Now reading: Chapter 558 558: Lan Xue in Peril from Strongest Soldier King, a Action novel by Jungle Wolf.

In the forest, Lan Xue charged forward, leading the pack with an icy expression and eyes full of murderous intent. The appearance of pursuers launching a proactive attack clearly indicated they were prepared. The question was, who would attack here, outside of Turul's territory? Lan Xue entertained this thought briefly before casting it aside. Now was not the ti to dwell on such questions; the top priority was to draw the enemies away.

Everyone rushed to a small hillside, only to see a large number of ard militants quickly advancing. They were all around in the forest. Luo Zheng's face paled with surprise at the sight of so many. Taking cover behind a large tree, he set up his gun and began to fire shots, shouting, "Hit them hard."

"Da-da-da!" The ten soldiers of the fourth squadron quickly found cover and, seeing the ard militants charging at them, beca enraged. They opened fire, killing the enemies in the front.

"Grenades." Seeing the fierce montum of the enemy, Lan Xue quickly shouted.

"Whoosh whoosh whoosh!" A dozen grenades were thrown, landing amongst the dense crowd and exploding one after the other, causing the entire forest to tremble as if shuddering, with screams rising and falling. Limbs and flesh flew through the air, eerily suspended in the Void, as smoke from the explosions spread.

"Da-da-da!" Taking advantage of the enemy's confusion, everyone rapidly fired, headshotting one exposed militant after another. But the enemy was relentless and far too nurous to hold back. Lan Xue expended a full magazine in one breath, his cold gaze sweeping the surroundings. His comrades were being pinned down by the enemy's concentrated fire, making it hard to retaliate. The situation was extrely unfavorable. He quickly yelled, "Grenades."

"Boom boom boom!" Another dozen grenades were thrown, disrupting the enemy's hard-earned offensive. Seizing the opportunity, everyone looked up to find targets, their guns following their eyes and their hands following their hearts. Upon spotting a target, their guns would sound off and take down the enemy. At a distance of just over twenty ters, this was not challenging for them; each shot was a headshot.

The grenade attack had temporarily suppressed the militants' offensive, and coupled with everyone's precise shooting, the militants retreated, leaving a field of bodies behind. Lan Xue knew that the enemy's next attack would start soon, but they had run out of grenades. Without grenades, and with only their firearms, could they withstand the enemy's fierce charge?

Lan Xue pondered for a solution. With insufficient ammunition, it would definitely not work to stand their ground; they would fall into a passive position. The best strategy was to retreat while fighting. Retreating the way they had co was not an option, as it would expose the people from the Military Research Institute. They had to lead the enemy in another direction. After making up her mind, Lan Xue looked around at the soldiers who were continuously firing, a sense of guilt surging in her heart. The enemy was simply too nurous, and it was uncertain how many would survive this battle.

The militants quickly reorganized. There were fewer troops at the front, spread wide, with heavy forces enveloping from the sides. Lan Xue watched coldly and swiftly gave the order through her headset: "Quick, retreat south."

The people from the Military Research Institute had retreated eastward, so heading south was suitable for the squad. A river and a canyon lay to the south, and retreating along the river made it difficult to be encircled. Upon hearing the command, the fourth squadron's soldiers did not hesitate to turn tail and run. On the battlefield, military orders are as weighty as mountains; only strict obedience ensures the full expression of combat strength, as hesitation could spell doom for the troop.

"Bang Bang Bang!" Lan Xue didn't retreat imdiately but continued to fire in bursts, sending bullet after bullet whistling through the air like continuous arrows, knocking down each enemy that charged forward. Among the gunfire, Lan Xue caught sight from the corner of her eye of a leader-like figure hiding behind a large tree, shouting orders.

A chilling murderous intent flashed across Lan Xue's icy face. She aid at the exposed knee of the figure and fired a shot. He scread in agony, his body leaning forward, his head revealing itself from behind the tree. Lan Xue raised her hand and fired another shot; the bullet, carrying all of Lan Xue's endless chill, instantly entered his head, splashing a streak of blood.

"Bang Bang Bang!" Lan Xue kept firing rapidly, taking down the encroaching targets. However, there were simply too many enemies, and she couldn't kill them all. She shrank her body back, fell back to the dirt slope, picked up her weapon, and started running, all the while surveying the surrounding terrain—where there were trees that could shield her from enemy fire, where there were slopes that made running difficult, and where there could be enemy-focused routes, and so on.

As an Elite Soldier King, Lan Xue possessed ample combat skills and experience. When Luo Zheng was around, Lan Xue used to play her skills down, letting Luo Zheng take the spotlight, but now the situation was different. Lan Xue didn't hide her strength any longer and ran through the woods like an agile cheetah, with the pursuing enemy bullets failing to hit her.

As the mbers of the fourth squad retreated and reestablished their defense, they saw Lan Xue coldly returning, her speed so fast it was hard for the naked eye to lock on, her movent technique elusive. The dense enemy bullets were always blocked by trees. Everyone was taken aback, not expecting the seemingly frail Lan Xue to be so formidable. Their male pride was stoked, and their blood boiled.

On the battlefield, no iron-blooded soldier wanted to admit they were inferior to a woman. The fact that a woman who should have been protected was covering their retreat was embarrassing. While they couldn't refuse a military order, the sight of the enemy's intense firing enraged everyone, and they started shooting rapidly without delay.

"Bang Bang Bang!" Everyone knelt and shot with arms as firm as rocks, stable and powerful. Their gaze was intense, their focus heightened—aiming at targets and achieving their best performance. One by one, the boldly charging militants were shot in the head. However, the militants weren't weak; they concealed themselves and returned fire with a frenzy, bringing the battle back to an intensely heated state.

Lan Xue leaped behind a broken log, which was thick enough for two people to embrace. After landing, she rolled nimbly, quickly aid her gun ahead, and without hesitation, fired and rapidly took down three charging militants. Only then did she catch a rough breath and calmly surveyed the surroundings. A large group of enemies organized another attack, only forty or fifty ters from her squad, but they didn't pursue eastward, which made Lan Xue secretly relieved.

Completing the mission was the duty and responsibility of a soldier. A person could die, but the mission had to be accomplished. Lan Xue saw that the enemies in front were using the trees as cover, pushing forward not too slowly, and a large number of enemies also erged from the woods on one side. Fortunately, there was a river on the other side, which the enemies couldn't bypass; otherwise, they would have been caught in a three-sided attack and certain death.

"Bang Bang Bang!" Lan Xue calmly fired her gun, clearing the targets in her sight. She finished a magazine in one breath and then rolled swiftly on the ground, quickly changing her magazine. Seeing countless bullets hitting the log, she knew her position was compromised and crawled forward quickly.
