Officer Li hesitated. "Boss Huang, I don’t know if I should say this or not..."
"Go ahead."
"From my perspective, your girlfriend might not actually be here. Besides, that Mr. Wan doesn’t look like a kidnapper..."
The other two officers wore ambiguous expressions.
Huang Xiaojue imdiately understood. They simply didn’t believe Wan Donglin would kidnap anyone. Once they learned Wan Donglin’s identity, their tune had changed instantly. What kind of woman couldn’t a man like him get? Even for a woman as beautiful as a celestial fairy, it would be fortunate if she *didn’t* actively throw herself at him. Why would he resort to kidnapping a woman? Their ambiguous expressions even conveyed a clear signal—Could it be that the woman herself was flighty and had latched onto an even wealthier man?
"Boss Huang, won are like clothes; if the old one doesn’t go, the new one won’t co. Sotis, it’s better to let go completely."
Huang Xiaojue said lightly, "Thank you, everyone."
"We’re very sorry, Boss Huang. We can only follow procedure. If you need any help in the future, please don’t hesitate to call us."
"Thank you."
The police car drove away, but Huang Xiaojue’s car remained where it was. He dialed Yan Xixi’s number again, but was t with a persistent notification that her phone was switched off.
When Yan Xixi was carried out of the ambulance, she remained in a stupor. It was unclear if she had yet to awaken or was simply unwilling to open her eyes.
Wan Donglin examined her forehead closely. It was still bandaged, but the injury was minor. He wanted to call out to her several tis, but his heart grew heavy, and he felt profoundly dejected.
「By evening,」 he could no longer hold back and approached her. "Xixi, wake up and eat sothing."
She didn’t answer. Suddenly, he felt a terrifying, rolling wave of heat emanating from her body. He hurriedly reached out to touch her forehead and found it alarmingly hot; she was running a high fever.
"Xixi, what’s wrong? Is there sowhere else you feel unwell?"
She kept her eyes closed, her lips severely chapped.
Dr. Xu arrived with a surgeon. After the surgeon perford an initial examination, Dr. Xu reviewed all her dical records. He then reassured Wan Donglin, "Mr. Wan, don’t worry. Her immune system is weak from not eating or drinking for a long ti, and she’s caught a cold. An IV drip is all she needs, and she’ll be fine."
Once the IV drip was set up and the two doctors had left, Wan Donglin was also exhausted from the ordeal.
He pulled up a chair and sat down in front of her. She opened her eyes, glanced at him, and imdiately closed them again.
He softened his voice. "Xixi, have sothing hot to drink. I’ve had soone prepare several of your favorite side dishes."
She suddenly rasped, "Where’s my phone?"
He was startled but still rose to get her phone. She reached out one hand to snatch it, and he imdiately handed it over, only to find the phone’s battery was dead and it wouldn’t turn on.
"Xixi, I’ll charge it for you."
She remained silent but watched him intently as he plugged in the phone to charge and then turned it on. However, the phone didn’t ring, not even the chi of a text ssage.
She waited for a long while until, slowly, despair began to set in.
He knew what she was waiting for but didn’t acknowledge it, continuing to sit in front of her. After he had charged it for a short while, she finally couldn’t bear it any longer and abruptly tried to sit up. However, Wan Donglin caught her hand, his voice gentle, "Don’t move. I’ll bring the phone to you."
He got up and handed her the phone. She gave him a suspicious look, then imdiately dialed the familiar number. However, the call was t with a busy signal. Undeterred, she kept dialing, but it was consistently busy. After trying more than ten tis, she finally grew disheartened and silently placed the phone to one side.
Expressionless, Wan Donglin picked up the phone again to charge it for her.
