The adversaries didn’t wait for permission.

The mont Adam’s attention shifted to Lucifer, the lead adversary gave a sharp, guttural command, and the remaining eleven surged forward. Not toward Adam’s fight. Toward Lilith.

She’d expected it.

Her shadows t them halfway.

The first three hit her wall of darkness and stuck there, like flies on webbing. Their bodies convulsed once, twice, then went limp. Lilith didn’t even look at them. Her eyes were on the others, tracking movent, calculating angles.

"Daniel," she said.

"Already on it."

He appeared behind the fourth adversary, his hand already inside its chest. The creature’s eyes went wide, then dim. Daniel pulled his arm free, steam rising from his fingers, and grinned at the next one. "Who’s next?"

Ruka moved like water. No wasted motion. His blade found the fifth adversary’s throat before it could scream, then he was already turning, already cutting, already gone.

The sixth and seventh tried to flank Lilith from both sides.

Ken and Angel caught them.

Ken’s claws tore through armor like paper. He grabbed the adversary by its horned head and slamd it into the ground, once, twice, three tis, until the rubble stopped moving. Angel burned hers from the inside out, flas pouring through every gap in its defenses until nothing remained but ash and the sll of scorched bone.

Mob stood in front of Lilith like a statue. An adversary tried to go through him. It didn’t work. He caught its fist, crushed it, then headbutted the creature so hard its skull caved in.

Dera was everywhere. Knives flashed. Arteries opened. Adversaries fell to their knees, clutching wounds that wouldn’t close.

Remu’s chains bound two more, dragging them to the ground where Vina and Rey waited. Vina’s claws made short work of the first. Rey’s shadow swallowed the second.

The lead adversary watched its forces crumble and scread in frustration. "This isn’t possible! They’re just—"

"Just what?" Lilith appeared in front of it. Not moved. Appeared. "Mortals? Vampires? Demons?"

She grabbed its throat.

"Call off the rest," she said quietly. "Or I’ll make you watch while I kill every single one of them."

The lead adversary’s eyes flickered to the battlefield. Only four of its original twelve remained standing. The others were dead or dying.

"Retreat," it whispered.

The remaining adversaries didn’t need to be told twice. They vanished into portals, into shadows, into the cracks between worlds.

The lead adversary tried to follow.

Lilith’s grip tightened.

"Not you."

It froze.

"You’re going to deliver a ssage for ," Lilith said. "To whoever sent you. To the other adversaries. To anyone who thinks they can use this chaos to their advantage."

She pulled the creature close, until her lips were nearly touching its ear.

"Lucifer is mine. Touch him again, and I will personally hunt every last one of you to the ends of existence."

She released it.

The lead adversary staggered back, clutching its throat, then fled.

The battlefield fell silent.

Lilith stood among the bodies, her dress unmarked, her breathing steady. She looked at the group around her—Ken and Angel, Mob and Dera, Remu and Vina and Rey, Daniel and Ruka—and nodded once.

"Well done."

Daniel snorted. "High praise from the Queen of Demons."

Lilith’s lips twitched. "Don’t let it go to your head."

---

Across the plaza, Lucifer and Adam circled each other.

Neither had thrown a punch yet. Neither had spoken since the sky went dark.

They were asuring. Testing. Waiting.

Adam’s wings were fully extended now, each crystalline feather humming with energy. The light around him had shifted from gold to white, so bright it hurt to look at.

Lucifer’s shadows had done the opposite. They’d grown darker, denser, swallowing the light around him until he was little more than a silhouette with burning red eyes.

"You’ve changed," Adam said.

"You haven’t," Lucifer replied.

Adam’s smile returned. "Is that an insult?"

"It’s an observation."

Adam moved.

Not fast. Not slow. Just—differently. Like he was stepping between fras of reality.

Lucifer t him.

Their fists collided.

The shockwave flattened everything within a hundred ters. Rubble turned to dust. Bodies turned to mist. The ground beneath them cracked and sank.

They held there, fist against fist, neither giving ground.

"You’re stronger," Adam admitted. "But strength isn’t enough."

"It’s a start."

Lucifer twisted, breaking the lock, and drove his knee into Adam’s stomach. Adam folded, then recovered, slamming his elbow into Lucifer’s spine.

