase. Ares and I followed him.

As Rion lifted the book above the staircase entrance, the cover brightened and marks began to appear.

Seven marks appeared, each identical to the marks glowing around the staircase’s entrance.
