"Good morning, Inspector Song!" Officer Xiyang greeted her.
"Good morning, Xiyang."
Xiyang saw Mingshen just behind her and chirped. "Oh you two ca together today?"
Mingshen said, "We will always co together from now on~"
"Ah? Why?"
Jia threw him a silent glare.
Don’t you dare-
"Because we are neighbors now!"
Xiyang and the rest of the bureau staff who was present at that ti, had their jaws dropped in shock.
N-Neighbors!?
When? How? Why?
What!??
Dr. Yang Mingshen and Inspector Song are neighbors now?
Jia quickly tried to clear things off. "It’s just temporary..."
She grabbed his arm and forcefully pushed him in the front. "Let’s get going, Dr. Yang," she gritted her teeth, "We have lots of work to do?"
"Really? You got a case?"
"Keep moving!" She continued pushing him.
From the other corner of the bureau, Commissioner Zhong Kai stepped out. Rembering their last conversation, she slightly stiffened in discomfort.
Mingshen looked back and imdiately noticed her stiff expression. He followed her gaze which were following Zhong Kai. He slightly tilted his head, squinting his eyes.
"Oh. Morning Inspector Song," Zhong Kai said as he noticed her.
"Good morning, Sir," she politely smiled.
"Any new leads on She?"
"Not yet."
"I see. Don’t lose heart. Sothing will co up soon. Keep posted."
He then looked at Mingshen and smiled. "Dr. Yang. Nice to et you."
"Not so nice to et you," he shot back.
Zhong Kai rapidly blinked his eyes. "Did I offend you in any way?"
"I only feel nice to et Spicy here, not the rest of the cops population," he sneered. "That’s just how our equation is, isn’t it?"
"I thought that equation would have llowed down a bit since we work together."
"Not a chance," he smiled.
"Ah. My bad then," Zhong Kai replied. "I expected too much. Anyway, I will be on my way."
He passed by her, making her slightly pursed her lips. She let out a small breath as he exited.
Mingshen stared at her hand which was holding his arm. He slightly pressed his lips and slowly raised his hand, his fingers trying to reach the tips of hers and wanting to hold them. As they were about to touch, a voice intervened.
"Inspector Song...?"
The summon made Jia let go of Mingshen’s arm to which he frowned.
She turned and recognized the man. "Mr. Zhang Feiyu."
Zhang Feiyu awkwardly walked towards her and bowed. "Hello."
"Hello. What brought you here? Ah, if it’s about the assailants that attacked your wife, then we are still looking out for them. We have widened our search and are doing the best we can to catch them as soon as possible."
He nodded. "Thank you, Inspector Song. I know you are doing everything you can."
Jia softly asked, "How is Mrs. Zhang?"
His eyes reddened. "Her condition has stabilized, but she has...not woken up yet..."
He trembled breathlessly.
"I am sorry to hear that. But I have faith that Mrs. Zhang will surely regain her consciousness."
Mingshen said, "She is under the best care at my hospital. All my patients are."
Jia saw him tightly holding a bag against his chest. She asked, "Please tell what you ca here for."
Zhang Feiyu nervously asked, "C-Can we talk in private...?"
"Sure. Let’s head to my office."
—
Zhang Feiyu cautiously placed his wife’s laptop on Jia’s desk.
"I rember the last ti I t Dr. Yang and Inspector Mo. You had asked about Luqi and if she had been stressed lately. I said that it was probably about her work. So, I accessed her laptop in hopes I could find sothing."
Huojin blinked. "You knew her password?"
"I kind of broke in..." he guiltily averted his gaze.
Jia slightly widened her eyes. "You can hack?"
"N-Not much really. Definitely not like a professional hacker. But I have developed my own software. Getting into mobile and laptop accounts is simpler. Obviously, I didn’t do it for any unethical purposes!"
Huojin rembered. "Ah. Yes, I recall. When we t during your case, you said you were originally into software developnt."
"Yes. I still take so freelance jobs from ti to ti since I still love that field."
"I see," Jia said. "I rember Zexi also ntioning that Zhang Luqi’s laptop could help us with sothing."
He nodded. "That’s why I just checked it out of curiosity."
"Considering you ca here today, I think that you found sothing."
Zhang Feiyu pursed his lips. "I think so? But I am not entirely sure."
He opened her laptop and navigated through so folders. "Actually, this feels like incomplete data."
"What do you an?"
"Hmm...I don’t know how to explain. I could see a few files in so random folders. But I cannot make a complete picture out of them. It feels like so files are here and so data sowhere else. Luqi...does that actually. Especially with backups. She would keep one cup at the dining table and so other place I wouldn’t know even existed in our kitchen..." he coughed in embarrassnt.
He opened one file which showed dozens of lines of a programming language code.
"First is this file. It’s not the entire code but so code snippets from the main code I believe."
Jia and Huojin took a closer look. "What is this code’s function?"
Mingshen took a casual look at the code too and felt bored. This wasn’t his area of expertise. He instead gazed at Jia’s fingers.
"To be honest, even though I am a software developer, this looks very advanced. Plus, without the full code, it will be hard to decipher the intent. But I could find that it probably does sothing in real ti. I recognize so patterns of the code which I have used and seen before."
Huojin asked, "Do you find anything suspicious in this?"
"Not yet. But Luqi has left so notes against so lines of code...See here," he scrolled down and showed them.
"She has stressed on this part a lot but I don’t really understand it much."
Jia asked, "Can you zoom in on her comnts?"
"Yes, yes. It’s this. She has written sothing like neural feedback...stimulus amplification?"
Suddenly, Mingshen tore his gaze from Jia’s hands and looked up at him sharply. "Neural feedback?"
