Caesar opened her mouth, about to say sothing, but just then, heavy footsteps echoed from behind them.
They turned toward the sound and saw a tall, imposing figure slowly clapping, with a faint hint of appreciation in his eyes.
It was a middle-aged man with sharp eyes, dressed in a black jacket. A handlebar mustache frad his face, and though his hair and beard were streaked with gray, it did nothing to diminish his overwhelming presence.
Lucy's eyes widened in recognition. And not just hers—anyone in the Outer Ring would know that face.
"Overlord Pompey?!"
"Long ti no see, Caesar of the Sons of Calydon. To think that the little girl who once stood beside Big Daddy can now lead her people to challenge ."
Pompey didn't spare Lucy a glance, despite her calling him out first. Instead, he addressed Caesar directly, as if she were the only one worth speaking to.
That alone was enough to irritate Lucy. She stepped forward without hesitation, her gaze sharp and unyielding.
"Overlord Pompey, if the Sons of Calydon are still expected to acknowledge you as the alliance leader, then you'd better explain exactly why you're here!"
Pompey showed no reaction to her hostility. His voice remained calm, almost indifferent.
"No need to rush. That can be discussed later. There's sothing more important to settle first."
His eyes shifted back to Caesar, his tone growing heavier.
"Caesar, these goods were ant for Blazewood. The Vanquishers promised their delivery. Are you going to let the mayor take them?"
"Pompey, don't push your luck!" Lucy clenched her fists, anger rising at his indifferent attitude.
She was about to continue, but Caesar, standing beside her, spoke first, stopping her.
"Lucy, wait. I heard everything you and Kasa argued about earlier... These supplies, no matter their origin, are what the town needs right now. It's just..."
Her voice faltered. Caesar slowly closed her eyes, a flicker of pain crossing her face before she spoke again.
"Kasa, if you were struggling, why didn't you co to us? Haven't we stood together all these years?"
Even now, she couldn't bring herself to believe it.
The thought that Kasa, soone she had always seen as an older sister, would betray them, work with the Overlord's faction, and leak information about the Sons of Calydon... it didn't sit right with her.
Silence lingered for a mont before Kasa finally spoke. Her voice was steady, but there was sothing heavy beneath it.
"I didn't want to drag you into this. The Tour de Inferno is already demanding enough. The Sons of Calydon have done more than enough for Blazewood over the years. At a ti like this, how could we repay you by becoming another burden?"
"Repay us?" Lucy let out a cold laugh. "By selling our information to the Vanquishers? That's your idea of repaynt?"
Kasa froze, clearly caught off guard.
"Selling information? Wait, Lucy, that's not true! I've never done anything to betray you. I only made a trade with the Vanquishers, exchanging our handicrafts for supplies!"
"She's telling the truth," Pompey spoke up just as Kasa finished, giving a small nod in confirmation. "Blazewood may stand with you, but as the Overlord, I can't ignore the needs of the people in this region. So I allowed this arrangent."
He shifted his attention back to Caesar.
"Kasa also ntioned that she didn't want you to see the Vanquishers nearby and jump to the wrong conclusion. That's why she requested to move the trade into the Hollow. I saw no issue with it. After all, there's no need to disrupt the alliance over a misunderstanding."
Wise remained silent, his brows slightly furrowed as he processed everything.
Neither Kasa nor Pompey showed any signs of lying. If anything, their explanations fit too well.
If that were truly the case, then this Overlord was not only powerful but also possessed a rare sense of magnanimity.
Even though he thought that, he didn't voice it. He wasn't the leader of the Sons of Calydon's husband yet, so it wasn't his place to speak freely.
"So you're saying the leak about our whereabouts had nothing to do with you?" Lucy asked, her voice sharp with suspicion.
"Young lady, it's good not to be easily intimidated, but being overly aggressive won't get you far," Pompey replied calmly, his expression steady.
"Gentlen, I ca here to resolve this issue. Earlier today, I found this among the handicrafts delivered to us by Blazewood," he added, pulling a small component out of a tinderbox.
Hidden within the handmade item was an electronic chip.
"This is… a wiretap?!" Lucy recognized it instantly.
Pompey held the chip between his fingers and turned his gaze toward Mors. He questioned him about where the device had co from, then brought up the missing supplies ant for Blazewood.
At that mont, everyone understood the situation. Pompey's voice thundered with anger.
"Mors! I brought you to the Tour de Inferno—not for you to resort to such disgraceful tricks!"
Pompey was a man who lived by his principles. Knowing there was no use denying it, Mors lowered his head, admitted his mistake, and accepted whatever punishnt would co.
Pompey continued to reprimand him for a while, but in the end, he didn't place all the bla on Mors alone. Instead, he admitted that his own lack of discipline among his subordinates had led to this.
After dealing with that, Pompey turned his attention back to the Sons of Calydon.
To make ands, he first promised to help Blazewood rebuild its oil pipeline. Then, he offered them control over three of the five new cargo routes he had recently established with other regions, for a duration of six months.
Lucy narrowed her eyes slightly. She imdiately understood the value of those routes. Still, the offer felt too generous.
Pompey explained that he had heard about the Sons of Calydon repeatedly drawing unfavorable routes in past lotteries. Even if it had been re coincidence, he believed compensation was deserved.
Of course, that wasn't the only reason.
The new routes, while profitable, passed through dangerous territories that required experienced riders to navigate them safely.
Naturally, there were conditions.
During those six months, the Sons of Calydon would be required to assist struggling settlents in three regions without charging any fees.
Any group that used those routes afterward would also be bound by the sa rule.
"Hey, Lucy, what do you think? Are his terms really that good?" Caesar leaned slightly closer as she asked, her tone lighter now that she knew Kasa hadn't betrayed her.
"...If everything he said is true, then yes. It would resolve our ongoing issues with Blazewood in one move. And with more routes available, other motorcycle gangs would also see a noticeable rise in inco."
Lucy's response made Caesar nod. Then she stepped forward, her usual confident smile returning as she faced Pompey.
"Hey, old man, I'll admit your offer sounds good. But you're forgetting one thing: it hasn't been decided yet who the Overlord will be or who gets to distribute those routes. If I take that position, I'll make sure things are handled even more fairly than you would."
Pompey paused for a mont, then his tense expression eased into a smile of approval.
"Haha, such confidence! Very well, I'll take that as your answer."
With that, the agreent was settled. Pompey handed Caesar a letter of commitnt he had already prepared.
Afterward, the two sides parted ways, agreeing to et again at the Tour de Inferno arena.
