Mayeux knew that sotis, Aeryon subordinate like to think too much and scared themselves silly thinking that their actions displeases or pleases the Kan

Sotis, Aeryon does thing that do have deeper anings.

For a mont there is tense silence around them. There is no guards here in the pavilion and all the warriors leave this area

One might think that considering what happened the last ti Aeryon was in a pavilion, they would not do such a thing again like letting the Kan to be unsupervised.

But none of the warriors is worried that Mayeux would do sothing to the Kan.

It is not because they believe in Mayeux loyalty or trusted Mayeux.

It is because they know that Mayeux could never overpowered the Kan

Mayeux is known in the tribes as the Kan right hand man, and he is the one coordinating the rear each ti the tribe went to war.

Without his ability to maintain supplies and to direct supply corps to supply the army, to coordinate forces that might otherwise be confused and to maintain the morale of the people, all of it is not inseparable to Mayeux

But if there is sothing he is not known for it would be the fact that Mayeux is not a strong fighter.

At least compared to the many great fighters in the tribe, Mayeux pale in comparison.

He might not be weak, but he is also not excellent in the act of fighting when compared to the many great warriors that had erges these past few years

And compared to Aeryon who has the feat of defeating hundreds of n alone, breaking through the formation to take the head of the enemy leader, Mayeux force compared to Aeryon is pitifully scant

And since that is the case, no one is worried anything would happen.

And it does not make sense for Mayeux to throw all of his life away.

It was unlike what happen with Ayera.

Mayeux face hardened. There is another silence between these two friends.

He sighed. They were the only two people in this area. The sigh is not loud, but because of the silence, it seems louder than intended.

Aeryon heard it. And he just close his eyes. This silence seems to last for a long ti but only a few second had passed

And then Mayeux said

"Aeryon, do you think I did it for myself?" Mayeux did not intend to pretend to be an idiot right now.

Aeryon is still not looking at Mayeux.

Instead, he look toward a small bird flying in the sky, seemingly unconcerned about what Mayeux would answer with

"I believe in you. But she is pitiful enough. There is no need to do anything more." Aeryon paused for a mont sighed and then added

"You have done enough already. Isn’t it enough that she had lost her father?"

"This is too much benevolence. I’m doing it for you" Mayeux said.

Aeryon nodded

"I know. And it is enough. There is no need to kill my wife. My way is different." Mayeux hearing this frowned

This is the Kan weakness. Mayeux thought to himself. Compared to Dama, the person that his disciple chooses, Aeryon is great in all kinds of things

He could accept advices; he could endure and he knows when to advance and when to retreat.

He is also quite educated and has a wide view of certain things. But if there is one thing that Aeryon should learn from Dama, it was his ruthlessness

The mont Aeryon said it is not his way, Mayeux feel his heart fell down.

Aeryon has always been reluctant to use heavy punishnt. But he did it anyway. However, Mayeux knew, if Aeryon could have his way, heavy punishnt would not be used.

Aeryon is more like those scholars that lives in peaceful empire then a warrior of the Steppe sotis.

"Then do you want to kill ?" Mayeux ask

"Why say such hurtful words?" But Mayeux only smirks and sneer at Aeryon words

"Leaving Ayera alive, isn’t that leaving a knife that is pointing right towards ? It is as good as trying to kill "

For the first ti Aeryon stop looking at the distant sky. He sighed

He wanted to ask; this would not have happened if Mayeux did not sche to kill Garron. But then one would return to the original questioning. Mayeux did it for him.

Garron is a problem. A problem because Mayeux wanted him to have the sole voice in the tribe

And he is very wary of the Viper. Whether that wariness ifs warranted is a different story, but Mayeux whatever his faults, he truly was loyal to him

And Aeryon would not make it a habit to punish those who are loyal to him.

Instead, he turns toward Mayeux, his eyes sharp

"I’m here. And as long as I am here, you would be alive"

"And what would happen after you die?"

For a mont Aeryon paused and then shakes his head

"I could only trust in ti"

"That ti would solve this knot that would tie you to death. I’m here to ask you to trust "

"It is not that I don’t know what you have done for "

"You have done a lot for . I.... could understand why you did what you did. And I know you know I would not approve it. But you want to do it for because you wanted to remove her and remove this flaw and weakness. But..." he paused for a second and then added

Mayeux look at Aeryon and he did not know what to feel right now.

Aeryon has afforded him more leniency than any ministers in history would have ever bene ever afforded to have

Mayeux knew what he did. He did not only sche to kill Aeryon father-in-law, he also sche to kill Aeryon wife.

Aeryon did not punish him. But only give him advice.

The reason why these two did not break down because they both trust each other

Aeryon and Mayeux is two people who is united to gain the sa thing.

No, it is not quite accurate to say that they want the sa thing.

But the things they want could only be attained by relying on each other.

The journey is long and there is still so many difficulties, and in such a perilous road, it would be too lonely not to have any friends accompanying you, walking that road

They are a people that is walking on the sa road. The destination is different but the road is the sa

Hence, there is this understanding between them that transcend their position.

Aeryon knew with all of his heart, Mayeux did not do it to spite him, or to challenge his authority but simply because he felt that Ayera is a danger to their dream

And precisely because Aeryon knows this he did not do anything to Mayeux.

He felt sorry for Garron, but he had done his best.

In the end, even though they do share connection, Garron is not Belarion. And at least Garron dies a warrior’s death.

As for Ayera, he managed to stop thing before things beco worse. So, he could speak today to Mayeux.

To remind him that this is enough

This is an order.

And Aeryon knows, now that he had made it clear, Mayeux would at least think of his words today before doing this kind of thing again.

As for whether he would defy it, Aeryon just need to dismantle it. But Aeryon believe Mayeux would know the importance and would not do anything for the ti being.

At least, Mayeux would look at his face.

There has always been this kind of understanding between them

Aeryon knew about his action against Garron.

Aeryon feeling for Garron was not fake.

If it was fake, he would not have gone there and even contemplated of attacking Ogura and taking over Utgard breaking the established plans that they have crafted.

But at the sa ti, Aeryon heart towards Mayeux was also not a lie. Aeryon was sincere towards him.

And he understood why he did what he did.
