"And you? How dare you bring my mother into this? You have no idea what my mother endured because of—" Beatrice started when Elara started laughing.
She laughed so loudly that the sound suppressed Beatrice for a few seconds.
"Have you lost your mind?" Beatrice asked, and Elara chuckled before she nodded.
"Yes, I have. I have lost my mind. Your mother suffered so much. You suffered so much. I get it, Beatrice. But why must I bear with it?" Elara asked.
"What?" Beatrice asked, looking straight at Elara as she removed her chains from her throat so she could turn and face her.
"Your mother suffered because she slept with Heather and then couldn’t bear the consequences. It was her choice. You suffered because you let yourself be fooled by Thas, who has now painted everything on you," Elara said loudly before she pointed towards Andrew.
"Heather and his family are suffering because he couldn’t take responsibility for his one-night stand. Andrew suffered because he trusted his friend more than his wife, who loved him. Carla and Sofia suffered because of their greed and their belittling of the less fortunate. Why must I? Where do I add up in this?" Elara asked, her eyes full of anger and frustration.
Beatrice kept looking at the girl. She wanted to retort but couldn’t co up with a fitting reply.
"You must suffer because you ca between us. Andrew was supposed to be mine, and then you ca between us. Even after you left, he is in love with you. So of course, you must suffer." Beatrice nodded as if that was the best answer in the world.
Elara chuckled.
"So you are going to bla for not being able to keep your man by your side? Rember this was exactly what you said to ?" Elara asked.
Her gaze drifted behind Beatrice, where a man was already closing on her from the first floor by using the ropes so he could snatch the gun from her hand.
Just a little more, and then he would be able to snatch it.
Beatrice froze in her place when she heard what Elara said, and was about to speak when she felt soone’s presence behind her.
She turned around to see who it was, and Elara quickly used the opportunity to kick Beatrice after snatching the gun from her hand.
Beatrice looked around helplessly, her mind processing what just happened.
Elara wiped the blood from the corner of her eyes before she pointed her gun at Beatrice.
"Now the tables have turned again," she said and was about to give Beatrice a taste of her own dicine when they heard rushed steps.
The cops rushed inside after the action, like always.
"Miss Elara, drop your gun. We are here to handle it now," the cops said when they saw the scene before them.
Elara sighed and raised her hand in surrender.
"If you are here to handle it, do a better job at handling it next ti. My wife could’ve lost her life a few minutes ago," Daniel said.
Though his voice was low, the threat in his eyes couldn’t be mistaken. They knew who he was and didn’t dare to argue back.
"Yes, sir," the cops said, walking to where Beatrice was.
"This is not over," Beatrice mouthed to Elara, who clenched her fists to keep herself from killing her then and there.
"Are you okay? Does it hurt too much?" Daniel cupped Elara’s cheeks to see her wound.
The cops held her hand and pulled her away, and Andrew noticed how fluently Daniel called Elara his wife, with no one seeming surprised.
Were they thinking of getting married already? He wondered.
As he was lost in his thoughts, his gaze drifted to Beatrice, who looked like she was inching her hand closer to the cop’s gun.
His pupils dilated when Beatrice pulled the gun out and turned swiftly in Elara’s direction.
"Elara!" Logan shouted in shock when he saw what was happening.
Elara, who had relaxed and had her back to Beatrice, was about to turn when the sound of the gunshot going off echoed in the hall.
Everyone froze. No one dared to move.
The cops snatched the gun and pushed Beatrice to the ground.
"Hahaha! I did it! Did you see that? I won!" Beatrice laughed maniacally.
However, in a few seconds, the scene before her finally registered, and the smile on Beatrice’s face turned to horror when she realized what she had done.
The pain Elara was expecting never ca. Daniel had appeared before her right in ti, but he didn’t get wounded either.
Everything happened so slowly that nobody could understand what had happened until they saw it.
The sound of a body falling on the ground echoed in the silent hall, which was followed by a scream. Carla’s scream.
"Brother!" Carla shouted in horror before she rushed to where Andrew fell on the ground, blood starting to collect around his body.
Elara looked at Andrew, who was bleeding profusely but had a smile on his face. Her heart skipped a beat as she looked at the man with mixed emotions.
"Why?" She finally uttered, walking to him and kneeling before him.
Andrew smiled, not the sad smile but one that was genuinely happy.
"T-this might not atone for my sins, but I am happy I could finally do sothing for you. I never gave you anything but suffering. For the first ti, I protected you from one. I am happy," Andrew whispered before he lost his consciousness, closing his eyes.
"Brother, don’t close your eyes, please," Carla cried beside Andrew’s body, feeling helpless as she looked around at everyone for help.
"No! No! Andrew! What did I do?!" Beatrice scread at the top of her lungs as the cops pulled her out.
"No. Don’t take away. He is my husband! I have to stay there for him. He is bleeding so much. It’s all because of you, Elara! You are a witch! A cursed vixen!" Beatrice shouted as the cops pulled her out of the halls, the distance dimming her voice.
Elara kept looking at Andrew, unsure how to handle the situation. Her heart was beating erratically, but her mind felt like it had stopped working.
This man never cared about her or her emotions, so why did he risk his life now? Why? Why, when his family needed him so much? Tears rolled down her cheeks, and Daniel pursed his lips.
"He is alive. Quickly, we need to take him to the hospital." Daniel was the first to react. After all, despite their past relationship, this man saved his wife’s life, and he knew if anything happened to Andrew today, Elara would forever bla herself for his death.
