Bella’s POV

The confusion swirling through my mind made it impossible to process what had just unfolded. Derek’s sudden appearance, his direct contradiction of his father’s demands, the way he stepped between Lord Morris and like so misguided knight. The shock painted across his father’s weathered face told this wasn’t part of their original plan. Whatever had driven Derek to this mont, at least he possessed enough sense to pull back from the precipice. Though I suspected he initially believed I’d welco their little celebration, sothing had clearly shifted his perspective just in ti to prevent complete disaster.

The way his eyes kept darting toward , stealing glances, betrayed his inner turmoil.

"What exactly are you implying?"

Lord Morris’s voice cracked with barely contained rage. His mortification ran deeper than Derek’s, if such a thing were possible. The man who prided himself on absolute control, who never acknowledged his own failings, now stood exposed before the very council he sought to manipulate.

"I had no idea this was your true purpose for coming here."

Derek’s words hung heavy in the air between father and son. I watched Lord Morris struggle with the bitter realization that his own flesh and blood had potentially sabotaged his carefully orchestrated sche.

"Derek, we discussed this matter thoroughly. Surely you recall our conversation?" His father’s voice carried the weight of a man grasping at rapidly dissolving authority.

"All I rember, Father, is you ntioning concerns about the recent articles and wanting to investigate the situation personally. Nothing more specific than that," Derek responded, his attempt at diplomatic language doing little to soothe his father’s mounting fury. The older man’s breathing grew labored, his eyes promising violence if circumstances permitted.

"You heard him speak for himself, didn’t you?"

The mont had arrived for my counterattack. Lord Morris’s glare burned through , but his newfound vulnerability stripped away his usual venom. His son’s betrayal had effectively neutered his position.

"Lord Morris, your behavior today has been deeply troubling. This researcher has contributed invaluable work to our community. What possessed you to create such unnecessary conflict and distress?" The council mber’s question carried obvious disapproval, each word calculated to distance the group from Lord Morris’s toxic influence.

Nods of agreent rippled through the remaining council mbers, their apologetic expressions directed toward with newfound respect.

"Please accept our sincere apologies for this unfortunate incident. We hope you won’t judge our entire organization by one mber’s poor judgnt. However, the underlying issue remains unchanged. Your discovery of your wolf necessitates proper pack registration. Given your exceptional contributions here, we’re prepared to make a special accommodation allowing you to apply for identification with any pack of your choosing," the council mber continued with genuine remorse.

The brief satisfaction I’d felt watching Lord Morris’s humiliation evaporated instantly. Despite his tactical defeat, the core problem remained unchanged, hanging over my head like an executioner’s blade.

"I appreciate your consideration and will certainly give your offer serious thought," I managed, my voice trembling as I fought to contain the storm raging within .

"Perhaps you could explain why your belongings appear ready for imdiate departure?" Lord Morris’s resilience proved frustratingly persistent. His wounded pride demanded so small victory to salvage from this wreckage.

"Were you planning to flee?" he pressed, exploiting the council mbers’ slight shift in deanor. While they clearly disapproved of his thods, his leadership position still commanded a certain grudging respect that prevented them from completely dismantling him.

"I specifically requested that she pack her belongings." The deep, commanding voice cut through the tension like a blade through silk. "I’ve arranged accommodations within my pack where she can reside more comfortably."

Alpha Jack’s entrance caught everyone off guard. Water still glistened in his dark hair, his jacket suggesting a hasty departure from whatever had previously occupied his ti. He approached Lord Morris with predatory confidence, stopping re feet away with his hands positioned deliberately on his hips.

"I trust we haven’t subjected our esteed researcher to excessive harassnt. She remains under my pack’s protection as our honored guest. I refuse to allow her to associate our operations with such chaotic behavior," Jack’s words struck Lord Morris with surgical precision, the personal animosity between them suddenly undeniable.

Their shared history had never occurred to before, but the electricity crackling between them spoke of deeper conflicts. I rembered fragnts of pack politics, how these forr allies had grown distant, particularly after the ongoing friction between Lord Morris and Jack’s grandmother over won’s rights within pack structures.

"Very well, we shall take our leave," Lord Morris’s response carried no trace of apology or acknowledgnt of wrongdoing. His pride wouldn’t permit even the smallest concession. After orchestrating this elaborate deception about his son’s motivations, facing imdiate correction from Derek himself, he simply turned and strode toward the exit without another word.

"What about our investigation? We’ve been collaborating closely on this case. We can’t effectively work while scattered across different locations, arriving late when critical developnts occur," Parker protested, his complaint completely ignoring the dramatic confrontation that had just unfolded.

My attention remained locked on Derek, studying his unusual silence with growing suspicion.

"That concern has already been addressed. I’ve prepared a guest house specifically for you and your families. The location places you directly adjacent to her new residence, neighboring our own territory," Jack explained smoothly, his subtle emphasis making the proximity arrangent crystal clear to everyone present.

"If your preparations are complete, I’ll begin transferring your possessions. Does this arrangent et with your approval?" Jack’s question was directed solely at . I offered him a grateful smile that felt genuine for the first ti in hours.

As he passed close enough for private conversation, I whispered softly, "Thank you."

He paused, turning to face from barely a foot away, his voice equally quiet. "You should have contacted imdiately. I would have arrived much sooner."

Those simple words carried more comfort than elaborate speeches. I watched him disappear into my children’s room to deliver the good news about their permanent relocation.

When I finally straightened and surveyed the room again, three pairs of eyes were fixed on with unmistakable intensity. Their stares felt like judgnt rendered without trial.

"So Jack swoops in as your knight in shining armor now?" Derek’s accusation escaped before his brain could engage proper filters.

"You arrived here with your father specifically to demand DNA testing from ?" My imdiate counterattack hit its target with devastating accuracy.

Derek’s throat worked visibly as he swallowed his discomfort.

"Actually, I deliberately created the impression of supporting his position while intending for him to experience public humiliation," he replied, his confidence returning as he recognized the impossibility of proving his claim false.

I couldn’t definitively contradict his explanation, but the situation demanded clear boundaries.

"If any of you attempt similar manipulations in the future, if you continue playing these destructive gas with my life, I guarantee you will never see the children again," I declared, my voice carrying absolute conviction.

From sowhere behind the others, Hugo’s hesitant voice broke the silence. "Does this an there’s still a possibility for redemption?"
