"You did not have to do that."

His words echoed like thunder in her ears.

Instead of replying, Lexie just decided to shake her head while grimacing in pain.

Even she herself was surprised at the absurd action she made. At that ti, seeing that Desther was about to be ambushed, her body moved on its own, rushing to save him with her new skill despite knowing that he might actually be capable of dodging that on his own.

Nevertheless, the realization ca in too late, confird by Desther’s earlier words himself.

There was nothing she could do about it.

Her body reacted before her mind could, making her use her new skill to rush forward and block the monster’s ambush.

She just did not expect that its attack would feel that heavy and hard.

Most of the attack force was even already neutralized by the sword she had coated in lightning.

Fortunately, Desther was there to catch her flying body. Else, the injury she sustained might have been worse than it was now.

anwhile, the Shadow Monster retreated a few ters away, standing still as if weighing its options after its ambush failed.

Desther finally turned his body around, catching a glimpse of the Shadow Monster’s form for the first ti.

Lexie had described it before as just a shadow moving on the ground, phasing in and out of solid objects with no obstruction.

However, the one before Desther was clearly different, at the very least, from what he had imagined it would look like.

The Shadow Monster literally looked like a shadow in 3D form. It stood like a humanoid creature, its height about one hundred seventy-seven centiters, or five feet eight, with an extrely thin body fra, standing with a hunchback in such an awkward posture that it seed unnatural to the sight.

It has long, slender arms that extend all the way to the ground and elongated, sharp claws extended out, threatening to tear the air apart.

Its entire body was black, as if it were the manifestation of shadow itself.

The Shadow Monster stood a few ters away in silent deliberation. Although there were no eyes on its supposed head, Desther could feel that it was now staring at him and Lexie with intense curiosity and perhaps silent rage.

Beside him, Lexie clutched her side and used the tree bark as a support to stand up. She managed to do so, albeit with difficulty.

"That’s it. Although it was in a different form before, I could not be mistaken. I had the sa feeling back then when it attacked ."

She muttered. Although injured, she still held her sword firmly in her hand, as if she was prepared to duke it out with the Shadow Monster if need be.

Desther nodded his head in acknowledgent.

The aura of the monster also evoked a sense of familiarity for him. He was positive that this was indeed the monster that they were looking for.

"Just stay here obediently, let handle this!"

His voice was calm yet full of steady authority. This was the first ti that he had uttered such commanding words that even Lexie herself felt that she was hearing things.

His words, though, cause her to frown. She felt as if Desther was looking down on her.

Well, he indeed has the capability to look down at her due to his strength, but it still stings her heart that she was being looked down on, especially by Desther at that.

Since the existence of Awakened Professionals was announced, she had begun to train herself, hoping to beco one of them in the future.

She prided herself not only for her ethics, but also for the fact that she was considered a genius by many.

She absorbs her martial lessons with ease, acing written exams as if they were nothing. She studied and practiced her martial arts, day in and day out.

All for the goal that she strived to accomplish.

To be a strong awakener that does not rely on the so-called family resources.

The sa family resources that prompted her big sister to leave the world for good.

And now that she had awakened, instead of finding herself strong enough to contend anyone within her class, she now finds herself being sheltered, and ordered to stay out of battle.

However, she wanted to battle. She wanted to prove to him and to herself that she was not a weakling.

"Why are you making that face?"

Desther’s voice pulled her back from her internal thoughts.

"You do realize that you are heavily injured, right?"

Hearing that, Lexie puffed her cheeks as she looked to the side, avoiding his gaze.

Desther could only shake his head in amusent after seeing her reaction.

Unlike other girls, Desther could actually tell that she was a strong-willed girl, soone that loved to fight.

This beca apparent when Desther learned that she decided to co to the valley alone, not to earn points, but to experience battle to hone and improve herself.

However, this was already a different matter altogether. With her present injury, her battle prowess would surely dwindle to the lowest.

If the Shadow Monster capitalized on it, there was a high chance that she would sustain even more injuries, or worse, even perish at the hand of it.

"Don’t worry; as I said, I’ll handle this," Desther stated confidently as his gaze shifted once more to the Shadow Monster a few ters away.

"Fine!"

Lexie resigned to her fate, knowing that joining the fight would be akin to suicide by this point.

After all, she experienced the strength of that Shadow Monster firsthand, and although it was a hard pill to swallow, she knew that the gap between their raw attributes was not sothing that could easily be bridged just because of her S-Grade Talent and an equally monstrous Class she just obtained.

Anyway, Desther promised that he would handle the monster.

She knew that he would not say sothing without being sure of it, so she put all her trust toward him at this mont.

She could not help but wonder if this Desther would finally be pushed to his limits in this fight.

Her mind wandered about when she rembered sothing worthy of his attention.

"If you have an elental attack, try to use it. It seems to be effective toward it."
