"Ah?" While weaving a large net with vines, Luo Zheng felt a stab of pain in his finger as it started to bleed. A shock of unease set into his heart, not the unease from an impending danger, but the peculiar sensation of losing the most precious thing in one's life. A mix of sorrow and relief flooded over him. Luo Zheng's eyes narrowed fiercely as he sucked on his finger to stop the blood, all the while pondering, could it be that sothing happened to Lan Xue?
With this thought, Luo Zheng's heart skipped a beat, and his mood turned heavy. Then, the scholar ca over with so people, excitent on his face. He jogged up to Luo Zheng and said, "Captain, we've found two possible exits. To avoid alerting the enemy, I've stationed people to keep watch without setting off any explosives. We'll wait for your preparations to be completed before acting together."
"Good," Luo Zheng responded, putting aside his previous discomfort and signaling everyone to speed up. He looked up at the sky; dusk was nearing. They must be ready before dark; any further delay would be disadvantageous for everyone.
"Whiz, whiz." The person in charge of monitoring the exits fired their gun, the shots coming in quick succession. Luo Zheng glanced over, considering the possibility that the enemy was trying to break out of the canyon again. This had happened several tis throughout the day, and Luo Zheng had grown accustod to it. Urging everyone to hasten their work, the lookout reported through the earpiece, "Report, a troop is pouring into the canyon, and there are three tal boats."
"Let them in, lift the blockade," Luo Zheng whispered, as it was about to get dark. A mont's peace would be good, lowering Turul's guard and facilitating the night ambush.
Everyone sped up their weaving. The net, ant to hold grenades, was vast with very fine sh to prevent the grenades from slipping through. The work was ti-consuming, but under the hunter Luo Zheng's guidance, and with everyone's skilled hands, a large net slowly took shape. To be safe, Luo Zheng asked everyone to continue weaving another big net with the vines.
By nightfall, the two nets were ready. Everyone stopped to rest and ate so dry rations. Luo Zheng lay on the ground, counting the stars, while the scholar ca over and offered him a water flask. Luo Zheng waved it off. The scholar took several gulps himself then said in a low voice, "I've checked; the water flow is strong. If we act in the middle of the night, by dawn, the water will have flooded the canyon below."
"No, it should completely saturate the canyon, look," Luo Zheng said, pointing to a mass of dark clouds approaching on the horizon and feeling the wind strength. "In about an hour, it should start raining. It looks like it's going to be a heavy downpour. With the rain and river water combined, flooding the canyon shouldn't be a problem."
As a qualified mber of the Special Forces, basic weather-reading skills were essential. The scholar followed Luo Zheng's pointing finger. His face brightened as he said, "That's excellent. Rain in the tropical rainforest is common. It's been hot for two or three days; it's ti for rain to fall. This rain looks like it won't be light—Heaven is on our side."
"We should cut a few trees before the downpour to hang the nets," Luo Zheng reminded.
The scholar agreed and hurried off. Soon after, he returned with two tree trunks about twenty centiters in diater and roughly seven ters long. The gap in the ground was narrow, only two to three ters across, so the tree trunks fit well and were perfectly suitable. Considering the disadvantage of heavy rain, Luo Zheng took action early.
They ca to the narrow gap and, using the tree trunks, hung the large nets down. The trunks lay across the ground, nets hanging below filled with several grenades. Luo Zheng, seeing that the net was sturdy and showed no sign of falling apart, breathed a sigh of relief. He ordered more grenades to be lowered by rope into the nets.
Half an hour later, Luo Zheng left behind two boxes of grenades, having had the others placed in the large nets. The two nets, now full of grenades, looked like giant beehives hanging from the trees. Luo Zheng looked at the darkening sky, storm clouds overhead, and the howling wind heralding an imminent storm. He couldn't help but feel elated and imdiately gave the order, "Everyone take two grenades to prepare, wait for my command."
"Yes," everyone stood on either side of the gap, each holding two grenades, calmly looking at the hanging nets, waiting for the final order.
"Boom!" Suddenly, a clap of thunder rang out. Luo Zheng startled, thinking soone had lost control and thrown a grenade down, which scared him imnsely. But after spotting a flash of lightning, he realized what it was and relaxed. He looked down at the grenades dangling in the gap, smiled, and shouted, "Brothers, heaven is truly helping us. Get ready."
"Boom!" Another thunderclap roared, a torrential downpour began to fall from the sky, hitting the face painfully; the howling wind made it difficult to stand firm. Luo Zheng and his team looked at the severe weather and laughed. With the rainstorm and lightning to conceal their actions, even if they collapsed the entire fissure, nobody would notice.
"Crack!" A fierce lightning bolt flashed across the sky, and certainly, thunder would follow.
"Get ready!" Luo Zheng growled softly through the headset.
Everyone bit the safety pin of the hand grenades in their mouths and watched the fissure below with calm focus.
"Throw!" Luo Zheng bellowed, tossing the hand grenade downwards as he shouted, "Run!"
Everyone else also threw their hand grenades into the two big nets hanging beneath the fissure and turned to dash, exerting all their strength. With so many hand grenades exploding, no one dared to take it lightly, even if it was inside the fissure.
"Boom!" Thunder erupted in the sky as everyone leaped to the ground, lying prone and motionless, hands clamped tightly over their ears, mouths wide open. Then, they heard a trendous explosion that shook the earth as if an earthquake had struck.
The explosion lasted for a while before fading. Everyone slowly got up and gazed wide-eyed at the scene: a huge crater had ford not far ahead, causing a gasp of alarm. Luckily, they had run far enough; otherwise, they would have fallen in.
All stood up and walked excitedly to the edge of the crater. Then, in the flash of lightning, they saw the fissure completely blocked by rocks and earth, at least a hundred ters high. The river had stopped flowing, and everyone burst into joyful laughter, their efforts had not been in vain. The Scholar rushed to Luo Zheng and exclaid with delight, "Captain, we did it."
"Mmm, quickly arrange for soone to collapse the cave exit," Luo Zheng commanded, his head clear despite their victory, urgently ordering to use the cover of the thunder to collapse the fissure. If the river rose too fast, Turul in the canyon would detect sothing was wrong and escape through the caves, rendering their efforts useless.
"Yes, we need a few people," the Scholar shouted as he took the order.
"Leave two snipers and all the remaining sniper bullets; everyone else go," Luo Zheng ordered.
The team sprang into action, following the Scholar as they ran. Luo Zheng, accompanied by the two remaining snipers with the few sniper bullets they had left, reached the observation point and pointed to the entrance ahead, "As soon as the enemy realizes sothing is off, they'll definitely burst out from here. Hit them hard."
"Yes!" The two snipers puffed out their chests and responded loudly, their killing intent fierce.
