When the first ray of sunlight broke through the darkness and illuminated the horizon, the day ca, and the vast mountains beca lively. Birds flew over the forest and perched on branches, calling out to each other and singing. A few monkeys curiously jumped around, chattering, biting into a wild fruit and throwing it down. The forest breathed a bustling yet harmonious atmosphere.
Under the forest, a team quietly sat on the ground resting, wearing camouflage suits, chewing on dry rations while wiping their weapons. Silent and speechless, yet exuding an invisible morale, it was Luo Zheng and others who had retreated overnight without knowing how far they had traveled. There were no signs of enemy pursuit from behind, so everyone rested here.
On the way of retreat, Luo Zheng had already contacted other troops and learned the battle results. Last night's battle was ticulously planned, and luck was on their side. Not a single life was lost, only a few people got scratched, which wasn't a big problem. They had already shaken off the pursuers and were hiding in a safe place to rest before heading to the prearranged location after dawn.
Suddenly, Lan Xing's voice sounded in the earpiece: "We can start satellite monitoring of the enemy missile base. There was indeed an issue. It was too dark last night, uncertain, and since you were retreating, we didn't disturb you. Now it's completely confird."
"So last night's efforts weren't in vain?" Luo Zheng asked softly. "Closely monitor every move of the enemy, figure out the troop deploynt, and find a safe route for infiltration. We're running out of ti. Once the enemy's signal interference is repaired, we'll be blind once more."
"Understood," Lan Xing quickly agreed.
"Notify us imdiately if there are any developnts. Additionally, keep a close watch on enemy pursuit. We've discovered Jackson and Shijing Ye; these two aren't simple. They must have support nearby, so don't be careless," Luo Zheng continued instructing while looking at Lan Xue, who shook her head, indicating there was nothing she needed to add.
After the call ended, the team continued to rest.
Inside the missile base of Yue Country, a spacious cavern was brightly lit. A base terrain map was hanging on the cave wall with a military desk placed in the center, surrounded by several people seated. At the head was a Lieutenant General, in his fifties, appearing vigorous, with a stern face, dressed in a fitting General's uniform, emanating an aura of imposing authority and murderous intent. This was Lieutenant General Wu Dinghe, the highest commander at the base.
On Wu Dinghe's left sat Jackson, who had a sullen face while looking at the terrain map on the wall. A Major rank operational advisor was explaining the terrain situation and troop deploynt. On Wu Dinghe's right was Shijing Ye, still dressed as a Ninja, with eyes flashing with fierce light, his whole body exuding a coldness. Last night Luo Zheng impersonated a Ninja to attack the radar array at Tian Keng, which embarrassed Shijing Ye.
Additionally, there were two Major Generals and three Colonels, all high-ranking officers of authority. Everyone listened indifferently to the operational advisor analyzing the situation, with nobody interrupting. After explaining the terrain and deploynt situation, the operational advisor glanced at Lieutenant General Wu Dinghe, who nodded. The operational advisor cleared his throat and continued, "All of you, last night the enemy adopted deceptive tactics. First, they blew up our supply trucks and destroyed our food, then ambushed our support troops. One hundred thirty-five soldiers died heroically."
Upon hearing this, everyone's mood grew heavy. They looked at Wu Dinghe, who was expressionless, and still, no one spoke. The operational advisor continued, "After that, a small contingent stealthily attacked the command post on the southern ridges, using bombs to detonate tunnels inside the command post. Two explosions caused 380 people to die heroically and 220 were injured."
Everyone's expressions turned gloomy and seed about to drip water; such significant losses were everyone's responsibility, how could they explain it to their country? Everyone, with a stern face, continued listening.
"We don't even know how many enemies were in that contingent, nor how they departed. Even worse, soone impersonated our friendly forces, infiltrated near the Tian Keng, and destroyed our radar array with unknown weapons. Repairs will take at least a month, and that's if the equipnt is intact," the operational advisor continued.
"Humiliation, indignity!" Lieutenant General Wu Dinghe roared almost in a fury after the operational advisor finished speaking. "Last night's battle resulted in 510 brave souls sacrificing for our country, 220 severely injured, so critical, without tily treatnt, the death list will expand. This is my sha, your sha, and the nation's sha. So, what should be done?"
"Revenge," everyone shouted, anger and murder intent erupted, seemingly igniting the surrounding air.
"Yes, revenge. Only the enemy's blood can cleanse this humiliation. I have reported to the Military Departnt, and they will dispatch technical personnel imdiately to assist in restoring the radar array, but revenge must be carried out by us personally. Furthermore, I refused the Military Departnt's proposal to deploy helicopters in combat; our vendetta must be avenged personally. Otherwise, neither you nor I will have the face to bear the national emblem, betraying the people's trust. I order you to bring the enemy's heads back to ," Wu Dinghe said fiercely.
"Yes," everyone rose, shouting angrily.
"Excuse , General, may I interrupt?" Jackson said coldly, looking at Wu Dinghe.
"Mr. Jackson, you are the military advisor dispatched by our allies, speak up," Wu Dinghe took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, then said politely, his grim face softened a bit.
"General, you are too courteous. Regarding the enemy, I would like to ask, how well do you understand them?" Jackson said coldly. His words were polite, but his expression was anything but. Seeing everyone silent, Jackson glanced at Shijing Ye and continued, "I am well acquainted with the enemy and understand your desire for revenge. I do not oppose revenge; on the contrary, I fully support it. However, we must be strategic; blindly pursuing the enemy will only lead to being picked off one by one. It's not to demoralize you, questioning your military capability, rather I am acutely aware of the enemy's strength."
"What do you an?" Wu Dinghe asked sowhat displeased.
"What I an is, we need not pursue; the enemy will co again. We rely need to set up the Sky Net and wait," Jackson said confidently. After several encounters, Jackson understood Luo Zheng's thods well, predicting Luo Zheng would certainly return, believing Luo Zheng's efforts couldn't be for just the radar array, but more likely the strategic missiles inside the cave.
"What if they don't co back? Wouldn't that be a missed opportunity for revenge?" a Major General said with a stern face.
"What is our greatest strategic value here?" Jackson looked at him mockingly, clearly taunting, and continued, "It's the missiles inside the cave, not the radar array. Do you think the enemy only wants to destroy the radar array? If you leave, the base will be defenseless, perfectly falling into the enemy's trap."
"Makes sense, continue," Wu Dinghe said loudly, his cold gaze flashing a hint of caution.
"The Sky Net," Jackson said coldly, sending chills across the room.