Lucifer staggered.

Adam pressed the advantage, striking twice, three tis, four—each blow landing with the force of a collapsing building.

Lucifer took them all.

Then he caught the fifth.

Adam’s eyes widened.

"My turn."

Lucifer pulled Adam close and headbutted him.

The impact shattered the air. Adam’s nose broke. Blood—golden, glowing—sprayed across both their faces.

Adam stumbled back, hand pressed to his face, staring at the blood on his fingers.

"You..." His voice was quiet. Shocked. "You made bleed."

Lucifer wiped Adam’s blood from his forehead.

"Get used to it."

---

Lilith watched from across the plaza, her heart pounding.

She wanted to help. Every instinct scread at her to join the fight, to tear Adam apart herself, to end this once and for all.

But she didn’t.

This wasn’t her battle.

She glanced at the sky. The other Progenitors were still watching. She could feel their attention like weights on her shoulders.

"Co on," she muttered. "Do sothing."

The sky didn’t answer.

But the ground did.

A fissure opened behind her—not from the fight, but from sothing else. Sothing deeper.

From that fissure, a figure erged.

Tall. Ancient. Covered in scales that glead like molten bronze.

The Dragon Progenitor.

Lilith’s eyes narrowed. "Took you long enough."

The Dragon’s voice rumbled like distant thunder. "We were... debating."

"About what?"

"Whether to intervene."

"And?"

The Dragon looked at the fight. Adam had recovered, his broken nose already healed, his golden blood drying on his robes. He was pressing Lucifer back now, wings lashing like whips, light exploding from his palms.

Lucifer was holding. Barely.

"He’s impressive," the Dragon said.

"He’s my son."

"I know." The Dragon’s gaze shifted to Lilith. "That’s why we’re here."

More fissures opened. More figures erged.

The Witch Progenitor, shrouded in mist and shadow.

The Shadow Progenitor, a walking void.

Others. Older ones. Faces Lilith hadn’t seen in millennia.

They ford a loose circle around the battlefield, watching, waiting.

Lilith looked at them, then back at her son.

"Don’t interfere," she said.

The Witch raised an eyebrow. "You called us."

"I called you to watch. Not to act."

The Shadow spoke, its voice echoing from everywhere and nowhere. "And if he falls?"

Lilith’s jaw tightened.

"He won’t."

---

Lucifer was losing.

Not badly. Not obviously. But he could feel it—the difference between them. Adam had been doing this longer. Had been fighting longer. Had been surviving longer.

Experience mattered.

Lucifer ducked under a blast of light, rolled, ca up swinging. His shadows caught Adam’s wing, pulled, tore.

Adam hissed and spun, his other wing catching Lucifer across the chest.

Lucifer flew backward, hit a wall, crashed through it, hit another, finally stopped in a heap of rubble and dust.

He pushed himself up.

His ribs were cracked. His arm was bleeding. His vision was blurred.

But he was smiling.

"That all you got?" he called out.

Adam landed in front of him, wings spread, light blazing.

"You’re stalling."

Lucifer’s smile widened. "Maybe."

He glanced past Adam, toward the circle of Progenitors.

"Them. They’re why you’re holding back, aren’t you?"

Adam’s expression flickered.

"You don’t want them to see you go all out. You don’t want them to know what you’re really capable of."

Adam’s jaw tightened.

Lucifer laughed—short, bitter, blood on his teeth.

"You’re still afraid. Even now. Even after everything."

Adam’s hand shot out, grabbing Lucifer by the throat.

"I’m not afraid of anything."

Lucifer’s shadows surged, wrapping around Adam’s arm, crawling up toward his face.

"Then prove it."

Adam squeezed.

Lucifer’s vision went dark.

And then—

The Dragon Progenitor took a step forward.

Lilith’s hand shot out, stopping him.

"Wait."

"He’s dying."

"No." Lilith’s eyes were fixed on her son. "He’s not."

Adam’s grip tightened.

Lucifer’s body went limp.

And then—

His eyes snapped open.

They weren’t red anymore.

They were black.

Void-black.

The kind of black that swallowed light.

Adam tried to pull his hand back.

He couldn’t.

Lucifer’s shadows had him.

"Now," Lucifer whispered, "we fight."
