"Mom, you just got back, and now you’re leaving with your bag again?" Wei Ji asked, puzzled, seeing his mother about to head out with her bag.
"I’m going to find a master to check on you. If you’re possessed, I need to quickly drive the evil spirit away. You’re my only son, you can’t have anything happen to you." Wei Ji’s mother said as she grabbed her handbag, wearing high heels, and hurriedly left again.
"Mom, I was just saying, I’m fine, really. Co back soon." Wei Ji, in slippers, ran out to chase his mother, but despite her short stature, his mother’s long legs moved quickly, and he couldn’t catch up.
"Whether you’re possessed isn’t determined by you; I need the master to co to our house and take a look before I feel at ease." Wei Ji’s mother’s voice drifted away, leaving only her graceful back and the white exhaust in Wei Ji’s view.
"Why does she always make mountains out of molehills?" Wei Ji sighed and went back into the living room, grabbing his phone to play gas with his teammates.
As Wei Ji was enjoying his ga, a commotion ca from outside. Before he could get up from the couch to see what was happening, the sound of the door being kicked open echoed.
Looking towards the sound, a familiar silhouette stood in backlight, none other than Xu Ke.
"Who is it?" Wei Ji asked impatiently, and upon recognizing the visitor, he felt his breath hitch. Dr. Li’s previous impatience was gone from his expression.
"Why is it you? What are you doing breaking into my house?" Wei Ji gripped his phone tightly, asking in a dry, tense voice.
Xu Ke didn’t answer Wei Ji’s question, silently walking towards him. His eyes turned the familiar blood-red, reigniting Wei Ji’s fear of Xu Ke.
"Let tell you, this is the Wei house, not your Xu house. You can’t harm here." Wei Ji said nervously, unsure whether he was speaking to Xu Ke or himself.
Xu Ke’s movents didn’t stop, maintaining his previous pace towards Wei Ji.
"Don’t co any closer, stand right there, can’t you understand human language? I’m telling you not to co any closer!" Wei Ji shouted, pointing at Xu Ke.
"This is my ho. You’ve broken in; that’s trespassing. Do you know that? It’s illegal; I could call the police anyti to have you arrested! If you leave now, I’ll pretend nothing happened, or else I’ll call the police to take you away." The nerve in Wei Ji’s mind stretched tighter as Xu Ke got closer, as if it might snap at any mont.
"In Western countries, with what you’re doing, I could shoot you anyti. Do you believe that?" Wei Ji felt dry all over with nervousness, especially the dryness in his throat, which felt like it could spark.
"I’m begging you, don’t co any closer. What are you doing at my house? Just tell what you want, what you’re here for. You’re scaring by staying silent like this, do you know that?" Wei Ji’s words now had a thick sobbing tone.
"Don’t you know why I’m here? Your mother hard my wife and sister. Do you dare say you knew nothing about this? Today, I’ll give you two choices: either hand your mother over, or I’ll take you away." Xu Ke’s eyes fixed on Wei Ji, lifeless as a corpse, scaring him to the core.
"It’s not that I don’t want to hand over my mother, it’s just bad timing. She’s already gone out, won’t be back for a while. How about you co back tomorrow?" Wei Ji spoke in a negotiating tone.
Wei Ji conceded quickly, initially thinking he wasn’t afraid. But seeing Xu Ke made him feel the pain in his neck, after being choked by Xu Ke before.
"There’s no need for tomorrow; I think today’s just fine. Your mother’s not here, but you’re still here, aren’t you?" Xu Ke said with a cold smile.
"What do you an? I haven’t offended you. I’ve been staying ho obediently, recovering. I haven’t gone anywhere. But now you co here causing trouble? That’s unreasonable, isn’t it?" Wei Ji retreated further, tripping and falling onto the sofa, with nowhere left to back away.
"We don’t have deep enmity, just so minor misunderstandings. I already took a beating from you once. There’s no need to keep hounding over trivialities, right? Are all you people from Shangjing this unreasonable?"
Wei Ji pulled a pillow into his arms, feeling much safer.
"You didn’t trouble , but your mother troubled my family. You understand the saying ’father’s debts are paid by the son,’ right? If you hadn’t told your mother things she shouldn’t have heard, would she have troubled my family? Since she troubled my family, I naturally have to trouble hers. That’s only fair." Xu Ke said, standing before Wei Ji.
"The way your mother treated my family, I’ll treat you the sa way." Xu Ke gave Wei Ji a sinister smile.
"What did my mother do to your family?" Wei Ji, hearing Xu Ke’s words and seeing his expression, nervously swallowed.
"Did what, you say? Do you truly not know? If you claim you know nothing about your mother’s actions, do you think I’ll believe you? Who’s the fool here, you or ?" Xu Ke looked at Wei Ji’s timid deanor, reaching out to pull away the pillow Wei Ji was hugging tightly.
Wei Ji was so frightened by Xu Ke’s sudden movent that he was visibly shaking; if he were a dog, his tail would likely be tucked between his legs.
"I really have no idea, believe . If I knew anything, let be struck by lightning and die a horrible death." Wei Ji’s vow was earnest but fell on Xu Ke’s disbelief.
"What age are we in now? Curses and vows may work for your mom, but with , they an two words: no discussion!" Xu Ke’s final words were said with such clarity that they made Wei Ji shudder, like a small animal.
"Can’t you just let go?" Wei Ji asked with a tearful face.
"No." Xu Ke replied coldly.
As soon as Xu Ke finished speaking, he slapped Wei Ji across the face. His just-recovered cheek swelled again instantly, a mouthful of blood flooding his mouth, and a tooth fell out.
Staring into Xu Ke’s cold eyes, Wei Ji shook his head desperately, hoping Xu Ke would stop, but Xu Ke’s heart was unmoved. Another slap followed, making Wei Ji’s face look a bit more symtrical.
