At dawn the next day, the red sun leapt over the horizon, the first ray of sunlight dispelling the vast shroud of night, casting golden beams down, illuminating the earth, spreading over the canopy of the ancient forest. Countless birds and beasts began to chirp and frolic, adding a hint of life to the prehistoric woods.
Near the unnoticed entrance of a valley within dense woods, an unusual troop was marching. Almost a hundred people in military uniforms were strung together, forming a disordered line, trudging forward despondently, their heads hanging low, faces pale, eyes filled with despair.
The ones escorting the troop were the opposite, fully ard, carrying seized weapons and ammunition, brimming with excitent. However, their eyes flickered with alertness, occasionally glancing around. The ones leading were draped in camouflage suits, squatting under trees, resembling a thicket, their dark faces with bright, piercing eyes were sharp and steadfast.
A group at the back of the troop walked leisurely, occasionally exchanging words, each brimming with energy, exuding a confident murderous aura with every step. Among them was Luo Zheng, with Lan Xue, as always, beside him, listening to Luo Zheng chat and laugh with Shadow, Drunkard, and Snow Fox, while vigilantly observing the surroundings.
"The entrance is just ahead; the enemy aircraft has retreated, seems like their satellite has locked onto us. But it doesn't matter; the valley's location is exposed anyway. When we get back, I must have a good al; there's plenty of wild ga here." Shadow remarked with a sigh, looking ahead.
"Brother, do you have any plans for rescuing Ghost Hand and others?" Drunkard impatiently inquired.
"Give a sip." Luo Zheng didn't imdiately answer Drunkard's question, instead asking for a drink. Drunkard didn't mind, and handed over a flask from his pocket. Luo Zheng knew Drunkard's alcohol was potent. After taking a sip, he felt a warmth rush up from his belly, eliminating his fatigue. Returning the flask, he looked towards the direction of the valley and said, "Let's go, we'll talk in the valley."
"You sneaky kid, laying a trap for ." Drunkard jokingly cursed, stowing away the flask, and shouted to the people around, "Brothers, hurry up, let's have a proper al in the valley, we haven't eaten well for two days, I'm starving, everyone stay spirited."
Luo Zheng paused, rembering that Shadow and the others held the rear in the last battle, diverting enemy helicopters, which was undoubtedly fraught with danger. In addition, they had to evade pursuit and could not rest properly all night. Another fight with the enemy last night also left them unrested, not to ntion eating, causing him to smile wryly in embarrassnt. He said, "Later, I'll have Hook arrange so good food to reward you all."
"Aren't you going to thank the chief commander?" Shadow teased when he saw everyone remain silent.
"Thank you, Chief Commander." Everyone replied with a knowing smile.
"Are you trying to embarrass ?" Luo Zheng playfully glared at Shadow, then smiled himself, albeit with a hint of bitterness. The brothers bled and sacrificed due to his orders, yet he couldn't alleviate their burdens, indeed a dereliction of duty, and he walked forward with the troop.
Soon, news ca from upfront, Hook had brought people to welco them. Luo Zheng and others quickened their pace towards them and arrived at the canyon entrance to see Hook conversing with Mountain Eagle. The entrance had been fortified, with two dark fortresses on either side, trenches dug in underground, over five ters wide. Luo Zheng, surprised, approached and greeted Hook before checking the trenches, which were over five ters deep, perpendicular to the passageway.
"What does this an?" Luo Zheng inquired puzzledly to Captain Li, who walked over.
"This is a death line. Although the mountains and dense forests here prevent the enemy's vehicles and tanks from advancing, this trench can still slow their charge. Five ters wide, five ters deep, connecting the mountain ridges on both sides, with dark fortresses accommodating about fifty soldiers, equipped with heavy machine guns and RPGs, could hold off the enemy's advance. Crossing this trench would cost them lives." Captain Li proudly explained.
"Good idea." Luo Zheng brightened up, wholly praising, "Five ters wide, the enemy can't jump over directly, five ters deep, difficult to climb out if they jump in. A trench alone could keep the enemy at bay unless they flank from the sides, where there are dark fortresses to handle them. But what if the enemy cuts trees to build bridges?"
"It's simple, a hundred ters past here is another trench capable of ambushing about fifty people, setting up heavy machine guns. If the enemy dares to charge, the people inside the trench can unleash hell on them. This trench is two ters deep with a reverse slope dug to create a Hidden Soldier Cave, avoiding enemy shellfire. RPGs can be stationed inside for any helicopters the enemy sends." Captain Li confidently stated.
"Good." Luo Zheng excitedly laughed, impressed by Captain Li's engineering skills. Indeed, not an ordinary rank to hold as captain. The simple plan effectively maximized the Hook Tribe's Ard advantages, compensated for the shortcomings, and kept the enemy outside. Overcoming this defense would indeed cost lives.
"You're not bad yourself, capturing so many prisoners overnight." Captain Li admired.
"Hook." distracted by the trenches, Luo Zheng turned to Hook after being reminded by Captain Li and said, "Please arrange so food for my brothers, they need a good al and so rest, I'm counting on you."
"Why are you being so polite?" Hook agreed readily, quickly calling soone over and instructing them. The person led Shadow and others away, heading into the valley.
Luo Zheng glanced at the captives, thinking the enemy could be here anyti, then had a flash of inspiration and suggested to Captain Li, "Set up so stakes and tie these people all up, with the stakes placed in the open space between the two trenches. Hang grenades on them with ropes leading to the trench that can be pulled to detonate. I think the enemy is coming soon." As he spoke, he looked up at the sky, the dawn glow spreading, the sun flaming red, a rare fine weather indeed.
"Understood." Captain Li wholeheartedly agreed.
Hook, understanding the situation, also had people start helping. A few minutes later, ten stakes were driven into the ground in the open space between the two trenches, each tied with ten people, securely bound with special ropes, and grenades hung on them, with strings leading to the rear trench.
"The ti has co." Luo Zheng looked skyward, pondering and silently praying, "Brothers, you must hold on. It won't be long before we can rescue you, stay strong."
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" Suddenly, the sound of ard helicopters' rumbling could faintly be heard from the sky. Everyone's expression subtly changed as they looked up, their eyes filled with endless battle intent.
