The assassin brazenly opened fire, taking extre asures which made Luo Zheng wary. This was no longer a simple espionage battle; espionage is typically conducted in secrecy, without easy exposure. Why would these people risk exposure just to assassinate a fisherman? What's the conspiracy behind this? Upon hearing Shi Feng's questioning, Luo Zheng gave a bitter smile and said, "I'm afraid all we can do is wait; let's head back."
"Abandoning it here?" Shi Feng asked curiously.
"Yes, let's abandon it. Even if we investigate, we won't find any leads. The enemy agents are skilled at hiding and have legitimate identities, so there's no need to waste police force and energy here. Everyone retreat to the police station, we're also leaving. Tonight will likely be a sleepless night," Luo Zheng suggested.
"Wrap it up," Shi Feng issued the command to withdraw. He and Luo Zheng left the café and headed outside the airport, got into Shi Feng's off-road vehicle, and drove towards the city bureau.
Along the way, Shi Feng continuously contacted his team via earpiece to understand the situation's progress. Luo Zheng also had his earpiece and could hear the team's communications, but he didn't voice any opinions; he was deep in thought as things appeared increasingly peculiar. Why would soone try to assassinate a fisherman? Could it be that the assailant is the real killer, and the theft wasn't related to them? Are the stolen items still with the thief, or is there more to it?
Luo Zheng analyzed various doubts along the way and unknowingly arrived at the city bureau. In the reception room, he saw the fisherman, who appeared honest but his eyes were filled with panic. Shi Feng approached him and asked, "Where's the injured colleague?"
"They've already been sent to the hospital," another officer responsible for escorting the fisherman quickly explained.
"Officer, that policeman got shot saving , he's a good person, will he be alright? What exactly happened?" The fisherman asked urgently.
"It's alright, settle down here first and assist us with the investigation; it won't be a problem." Shi Feng could tell the fisherman was genuinely honest, not like the thieving criminal, and reassured him with a few words before looking at Luo Zheng, who nodded. Shi Feng understood and said to those around, "Arrange protection for him. The rest return to your posts; tonight will likely be another overti night. Quickly ascertain the assassin's identity. What's the status of the fleeing assassin?"
"We're investigating. That fleeing assassin is still at large; the ard police are pursuing him, it shouldn't be a big issue," the head of the serious cris unit quickly replied.
Suddenly, an earpiece voice sounded: "City bureau, this is the Ard Police Action Team. The suspect resisted with a gun, capsized at high speed, and died. Awaiting instructions."
"What? Died?" Shi Feng exclaid in shock, looking at the head of the serious cris unit and said, "Send people to check, bring the body back, we must find out their identity quickly, be careful there might be accomplices of the assassin."
"Yes," the cri unit head promptly agreed.
"Get the kitchen to prepare so food and send two portions to my office," Shi Feng instructed.
"Yes," everyone replied and dispersed.
Luo Zheng followed Shi Feng to the office and sat down. Shi Feng said urgently, "The situation is getting more complicated, leads are breaking everywhere, and troubles keep coming. These damned ones, they actually dared to use guns openly; if they're not special agents, they're assassins; ordinary people wouldn't dare do this. Your analysis was correct; just, how do we respond next?"
"We'll see, best to identify the assassin's identity," Luo Zheng said in contemplation. The situation had reached this point, and he couldn't think of a better solution, falling into deep thought.
Shi Feng also fell into contemplation, and after a while, soone brought supper. Luo Zheng took it unceremoniously and started eating; after a while, the phone in Shi Feng's office rang. He set down his supper, went over to pick it up and said, "This is Shi Feng. Who is calling?"
Listening for a while, Shi Feng's face changed drastically, he frowned and said, "Okay, I'm coming over." Then he hung up.
"What happened?" Luo Zheng asked curiously.
"Soone who claims to be a thief wants to et both of us. It's normal for them to know , but how do they know you?" Shi Feng said with suspicion.
"Oh? Interesting, it seems the situation is sowhat akin to my guess," Luo Zheng laughed instead, seeing Shi Feng puzzled, he explained, "This person should be the assassin, who for so reason stole the Heavenly Pearl, but couldn't hand it over to another group, that is, those who committed the airport assault. As a result, the fisherman appeared; after the airport assault, the thief wants to strike a deal with us for so reason."
"No mistake, you are really extraordinary. I haven't managed to inform you, but you've already guessed it. That's amazing; indeed, the person ntioned on the phone that there's a deal they want to discuss with us, if agreed upon, the Heavenly Pearl returns, otherwise, it gets crushed. Looks like there's more to this story; let's go and et them," Shi Feng said with astonishnt, looking at Luo Zheng with admiration.
"Let's go," Luo Zheng replied indifferently with a smile.
The two left the office, heading to the parking lot outside the city bureau, and drove off in Shi Feng's off-road car without bringing anyone along, as requested by the contact. Both were skilled and brave, fearing not any adversary. The off-road vehicle sped for a while towards the city's outskirts, unwittingly arriving at a path in the suburbs.
A few minutes later, the off-road vehicle stopped at a middle school gate. The school was on holiday with no one present, only a guard at the gate. Shi Feng showed his credentials, and the guard quickly opened the gate with a suspicious look at Shi Feng and Luo Zheng, not understanding what was going on. Shi Feng didn't bother to explain and asked, "Which office is the principal's?"
The guard thought it was a confidential investigation and dared not to ask further, promptly pointing the way. Shi Feng led Luo Zheng towards an office building, due to the holiday, the building was empty and all the lights were off. Shi Feng saw a switch at the staircase entrance, turned on the lights and ascended. Each floor's staircase had a switch, turned on and lit; they continued upward and unknowingly arrived at the fifth floor.
After turning on the lights, Shi Feng was about to draw his gun when Luo Zheng held his arm and shook his head. Luo Zheng darted forward, heading towards the principal's office. Shi Feng followed closely, arriving at the office door, finding it pitch black inside. Luo Zheng knocked on the door, and said in a deep voice, "Friends, we're here, open the door."
"Courageous, co in yourself," a man's voice sounded from the dark room. The voice was steady and calm, without a hint of panic, indicating high psychological resilience, followed by a sudden burst of lights.
Luo Zheng gave Shi Feng a look, signaling not to draw his gun yet as the invitation was risky but likely without malice for the mont. Shi Feng understood, nodded, and Luo Zheng looked toward the window's light. Once his eyes adapted to the brightness, he pushed open the door, remaining vigilant at the entry, gaze fixed inside.
