This setup looks more like a shop-smashing than a pawn situation.
The pawnshop owner was montarily stunned, but he quickly recovered, timidly asking, "Are, are you here to pawn sothing?"
The suited n automatically ford two lines, and a middle-aged man stepped out from behind them.
The pawnshop owner, who regularly reads financial newspapers, imdiately recognized the visitor and exclaid, "Chairman Hughes?"
Evan Hughes swept a blank gaze over the pawnshop owner and said, "There’s a thief in the family. We’re here to catch him, so please don’t interfere."
The pawnshop owner’s eyes darted around, quickly thinking of that Jade Buddha.
He was relieved he hadn’t handed over the money to that young man yet, then gestured invitingly and said deferentially, "There’s a custor inside right now. Please go in and see if it’s the person you’re looking for."
Evan Hughes nodded slightly at the pawnshop owner and stepped inside.
Inside the pawnshop, Mason Monroe was waiting anxiously.
He didn’t have much ti left and just hoped the pawnshop owner would act quickly.
At that mont, he heard the sound of the door opening.
Mason’s face lit up as he turned around, "Now you can transfer to ..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Mason saw the face of the person entering.
Evan Hughes!
"Dad?! What are you doing here..." Mason stumbled back two steps, looking as if he had seen a ghost.
Evan Hughes, with a cold expression, asked knowingly, "Transfer what to you?"
"N-nothing..." Mason instinctively hid the Jade Buddha behind him, his lips twitching as he forced a smile, "I just ca to see if there was sothing here Coralie would like, sothing to surprise her."
"Oh?" Evan Hughes raised an eyebrow, "A surprise or a shock?"
Sweat beads the size of beans imdiately ford on Mason’s forehead.
Evan Hughes continued to ask, "The Jade Buddha at ho, how much did you sell it for? Was the money enough to buy a gift for Coralie?"
Mason’s face turned pale as paper.
Evan Hughes knows!
How did he find out?
"I-I..." Mason’s lips quivered; he wanted to explain but couldn’t find the words.
Evan Hughes let out a cold snort from his nose, his voice icy and low, "Mason Monroe, I gave you a chance, and this is how you repay ? Stealing from the family and selling it off? You’ve really outdone yourself!"
Mason’s heart felt heavy as iron, as if it had stopped beating.
It wasn’t until Evan Hughes said, "Co back with to sign the papers. From now on, you will have nothing to do with the Hughes Family or Coralie," that Mason snapped back to reality.
He didn’t want to explain anymore; caught with the evidence, what else could he say?
Mason imdiately fell to the ground, clutching Evan Hughes’s leg, pleading, "Dad! Listen to , I didn’t want to do it either, I was forced! If I didn’t co up with the money, those guys would have killed ! Please believe , I swear it was just this once. I’ll never take anything from the family again!"
Evan Hughes kicked Mason away, coldly saying, "Enough, you betrayed my trust. Either go to jail, or divorce Coralie, leave with nothing, and never show your face to us again! You choose!"
Mason shook his head frantically, "No! I don’t want to leave Coralie! Dad, please, I’m begging you, give one last chance! I was really forced into this; I fell into soone else’s trap! It was Rank One! That guy Rank One wants to ruin !"
