The cave extended straight ahead with a clear view, limited to just about ten ters. Luo Zheng's charge was imdiately spotted by the patrol team. Alerted, they swiftly reached for the guns on their backs. By this ti, Luo Zheng had already covered six or seven ters and was only two or three ters away from the group. Not waiting for them to fire, Luo Zheng struck first. With a forward swing of his arms, several streaks of dark light shot out like lightning, targeting their faces, using his Life-taking Nails.
The needles were too small and required great wrist strength and skill, skills Luo Zheng had yet to master. But nails, being heavier and bulkier than needles, were easier to handle. After months of rigorous training, Luo Zheng had achieved so proficiency with his Life-taking Nails. Five of them whistled through the air, in the dimly lit cave they seed like grim reapers' tokens.
The five patrollers did not see the Life-taking Nails Luo Zheng threw, but they did see his actions. Instinctively, their bodies dodged at a tilt, delaying the opportunity to shoot. Luo Zheng, like a fierce tiger plunging into a flock of sheep, ferociously slit the throat of one ard man with his Tiger Teeth. With a quick kick, he sent the second man flying into the third.
The fourth and fifth ard n, having just dodged the Life-taking Nails and were preparing to shoot, saw the third man knocked down and were forced to retreat, once again missing their chance to fire. Luo Zheng wouldn't miss such an opportunity. The Tiger Teeth flashed in his hand and struck directly at the fourth man's neck.
The fifth ard man stepped back several paces, frantically raising his gun. By this ti, Luo Zheng had leapt forward, stomping down forcefully as he landed, keeping the third man, who was trying to get up, pinned to the ground. With another forceful stomp, the man underfoot felt a severe pain in his chest and passed out.
Using the montum, Luo Zheng surged forward, knocking the fifth man, who was about to pull the trigger, off his feet. Luo Zheng chased him down, snapped his neck, then returned, pulled out the Tiger Teeth, and severed the neck of the third man, who was still unconscious, before rushing forward again. His eyes were cold and full of intense murderous intent, like a phantom hunting for prey, fearsoly unstoppable.
Soon, another chamber appeared ahead. Luo Zheng opened it to see it was full of supplies, emitting a strange sll; unsure of its contents, he quickly moved on. Continuing along the cave, he suddenly found himself before a wide exit guarded by around ten sentries.
Luo Zheng was shocked and quickly stopped, holding his breath to assess the situation. After confirming there were no other forks, he rapidly retraced his steps. Having already eliminated two patrol teams, he believed the enemy would soon notice sothing was amiss. He needed to leave quickly, but before doing so, Luo Zheng decided to make one big final play, considering it as collecting interest.
Anyone who dared to harm Lan Xue must die!
As he ran, Luo Zheng radiated intense killing intent, raising his gun with a cold, steady gaze fixed ahead, not allowing for a mont of negligence. Though he had checked all passageways and chambers and saw no signs of the enemy, one can never be too careful on the battlefield. A single oversight could lead to unrecoverable disaster. Vigilance had beco a habit for Luo Zheng, even if he was certain no enemies lay ahead.
It wasn't long before Luo Zheng reached the ammunition depot. Quickly entering, he opened a box of grenades and set up tripwire bombs. Without tid explosives or other devices at his disposal, tripwires would serve as the best detonation thod. Two minutes later, Luo Zheng had set two tripwires, one on the door and another on a wooden box near the entrance, both concealed by the act of opening the door or moving the box.
Luo Zheng arrived at the outside passage. Noticing nothing unusual and not daring to delay, he quickly retreated back to the hole he had descended from, took a running jump to grab the rope above, and climbed up swiftly. After erging from the hole, Luo Zheng finally breathed a sigh of relief. Gazing at the moon overhead in the silent valley and the searchlights twinkling everywhere, everything was just as it had been when he entered. A cold smirk appeared on his resolute face.
After setting the bamboo net back over the entrance to make it look undisturbed, Luo Zheng tidied up and ran quickly down the mountain. Once the munitions in the cave were ignited, not only the enemy would die, but his own survival would be difficult too. Thinking of Kuntai's expression when the underground cave exploded brought so comfort to Luo Zheng's angry heart, but the thought of having no news from Lan Xue made his heart clench again, increasing his speed.
After sprinting down the mountain peak, Luo Zheng took a mont to rest in the dense forest below. Seeing a patrol team descending the mountain road, he quickly hid in the shadows, watching the team coldly until they left. Luo Zheng didn't move imdiately, but observed for a while longer, thinking about a way to escape.
Ahead was flat terrain, he could avoid the searchlights by increasing his speed, but he would still have to pass a row of log cabins. Continuing the retreat as originally planned would take too much ti and risk exposure. Luo Zheng checked his atomic watch, it was already past five in the morning, daylight was approaching, and he couldn't stick to the original plan.
Looking around, there were only log cabins, row upon row. Practically in the center, Luo Zheng thought for a mont, his gaze drawn to a jeep parked on the main road. It was parked near the fifth checkpoint. If he took the jeep, he could escape much faster, but fleeing along the main road ant passing through four checkpoints, a certain death.
Luo Zheng glanced sideways at the flat ground, quickly analyzing the possibilities. He realized that running along the flat ground might not allow him to avoid detection by the searchlights or the machine gun fire from the watchtowers, but it would enable him to escape imdiately. Moreover, there were no checkpoints in the open, and if he was fast enough, bullets wouldn't catch him. He decided to risk it.
With a decision made, Luo Zheng waited for the searchlight to pass, then dashed across the clearing and hid in a dark corner of a log cabin. When the searchlight moved toward him, he quickly lay on the ground. With the camouflage suit's help, the searchlight didn't spot anything unusual and moved away quickly. Luo Zheng, clutching his gun, dashed towards the main road with all his might.
In a short while, Luo Zheng reached the vicinity of the checkpoint. All the guards were facing outward, unprepared for an attack from behind. About ten of them were divided into two groups; half were dozing off, as dawn was about to break and they were taking turns resting due to the fatigue and the presence of four more checkpoints ahead.
With so many people, Luo Zheng couldn't ensure a silent elimination, so he had to use his gun. Suddenly, he stood up wielding his AK47, aiming at those not yet asleep. His cold stare disseminated a chill in the night, firm and sharp, his finger pulling the trigger without hesitation, "Dada Dada!" A burst of gunfire suddenly pierced the quiet night, ferociously striking at the target.
The ten or so n could not withstand Luo Zheng's ambush and were quickly eliminated, but the gunfire also drew the searchlights. Luo Zheng swiftly retreated, jumped into the jeep, pulled out the wires underneath the steering wheel to start it, and as the jeep roared to life, a piercing alarm blared through the valley.
