Ten minutes later, Luo Zheng looked at the anxious Hook and others, couldn't help but laugh. Everyone also laughed heartily, sweeping away the tense and solemn atmosphere of the battlefield. After fighting like this, everyone was utterly exhilarated. Seeing that the ti was ripe, Luo Zheng gave an order. Everyone moved the sandbags away and scattered to avoid being hard by the Poison Smoke.
After waiting for about half an hour, the Poison Smoke in the underground base had dissipated quite a bit. Luo Zheng grabbed the anxious Hook and said, "Have everyone wait a bit longer, don't rush. I will go down first. You have the things we're looking for, don't damage them. Otherwise, no one will survive, understand?"
Hook nodded, half understanding, but didn't oppose. Luo Zheng glanced at Lan Xue, Ghost Hand, and others. Everyone took anti-poison masks out of their backpacks, put them on, and descended the steel staircase leading to the entrance. The staircase was quite long, and when everyone reached the bottom, they saw soldiers lying unconscious all over the floor. The basent was large, like a warehouse, brightly lit, with lots of equipnt, as well as so people in white lab coats, also lying on the ground.
Luo Zheng gestured cautiously, raised his gun, and walked further inside. He saw many small rooms, kicked open one of them, finding a small office with soone slumped in an office chair, unconscious. The group then checked other rooms — either offices or small research labs. Luo Zheng couldn't understand and didn't know which ones were used to research the poison.
While they were worrying, Ghost Hand called out, "Quick, co take a look."
Everyone ran over and saw that the middle of the basent was recessed with steps leading down. The sunken space was about half the size of a basketball court, covered with various equipnt flashing red and green lights — incomprehensible, with so containing various colored substances under glass dos, also unknown.
Lan Xue ca over, looked for a while, and said, "Not only are they researching the toxin we're looking for, but they're definitely researching other things too. Never mind, burn it all. Everyone look for sothing fireproof."
"Understood," everyone responded. Soon, they found a large generator room with lots of diesel stored inside, and two diesel generator sets that were the power source for the basent. Luo Zheng's eyes brightened, and he quickly moved into action.
After about ten minutes, barrels of diesel were carried out and splashed over the research equipnt. Diesel was spread all over the floor, leading up to the underground entrance. When all was ready, Luo Zheng smiled and said, "All right, let's evacuate."
After leaving the underground base and getting to the surface, Luo Zheng saw the anxiously waiting Hook, pointed to the underground entrance, and said, "Everyone inside has fainted, and there is a lot of research equipnt. They are researching poison, and I'm worried your n might break the equipnt if they go down. If the poison gas spreads, no one will be able to run. We've spread diesel around, so use your gun."
Hook was startled, but then he understood and looked at Luo Zheng gratefully. He worked his rifle bolt, and shouted sothing in a babble to his equally impatient companions. The tribal warriors shouted with excitent, all retreating. Luo Zheng was relieved to see this scene and reminded, "There's a lot of ammunition down there, once ignited, this place will collapse. It's best to move farther away."
Hook responded, told everyone to retreat further, and Luo Zheng and his party moved aside, leaving only Hook standing at the entrance, aiming his gun downward, shouting sothing agitatedly. Just then, Luo Zheng noticed all the natives kneeling, shouting sothing in unison, chanting in a well-coordinated manner.
"Guys, are they praying to their ancestors?" Snow Leopard asked curiously.
"Most likely," Ghost Hand said with a laugh.
"If I understood their language, would I be asking you?" Snow Leopard retorted irritably.
Everyone shared a knowing smile, waiting patiently. About three minutes passed, all the natives stood up, looking solemnly at Hook. Hook shouted sothing, opened fire on the underground entrance, and the bullets ignited the spilled diesel. Flas burst forth instantly, and Hook turned and ran like mad.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" Soon, everyone heard the muffled sounds of explosions coming from the basent, knowing that the grenades had been detonated. Hook sped up his pace as the explosions grew more intense, billowing smoke pouring out of the entrance. Hook sprinted down and joined everyone, looking back excitedly with a thrill on his face.
"Burn, explode," Hook shouted excitedly, his emotions exceptionally stirred.
Just then, a red sun rose above the horizon, dispelling the darkness and illuminating the earth. The sunrise, fiery like a blaze, cast its light on everyone, warming faces and softening moods. Before long, the ground itself felt hot, and everyone instinctively stepped back again.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" After a short while, several earth-shattering explosions resounded, shaking the ground beneath them. Everyone retreated further away as they watched the level ground begin to sink. Luo Zheng breathed a sigh of relief and smiled. The mission was finally complete. With such massive explosions and intense flas, he believed that all the toxins must have been incinerated, right?
"The sun is out, it's dawn," Lan Xue exhaled heavily and spoke softly.
"Yes, dawn has broken," Luo Zheng said, watching the sun, his words carrying a double aning.
"I hope life will be better for these natives," Ghost Hand said with a sigh as he gazed at the sun.
"We've done what we could, we have nothing to be ashad of," Mountain Eagle also spoke with a sense of reverence.
"It's ti to go back," Snow Leopard said with a somber tone.
Everyone looked toward Lan Xue, who nodded. She took out the sealed satellite phone from her backpack, installed the battery, dialed a string of numbers, and after sending the signal, and turned off the phone. She then removed the battery, placed the phone into a sealed bag, and, after making sure everything was packed away, she glanced at Luo Zheng. Her cool gaze slid over Ghost Hand, Mountain Eagle, and Snow Leopard, finally resting on the sunken underground base, which had collapsed into a pit over ten ters deep. She took a deep breath and said, "Mission accomplished, let's go ho."
"Phew!" That was the phrase everyone had been waiting for. They all breathed a sigh of relief, and a wave of exhaustion quickly overca them. After continuous fighting, they were all completely drained, both physically and ntally. Now that the mission was complete, a sense of fatigue rushed over them, making them long to find a place to rest properly.
"Thank you," Hook approached, crossed his hands over his chest, and bowed respectfully. A large group of natives also bowed, expressing their deep gratitude.
"You've had your revenge, and our mission is also complete. We've collaborated, and there's no need for thanks. Now, it's ti for us to leave. Farewell," Luo Zheng replied with a light smile.
"Won't you stay a few days?" Hook asked sincerely. Seeing Luo Zheng shake his head, he thought for a mont and said, "All right, please allow us to accompany you part of the way to express our gratitude. If you ever need us, co find us in that village. I'll rebuild our tribal village."
"That sounds good," Luo Zheng said politely, though inwardly he thought it was best never to return to such a dangerous place. They all turned around, facing the sun, and headed ho.
