Contrary to Rod’s imagination, the underground base in Stone City isn’t gloomy or dim. It uses rocks as the main structure, allowing light sources to fill every corner, making it look clean, bright, and grand.
But once you delve deeper into the base, its sinister side becos exposed.
Rod saw countless dungeons sunk in darkness in a gigantic pit.
Nurous living monsters were imprisoned within, with a faint black mist flowing inside, unpenetrated by the light of fire.
The roars, snarls, and clashes of the monsters were constant, echoing in the ears.
Great Priest gan said, "This is our dark dungeon, where a large number of monsters below Strong Level are held. To ensure the monsters’ vitality, we haven’t illuminated this area with firelight."
Rod furrowed his brows. He and Great Priest gan stood on a bridge, looking down, the dark pit like the abyss’s maw, seemingly poised to devour them, instilling a bad feeling.
"How did you introduce the black mist?"
"The black mist spreads up from underground. To ensure this, the dark dungeon is built at the deepest part of the base, far from Stone City’s Guardian Fire. anwhile, there’s a Guardian Fire in the base, but it’s very weak. If sothing happens, the staff on duty will imdiately add Fuel Elent to the fire; the enhanced light will dispel this thin black mist."
Rod then asked, "What if the monsters lose control?"
"We have a comprehensive alert process, with First Level Combatants at the helm; these monsters can’t stir up trouble."
Rod nodded slightly, but felt sowhat uneasy inside.
He knew Calier’s secret unit mainly consisted of Black Inheritors and Unawakened, the latter being twisted existences where human and monster remnants were fused into a half-human, half-monster.
And once the monsters lost the support of the Dark Soul, they would quickly collapse, which is the quantization of the black mist, eventually leaving only ashes.
Therefore, it’s extrely difficult to bring back monster remnants from the battlefield.
They must raise live monsters, fuse them with humans while still alive, ultimately allowing the monster’s soul to dissipate and the residual soul to integrate into the human soul.
And the human soul replaces it, becoming the carrier of the monster remnant.
In other words, at that mont, the person is already gone, his soul transford into the carrier of darkness, while the dark soul is chaotic, mad, rampant, and he inevitably will descend into madness and destruction.
In the past, the Unawakened were Troli’s standard cannon fodder.
Their sole purpose on the battlefield was mutual destruction with the monsters, or else they would quickly turn into monsters themselves.

Until Great Priest gan found new ways to balance and control the Unawakened, allowing them a relatively long-term stable existence, the King re-approved Calier’s secret unit to return to the battlefield.

If not for Great Priest gan’s previous high regard in Royal City, coupled with the Internal Affairs Court finding no evidence of his collaboration with Doomsday believers, along with the peaceful laws since the New King’s ascent, he would have been executed.
Rod was the only one of Troli’s high-ranking officials to explicitly support him.
If he were willing to take over his cause, Great Priest gan had no qualms about committing suicide.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before Rod’s strength skyrocketed, overcoming nurous obstacles, becoming the first powerful Monarch in Troli besides the King.
This broke Great Priest gan’s heart.
With such formidable strength, Calier’s Non-Human Voice couldn’t offer anything to sway him.
Fortunately, Rod’s attitude towards him didn’t change and he even supported him in disputes with Bossivale and Lin, offering thousands of soul resources to Calier.
What thrilled him even more was that during the Sun Knight’s resurrection, Rod even persuaded Kai to hand down his remains to Calier.
