Chapter 987: Meeting His Soon to be Mother-In-Law
“I understand.” He nodded in understanding after a moment, then opened the box, took out the Golden Spirit Fruit the size of a normal walnut and threw it in his mouth.
Bang!
As soon as he chewed it, it exploded into a large stream of energy, filling his mouth, throat, nostrils and stomach.
Rumble!
Immediately, the trace of Garfield Bloodline within his blood stirred like a starved lion waking up from deep sleep. It emitted a powerful suction force and instantly, all the energy was sucked into his blood.
‘Damn, that scared me.’ Max’s heart had stopped beating when the fruit exploded all of a sudden. For a moment, he had thought the overwhelming energy would make him explode.
A moment later, he instinctively wanted to use his Bloodline Sense to check the state of his Garfield Bloodline, then he remembered he wasn’t able to use it which made him shake his head helplessly.
He waited for a while, hoping to feel any changes after his bloodline was finished digesting the energy but even after half an hour, he felt no change apart from that he was no longer able to feel the Garfield Bloodline in his blood.
Creak!
Right then, someone carefully opened the door.
Max glanced over and saw it was Nie Haolong.
“Oh, you are done already?” Nie Haolong asked in surprise while glancing at the now empty box. He then said, “Good. We have finished cooking too. e, let’s go and eat.”
While saying this, he walked over and picked up the box, “I found both the book and fruit in it. It mustn’t be an ordinary wooden box. I’ll see if I can sell it for some money.”
“Ahh…”
Max didn’t say anything and was about to stand up when he heard his startled cry and saw him flung the box away.
He glanced at the box and saw it had caught fire. A moment later, flames disappeared and all that remained were ashes.
“What just happened?” Nie Haolong muttered in shock.
“Since its work was done, it erased itself from existence.” Max thoughtfully said, then he sighed.
Whoever this Inheritance belonged to had gone to great lengths to make sure the Inheritor would remain undetected but something seemed to have gone wrong as even though the Book and the Box were erased, people had still found out that someone had received the inheritance.
Nie Haolong dumbly nodded, then he glanced at him and suddenly noticed the absence of the golden book and asked, “Where is the book?”
“It disintegrated and vanished.” Max answered straightforwardly, then watched him.
Nie Haolong was stunned then a hint of regret and envy flashed in his eyes as he said, “It seemed you got a good deal.”
“That I did.” Max nodded, then he walked over and slung his hand around his shoulder, “But don’t you worry, I won’t shortchange you.”
Nie Haolong rolled his eyes, then chuckled, “If you did that, you would be the worst brother-in-law in existence.”
Max’s expression became a bit awkward and this made Nie Haolong laugh even more and tease, “Tell me honestly, you have liked my sister for a long time, right?”
Instead of answering, Max squeezed his neck. When Nie Haolong began struggling, he said, “Are you going to quit teasing me now?”
“Yes, yes. I won’t tease you anymore… Brother-in-law.” Nie Haolong smirked which made Max shake his head. He then released him and they walked out of the room and arrived in the living room where Nie Xiaolu had already placed a clean mattress on the floor and put a few piping hot dishes on it.
Seeing them, she smiled, “Haolong, Brother Chen… e let’s eat.”
The duo nodded and took their seats on the mattress. Xiaolu served them before sitting down herself.
Unlike what Max had expected, both the brother and sister conversed like nothing significant had happened, and Nie Haolong made several jokes.
Slowly, Max found the awkwardness he was feeling for marrying his best friend’s sister fading and he also began laughing and talking along with them. The atmosphere was very harmonious and joyous.
Not long after, Max and Nie Haolong finished eating their share while Nie Xiaolu wasn’t even halfway done.
Not wanting to keep them waiting for her, she was about to stop but Max told her to not mind them and finish her meal.
After a while, she was done and they stood up together.
“Sister, I’ll take my brother-in-law to meet mother.” Nie Haolong told Xiaolu with a smile on his face. Unlike Max, Nie Xiaolu didn’t feel awkward or embarrassed and calmly nodded, “Yeah, go ahead.”
In the years since they became friends, Gu Chen had visited their home dozens of times but he had only seen their mother just two times.
It wasn’t because he didn’t want to meet and greet her when he came over but because their mother didn’t feel fortable seeing anyone in her condition.
Outside her room, Nie Haolong stopped, took a deep breath and gently knocked on the door two times before he slowly pushed open the door while announcing in a low voice, “Mother, see who has e to meet you.”
As Max walked in, he saw their mother, Zhuo Yue, and immediately a sense of pity arose in his heart.
She was lying in her bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze with her bloodshot eyes. Her hands and feet tied to the bedposts. Max could see the dark purple bruises on her wrists and ankles, caused by her struggle when her Yin Energy flared up and caused her pain.
He also noticed a thin layer of blue frost around her and noticed that her previously half black, half snowy white hair were now pletely snowy white.
After the momentary pity, he immediately felt a strong attraction towards her and the desire to possess her surged in his heart.
This didn’t surprise Max.
Every part of Zhuo Yue’s body was densely packed with Pure Yin Energy and he could tell it was even purer than Nie Xiaolu’s Pure Yin Energy. If someone like her couldn’t attract him, then he wouldn’t be the true inheritor of Lust Overlord Bloodline.
‘She is… beautiful.’ His eyes blazed with greed and desire. It was as if he wasn’t looking at his best friend’s mother and his soon to be mother-in-law, but an incredibly precious treasure.
